    No Directivo until 2010

Honestly, the way some people go on and on about TiVo, you'd think it cured AIDS. And I've been doing DVR for 8 and a half years. TiVo's a fine platform, but as you say, it's not the only one. And you don't get programming from TiVo, though I would say the ideal situation is if you can get all...

no new HD channels today :(

Happy Birthday. Here's hoping you get some cheese to go with your whine. Me, I'm too busy enjoying the MLBEI freeview in HD, plus the Basketball tonight. Enjoy what you got before it's taken away.

About to switch to D* from E*, but have some doubts. Convince me!

*ding* WINNER! IMO one should pick their multichannel provider based on the programming choices offered NOW, not what they might offer in the future. Do your research, make your decision, and then don't fret it. If a newer/better provider emerges in the future, then reconsider.

Here's hoping Life On Mars gets added.

    Price increase during a RECESSION?

Put up an antenna, Tony, or go free-to-air. Problem solved. People b*tch, but don't take action.

    No DVR for XM anymore?

It's my understanding that the R15 was capable of recording X-M as well.

D* has picked the ball back up. IE: Nascar hotpass

But, people reamed him while he was in charge! Not me, I was thrilled to have someone with a Network affiliation in charge. We were warned about how it wouldn't improve with Malone in the driver's seat and it's true. I hate to say it, but I wish he would see to AT&T.

DirecTV price increases coming in March

I have to say when I saw that hike and, as you mention, no HD feed, which I would gladly pay $2.50/mo. for now that my local PBS has dropped the national feed on their primary digital channel, but I'm not paying $2.50/mo. for a SD feed only. I wouldn't do it for any of the other Distant Nets I...

Will I lose one set of distant nets if I go HD?

It's been my experience that you will only get a one coast feed for HD Distant Networks, depending on which side of the Mississippi you happen to be on, but I was allowed to keep both Coast feeds for SD.

    too good to be true?

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that when I read. Then again, it's TiVo doing it so it must be better!

    HR20 to HR22/23

You might want to try again at the end of the week. Sometimes it's just a matter of playing CSR roulette. I was able to get an HR21 for $99 in early Oct., but it had been ~ 2 years after picking up a HR20.

Best HDMI cables for DTV HD receivers

Every time someone buys a Monster product, a Monster exec puts their kid through Harvard. Monoprice all the way!

    Was this a legitimate offer?

Offer is/was legit and I bit. Been thinking about upgrading for awhile and that offer made it worth my while.

Why should I switch to Directv?

    Nicely summed up. :up

    Local channels for Binghamton, NY

I talked with someone from one of the local broadcasters, Elmira, and was told when DIRECTV did a site survey on the prospect of locals that redundancy, a fiber-optic feed to back up the antenna broadcast, was the sticking point. It's not something they can afford. I really don't want locals...

DIRECTV and TiVo to Launch New HD DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Service

Clearly you never experienced 3.x on the HR10-250. You could have lunch just waiting for confirmation after scheduling a recording from the Guide. With the HR20-700, I just push the Record button while viewing the Guide on the show I want to record. Done! Why does TiVo make it major thing...

Hope for a Tivo-DIRECTV HD DVR?

And not everyone worships at the TiVo Altar. The folks who restrict themselves to one DVR platform are DVR-tarded, IMO.

Hope for a Tivo-DIRECTV HD DVR?

Tru dat. I'd have to believe that the vast majority of folks with HD for whom TiVo is the only answer, can't really understand that personally, have already made the migration to Cable or FIOS, if they're fortunate. I prefer the HR20 to the HR10 myself and never really cared for TiVo...

    One more day to go

It was when they deployed the MPEG 4 National HD channels last year. It made you look forward to what each Wednesday would bring. Much smarter than the approach DISH Network uses where they dump all the new HD in one day...then take away 15 Voom channels overnight. ;)

Is there a way to record without a DVR?

He found the money for HD, it's not all that much extra for DVR.

Is there a way to record without a DVR?

DVR charges for DIRECTV are $5.99/mo. for all DVRs on your account and you can sub to a package that includes that charge for either SD or HD packages. Why would you not do that? VCR is so 80s.

    TiVo trouble

Yeah, if it's not making it past the "Welcome. Powering Up..." screen, then I believe it's not booting past the PROM. If it were making it to the hard drive in the boot process and the image were corrupt, you'd see a reboot loop, where you'd see a black screen, then "Powering Up...", then the...
