DirecTV has crazy retention deals right now

Lots of truth here. Called for my Pops. His bill had crept up to $148 a month. The first person I called was uninterested in helping. So I called back and made sure I selected the "disconnect my service" options in the IVR. Rep I talked to on that call asked a few questions and said "How...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

It doesn't get much worse than AT&T, Jimbo. Not too worried about the company I move to. OTA doesn't work like that. :) It astounds me the number of folks here who are for this deal. Are you just blind to AT&T's ways? Or do you just not care...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

I am a customer and I am very worried. Well, worried that I'll have to get off my rear and finally mount that outdoor antenna. I refuse to do any business what so ever with that pathetic excuse of a company. The market is saturated. Everyone that wants satellite service has it (much like the...

Using DECA for "other" network activites

Joseph -> I'm using the built-in DECA on the HR-24 at the moment. I was thinking something along the lines of getting another CCK, splitting the coax at the HR-24. Feed one side to the HR-24, the other to the CCK-jobbie. Then from there to the Denon (which has a 4 port hub on-board, FWIW)...

Using DECA for "other" network activites

I don't want to use a wireless bridge. And pulling ethernet is out of the question.

Using DECA for "other" network activites

Hi all. I've got an idea and I'd like to run it past you to see if it'll work. I've got the hard wired CCK and it's working great. All of my receivers can get to the internet and all is peachy-keen. Recently, I bought a shiny new Denon receiver and it sits next to one of the HR24's. Is...

    Who got the technology first?

I guess if you really want to split hairs. I left in mid-to-late 2002. Did some research - this is the oldest thing I could find: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/DIRECTV+to+Launch+New+High-Definition+Package%3B+New+HD+Package+will...-a0102714896 In it, someone from DTV said they started HD...

    Who got the technology first?

Nooooooooo they did not (at least for DirecTV). I was a DirecTV customer from 1997 until 2002 when I bought my 64" RPTV HD set. DirecTV had no HD offerings at the time. At least not for the general public. A call from the regional manager where I bought my TV to Time Warner got me hooked up...

    HD Extra Pack confusion...

Thanks for the tip, guys. Was able to drop it, and re-add in the same web session.

Reset an HR21-700 HD DVR w/external HD and all recordings are now gone.

My understanding is that if you push the red button your encryption keys get reset. So, while your recordings are still on the external media, the keys used to lock them up are no longer valid. In short, your recordings are gone.

Coming up on 15 hours of downtime now for the Charlotte locals (except 42, 55, and 58). A bit annoying and screwing up my recordings.

    HR34 Existing Customer Discounts

I called on Friday and the best they would do was $199 + professional install. Considering that I own a Super Buddy 29 to align my own dish, I'm not paying a pro install to unplug and replug 3 cables, so I declined.

suggestions new customer whole home / wait for hr34?

All of the stations in the Charlotte, NC market are available in HD. WCNC (NBC, 36) has 1 of its sub channels available as does WUNG (PBS, 58).

Oh NO! My external hard drive failed! What to do now? (report)

That's the beauty of a RAID array, Jimbo. The DVR will never see the "blank" drive. The RAID array will never present that drive to the DVR alone. It will present the array. There are two options. Plug the new drive in, power up the array and allow it to rebuild and do not turn on the DVR...

Oh NO! My external hard drive failed! What to do now? (report)

Well, it did some time ago. I had a Seagate 1.5TB drive attached to a HR24. I should have known. Playback was painful. A lot of artifacting and playback stopping. Then, when live TV started to become a problem, I knew I was really in trouble. Fast forward about a week and come home to find...

Improper time shown in DVR program list

Not to sound snarky, but the system time is correct and shows that are recorded now display the correct recorded time in the list. Wouldn't changing that make the time wrong? Just checked it - the TZ and DST options are set to auto and DST is set to Yes.

The time has arrived, R.I.P Directv

Glad to see you at least got the 8300's. Hopefully you didn't get stuck with the 8300 with a cable card. I started with SciATL in 2002 with an HD box. That progressed up to an 8300, then I tried out Time Warner's Signature home. I wish I hadn't. The 8300 is a good box. For the most part...

Iceberg-->That is correct. Anything prior to time change last October is off by one hour. All shows recorded after time change in October are currently showing the correct time recorded.

Improper time shown in DVR program list

I was scrolling through some of my recorded shows recently and noticed that all of the shows recorded prior to DST are an hour off. For example, if Bones was aired at say, 8pm, it shows up that it was recorded at 7pm prior to DST. All shows recorded after DST kicked in currently show the...
