I am seriously considering switching to direct tv from DISH. I was in Sams Club yesterday and they had some good promos (Free NFL package, $300 gift card, $65 locked in for 2 yrs if an ATT subscriber) but was wondering what I will lose with the DVR they will supply. I know I will lose the hopper...
I am trying to install a dish (direct tv) at my cottage in the woods. Lots of trees. I had it running 2 yrs ago with a signal 60s-80 ish and it worked most of the time. Now I cant get a signal 2 yrs later. Trees taller? Bad LNB? (do they go bad?) bad aim? Im trying to find out what sat. I'm...
So I should use the lowest transponder signal to tweak but not 4,12,18,20, 26, or 28? Why are those transponders special? I ordered a signal meter as well, I 'll keep tweeking. Thanks guys. BP
At my cottage ,I am trying to point my dish but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I dont get a great signal 66-73 ish but it usually works but not always. My question is when i was pointing it at 101, it showed 32 transponders with a signal strength for each. Should I be concentrating...
Guys this is for a remote cabin and there is no electric box or wire or anything. Its a grounding rod or nothing. Should it be closer to the dish or the reciever? also what gauge copper wire? Thanks much.
I am putting a copper 5/8" grounding rod in for my new install and was wondering how deep in the ground it should be and how far away from the dish is acceptable? Thanks BP
OK thanks so Ive got it narrowed down to just taking the existing reciever with me or buying a used reciever and getting direct tv to activate it and paying the $5 mo. fee. Any idea how much they charge for a smart card and how to tell if the used reciever is owned or leased by the seller?
couldnt I call them and get a new box thru them and pay $5/mo.? What if I wanted to shut the new one off in winter though and start again in spring, would I have to give them their box back? Im not sure what to do so I dont have to screw around hooking up a box every time I go up there. Anyone?
If I buy a used direct tv sat box, what happens? Does D tv have to activate it to my account? Can I swap my existing card to the new one? Will D tv charge me a $5 fee per month to have another activated reciever? Can I keep my leased reciever while owning a used one? Im trying to get another to...
OK heres an update. I hooked up the 18" round dish at the cottage and I finally got it to work.
Had 1 opening left between the trees and it worked! Got the 101 sat with tons of channels but no locals. It wouldnt tune the NYC locals I think because I get my locals home in Rochester, NY. I guess...
OK thanks. I have 1 more question. When I go to setup mode (Where it asked you what kind of dish (I put in 18" round) , the "switch type" is grayed out to "multiswitch" What do I do there? I cant change it and I dont think I have a multi switch since its 1 lnb and 1 reciever. Will that be ok...
I know its not technically right but can I combine a rg59 wire to a rg6 wire and will it work? Is the rg6 wire fatter than a rg59? Thanks
P.S You guys are the best.
Where can I find what satellites are available at that zip code (13679) and how do I know which one to shoot at? Or which one has the most channels? Im not really fussy there with locals, etc, just want a bunch of channels. (using a generator for juice, so whatever I get is a bonus). Thanks
OK thanks guys, I will work on it.
What is the name of the switch that will combine the 2 lnb wires into 1 so I can run it to the reciever?
Or can I only use 1 of the 2 wires?
I have a direct tv account at home with 2 recievers, 1 HD pvr and 1 regular sd reciever. We have a cottage 150 miles away. Am I allowed to put up a dish at the cottage and take the sd reciever back and forth? (I know I will have to setup in each place) Will the reciever work and is D tv ok with...
Cottage is 150 miles from home. Looks like the 101 gets most of the sd channels except locals. Will locals even work at 150 miles away even with the right dish?
I have an old round dish RCA with 1 LNB that Im trying to use at our cottage. First Im trying to get it to work in Rochester, NY. Can anyone tell me what the number is of the satellite Im trying to tune for Direct TV? Does 101 sound right? Thanks
Can I do that? Leave an old dish at the...
