Why does it take sooo much time to "rebuild" US NAVY website?

In MN we had the MNLARS fiasco. Statewide vehicle licensing system cobbled together by government codesmiths that failed miserably and cost hundreds of millions to be properly done by pros. The problem, IMHO, was the govt coders were probably hot stuff a decade ago, but existing 10 years out of...

Yeah, I sure remember the day G4 died

Almost every pager (remember them?) in the country quit working because most of their towers had a Ku dish pointing at G4 for a data feed. I was a retread going to radio school at the time and a C band satellite FTA watcher. We also lost our early Star Trek feeds ( 3 days before air time :)...

    Introducing the Amiko Mini HD265

Got mine yesterday - Liking it. Using it for my C band receiver and noticed it found more channels than the MicroHD it replaced. Part of the cardboard box the unit came in makes a great blinder for the other Amiko receiver ;) I toyed with the idea of using polarizing filters to keep the two...

    Introducing the Amiko Mini HD265

I've ordered the new receiver, but I am wondering if I will have trouble with remote control confusion when I place it in the same area as my other Amiko sat receiver?

    Amiko Mini HD RE EOL

Sounds like it will likely be good news. If it passes muster with KE4EST, I think it might make a good addition here. Mike

Flight Data Recorder for my dish

Injecting diseqc is a whole different matter. The decoder uses a simple zero crossing detector to "see" the diseqc signals and the rs-232 is output only. It would be a complete redesign to generate the signals. Mike N0QBH

    An odd quality "thing"

Been coding for another project that uses FEC and have had to learn a little about it. The fraction or ratio is the the number of bits in over the number of bits out of the FEC encoder. The larger the difference, the more error correction capacity. The smaller the difference, the more...

    SG-9120B repair

My year old SG9120B dish mover quit moving to the west earlier this winter, so I replaced it with a DG-380. Put the non working mover on the bench to try figure out what went wrong, here's what I found. The relay K2 was inoperative. It's driver transistor Q2 and protection diode D4 were also...

    Looking for ideas and input

One of the ingenious things I remember about them was the way they got around a frozen shaft when the wind doesn't blow. They had it pass through a greased sleeve where it entered the water. As long as the ice didn't freeze deeper than the sleeve, when the wind returned it would start turning...

    Looking for ideas and input

You ever see those wind powered pond stirring units that would sit on floats with a vertical shaft running a propeller? They had vertical vanes to catch the wind that looked like a narrow barrels cut in half. Used to keep the ice open so livestock could drink. Back in the day they were called...
