Considering New FTA System Mainly for PBS

I have an extra 90 cm dish and what maybe a working lnb left over from the dual lnb GloryStar setup. I think I'll go for for a waist high location and try for 125W. My problem is too many trees so I'll have to search out a spot with a dip in the treetops to permit a line of sight to 125W. I am...

    NASA Eclipse 2017

Great video! I live near Rosman, NC in the path of totality but it began to cloud up about 30 minutes prior. My wife was ill but I put on the glasses and could see the disc through the clouds so I found a good spot on my drive and rolled my wife out in a wheelchair. The clouds parted enough so...

    Equipment Needed for 125W?

The AMC-21 footprint recommends a 130cm dish, would my 90cm dish be worth an effort, my location is western NC?

    Equipment Needed for 125W?

Can the 1200 be used for 125W or is it GS only?

    Equipment Needed for 125W?

I guess I had better wait and see how the MicroHD fairs with Glorystar before making any move.

    Equipment Needed for 125W?

Would the DVR-1100c work for dish aiming at 125W? It would be nice to know that I have reception before purchasing a new receiver. Because of tree profile I have to select a spot to set up the second dish.

    Equipment Needed for 125W?

I have the DVR-1100c with the original two lnb set-up for 97/101. I also have a second dish presently not connected. I would like to get PBS stations so am considering 125W, is any additional equipment required such as audio decoder?

    History and Bio US

One way of looking at it is that we view only because the door isn't locked, hackers go one step farther and pick the lock. Bottom line we are all uninvited on some channels.

    Building an external polorizer control

I didn't review the data but NASA tracked C-band polarization changes due to Faraday rotation for the ATS series of satellites. The antenna was an 85' dish on an XY mount. Because of the XY mount polarization tracking was necessary. The experiment made use of the polarization tracking to follow...

    Can't Find 123W

I tend to read more into things than intended. The DVR-1100c advanced hobbyist feature is not to to add features it is to prevent the advanced user from being locked into the Glorystar mode. By trimming some nearby limbs that I thought not to be a problem I got a better view of the gap in the...

    Stick on rulers

That's a great idea! I scanned a mm rule pasted it as a graphic then stretched it to match my circumference so that I had a degree scale to use for hour angle on my "poor man's polar mount". However, being paper it's not very durable so I can't leave it on the mount. I also ask, where do you...

    Can't Find 123W

G18 is in the receiver 's satellite list so I assume the TP list is up to date. The manual appears to be Glorystar only and does not address the advanced hobbyist mode. I think I recall that exercising a factory default will get me back to a screen that will give the option of selecting the...

    Can't Find 123W

I have a DVR-1100c operating in the Glorystar mode, I can't find a screen that offers the Advanced hobbyist Mode. I have a 4x1 switch and a second dish for G18. AMC2/4 is on port 1, G19 is on port 2 and G18 on port 3. I can't find anything for G18, but surfing through the satellite list a signal...

    Replacing 2x1 Switch With 4x1

Thanks Bob, that's the info I needed. I'll try the switch before I move the dish so I don't have too many unknowns.

    Replacing 2x1 Switch With 4x1

I don't have the installation in place yet, still placing posts in concrete. But I wanted to be ready so that I am not asking questions when I need to be peaking dishes. I have only one receiver, that's someone else with three. Do I just leave settings for AMC 2/4 and G 19 as is including...

    Replacing 2x1 Switch With 4x1

I am adding a second dish for G18 to a Glorystar DVR-1100c system. The 2x1 switch is a 22kHz switch what must I do to set up for operation of a 4x1 diseqc switch?

    Free Dish 500 Dishes (I have 2)

My old single lnb Dish antenna had the same bolt pattern as my GEOSATpro 90cm dish. Thinking that the 500 would have the same pattern I was on the lookout for one just to gain the bracket with the skew ring. Fortunately I got a close look at one and saw the tighter bolt pattern before making any...

Enter to win: Sadoun Heavy Duty DG380 HH Motor ($120 value)

I discovered FTA when SkyAngel stopped satellite operation. I found these forums via Google and decided to try the Glorystar package from Satellite AV. Now I am looking into installing a second dish and receiving other satellites.

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

I think I am beyond the confusion. The 45 degree crank of the J-tube solves the problem of my 10 degree minimum dish elevation. So my settings would be 38.2 for latitude and subtracting 5.64 for declination from the 45 degree crank I would set dish elevation to 39.36 degrees. Dish offset becomes...

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

I was musing over what to do with the J-tube from my defunct SkyAngel dish and this idea struck me. Picture the J-tube mounted to the post with a clamp (see illustration) that can be adjusted for polar angle plus be loosened for rotation. If the 45 degree crank is too much for my dish's el...

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

If I mount the dish upside down it appears that I will still have a problem, the beam would be 10 degrees below horizon with no range to elevate it.

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

My Geosat Pro 90cm dish mount won't go below 10 degrees elevation so I guess I'll turn the dish upside down to achieve the declination offset which is 5.64 for my latitude.

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

The extremes thread is a great one, if my earlier search had found it I wouldn't have asked my Az El vs Polar question a while back. All my questions seem to be answered except possibly whether it's best to compensate for my 24.62 degree dish offset at the polar axis angle or with the dish...

    Non-motorized Polar Mount?

Thanks, I have several ideas but rather than blundering into my own design it's much better to consider the successes of others.
