    LNB adjustment.

Isn't the distance of the LNB from the dish determined by where it hits the center of the dish and the target angle (22 deg.)? I may be off base here but if this is the optium placement, moving the lnb forward would have it aimed too low on the dish. I would think that would lower the...

The feed horn on the hughes lnb is oval but is wider than it is tall. The feed horn on the SuperDish is as you describe, oval but is taller than wide. So the hughes lnb should be mounted on its side, positioned like the SuperDish lnb for optimum performance? One other thing that I noticed...

The manger of our local "Recovery Park" (AKA 'The Dump') has been keeping an eye out for me in collecting old Satellite Dishes. While most of the things taken from the dump are legacy D* and E* dishes, I have had a few jems. Last spring someone brought in an old 121 SuperDish. I converted that...

    72W, 83W & 91W with SuperDish

You are correct...I meant to say FSS not DSS. FSS is linear. This weekend I had some time to experiment a bit further. I put a small pressure-treated wedge under the 72 LNB to place the skew to the proper angle. That threw off my horizontal spacing but after a little adjusting I was in...

    72W, 83W & 91W with SuperDish

Lately reception of the 72 satellite on my multi-LNB Superdish has been iffy. I get a signal strength in the mid 70's, but signal quality of low 60's on the MUX channels. This usually means no video or audio. I am wondering if my assumption of adjusting the dish skew is correct....setting...

Thanks. Yes, 83W is a tough one to get. It took me quite a while to find it also. Funny that it was so easy to pick up with my old Primestar dish. The 72W & 91W satellites were a snap with the SuperDish in comparison.

    72W, 83W & 91W with SuperDish

Last fall I picked up a discarded Superdish (121,119 & 110) at the dump. It works well enough for FTA, but does not give me as much signal strength as my Primestar dish. The good news is that I found it was relatively easy to add multiple LNBs to the arm. Through EBay I picked up 2 more...

Picking up RTV with SuperDish 121

I am using the DSS lnb that came with the Superdish 121. The Superdish 121 had a DSS lnb that was made for 121 and a DBS lnb for 119. The wave guides for these are molded together. The DSS lnb waveguide is offset (like a dog leg) and square, while the DBS lnb waveguide is straight and oval...

Picking up RTV with SuperDish 121

You are correct...and eureka!, as soon as I added TP 12865 H 4440 (as Larry1 suggested) the signal locked in. Didn't even have to re-adjust the dish. The signal level is only at 25% but the signal quality is 66% and the signal bars are green. RTV, Tuft and PBJE are now in. Thanks to all. So...

Picking up RTV with SuperDish 121

Okay, I thought of that...now if I understand bandstacking with the Superdish DSS lnb - I want to add 11735 + 700 or 12435 H. Is that correct? Still I am not sure how to add the SR of 4444. That does not seem to be an option for the Coolsat 5000.

Picking up RTV with SuperDish 121

Yes, I am treating it as bandstacked. That is why I only scanned H from 11700 to 12900. I set the skew to 102 (90 + 11.8) which is the recommended setting for 03226. Originally I pointed the dish with a cheapo Sat-Finder meter. Later I peaked the dish on the weakest TP by taking a small TV...

Picking up RTV with SuperDish 121

I am having trouble picking up RTV on AMC-9 @ 83 using an old SuperDish 121. From what I can tell, I am on AMC-9 because I can pick up a few wild feeds like colorbars from NBC in Charlotte, NC, a basketball game from the Sunbelt network and another basketball game from ESPN3. I also can pick...

    H & V transponders and Skew

Thanks for all your help. I am back in business again. The problem was due to a voltage drop...long run, old cable, multiple connectors, etc. But the real killer was my addition of a set of diplexers in the line. I had added those so that I could monitor the signal strength of individual...

    H & V transponders and Skew

Thanks, I will bet a voltage drop is the problem. I have a SAM3402 Multiswitch. It is probably at least 130 feet away maybe more. The run is pieced together in several places using old (salvaged) RG-6 cable. I guess I need to spring for some new coax.
