I have successfully set up an 8-footer, and works great. Except the ku side - can't get it to work! Any tips?

The way I got mine was by offering the removal service for free. Put a picture up on Craigslist saying something like "Do you have one of these you want to get rid of? I can take it out of your hands for free". lol I ended up receiving several "offers".

Yeah, they are right. I once took an 8-footer down, but its distance to the roof was much closer, so I was able to take it off the mast just from standing on the roof. Then I sawed the mast off.

Managed to detect signal at 55.5W, but so weak it's not watchable. It may be an aligment issue, or a LOS issue (some trees to the east, although leafless right now). Anyone out there getting this bird successfully around the 90's longitude? Anyway, at least now I know where I'm pointing at.

Friends, I’m having an issue on my newly installed 8-footer. I’m located at 93 W, and I have been scanning satellites in my LOS, being my western limit 135 W (run out of arm). To the east, I scanned 89 W, 87 W, 83 W, and then I get the “Err2” message. First I thought the dish was catching on...

That's right, oh! the joy of detecting the first signals and seeing the first image on the screen... priceless.

Yep, this is exactly like mine. So, the little plastic bar is the reed sensor, and those two wires are soldered to it, right? Thanks for the pics!

Yeah, Rat Shak is not carrying Reed Switches anymore. The ones I found at Mouser seem to be a good fit, size wise. The original one just says "SuperJack", and nothing else. Going to look at the site sponsors next.

The issue is that I don't see any evidence of them *ever* being soldered... which makes the question be: is there an alternative way to connect these wires?

Thanks for the pics, gabshere. Unfortunately, my little plastic piece does not have any terminals to solder the wires to. On your, though, does that piece mount in front of the magnetic wheel as is?
