Former A.B.A. Owners Ozzie and Daniel Silna Earn Millions From N.B.A.

I've known about this about 20+ years ago when I first read "Loose Balls," David Pluto's book about the ABA. Great read if you can get a copy, especially the stories about a young Bob Costas and his early days as a broadcaster. Very funny stuff.

Report: NBC Universal front-runner US EPL television rights

This soccer fan will not waste his time on the epl or any of those European leagues which have a handful of mega-teams and a bunch of also-rans. MLS may not match those leagues when it comes to player talent, but the competition is far more compelling.

Is Michael Phelps the greatest Olympian ever?

Phelps' achevements are mind-blowing. But, sports fans being sports fans, we sometimes need to throw some wood on the fire for the sake of argumentation. Yes, Phelps has 22 medals, but he got a lot of help with nine of them coming in relays. Latynina's medals, with the exception of three team...

    Sports Memorabilia

I like collecting programs and media guides. The most interesting one I have is an Eagles-Cardinals program from 1950.

How many baseball games have you been to this year?

I set a goal to see the Nats once a month this year. Went to DC in April and May, saw them in Baltimore in June. July isn't going to work out, but got plans to see three games in August. That makes six which equals one a month.

    CFL 2012 Season

It has been mentioned in the forums over at CFL.ca that there is (but not yet announced) a new US TV deal that would start with the second half of the season plus the playoffs and Grey Cup. Many think it will be with the NBC Sports Network, but that is just speculation.

    Stevenson

A great Olympic champion. Too often we get caught up with those athletes and their pursuit for multiple medals in a single Olympics (ie swimmers, gymnasts, and track stars) that we tend to ignore the great ones who can only win one and then have to maintain that standard of excellence for...

Do you miss the "old days" of the NFL?

I miss the old days when pro football was a game. Now it is (like everything else) packaged like a reality TV show. Do we need hours of pre-game hype? No. The half-hour shows in the 80s (NFL Today, NFL 81) did just fine. Do we need breathless announcers making every miniscule detail of the game...

Russian Jet Carrying Hockey Team Crashes

I read many years ago that our leagues do have contingencies in place should such a tragedy occur. In most cases they would have a draft of players from other teams in an attempt to get the team functional in a short period of time.

MLS is about to take over the NHL in average attendance

Wow, a soccer thread that runs for 19 pages. Some feathers must have really got ruffled. I'd take the time to read them all, but life is too short to care about what soccer-haters think.

    Women's 2011 FIFA World Cup(Soccer)

In fact half of the ten most watched World Cup matches on ABC/ESPN did not involve the US. Soccer bashers never let the truth get in the way of a good argument. They now have three years to come up with some fresh material.

    Women's 2011 FIFA World Cup(Soccer)

Nearly 13.5 millions people tuned in the Final on ESPN on Sunday. The game fared better in the ratings than the MLB All-Star Game, the Pro Bowl, and Game 3 of last year's World Series. While ratings for soccer in general in this country remain miniscule, the numbers for this game plus the more...

The NBA is in lockout? I guess I was too busy with the Women's World Cup to notice.

    Women's 2011 FIFA World Cup(Soccer)

I've watched every match thus far. I'm sort of surprised some of the usual haters haven't hijacked this thread yet. So let me throw up a few pre-emptive strikes. 0-0 games? There have been three (out of 164 matches so far) in the 20 year history of the WWC. Diving? Seldom happens in the women's...

In your opinion, what sport has the best championship trophy?

If you want to consider defunct leagues, the USFL had the best trophy.

Roger Goodell Will Cut Salary To $1 If Lockout!

The CFL and UFL won't benefit from any lockout, if anything, most people will just get their football fix with the college games that seem to be played every night of the week. The main beneficiary of a lockout might be the American family who might actually get out and spend some quality time...

Using the BSU-Nevada Game to Predict Saskatchewan Roughrider Victory in the Grey Cup

That Stallions championship season was a lot of fun. They were a very exciting team to watch. Sadly the mood was dampened by Modell announcing his move just prior to the CFL playoffs. However I did read a book many years later that said that Speros had run up so many debts in Baltimore that the...

Using the BSU-Nevada Game to Predict Saskatchewan Roughrider Victory in the Grey Cup

The first entire football game of any kind that I've watched this season. Great game by both teams.

Using the BSU-Nevada Game to Predict Saskatchewan Roughrider Victory in the Grey Cup

Checked the weather for Edmonton tomorrow. Kickoff temperature will be 16 degrees with light snow. Yet another reason the Grey Cup is far more fun than the Super Bowl.

Thanks for that info. Perhaps I will need to re-visit the possibility when the new season begins in March.

DISH Network MUST be a Cavs fan!!!

No, I get all the channels I need for $80 (well, until MSG got dropped, but that only affected Saturday's game, the remaining games are on the other networks). To get those same networks on DirectTV would cost $50 more. I say that because as I was pretending to place an order, I was not able to...

NHL Could Start Bidding War in Next TV Rights Deal

With ESPN, it would just get lost among its various properties. The NHL is top dog on Versus and I like it that way.

DISH Network MUST be a Cavs fan!!!

When I switched to satellite three years ago, I did so with one of my sporting preferences (I won't say which one because all the soccer-haters will jump all over me, oops guess I just did) in mind. I chose Dish Network. With the recent situation I did, just out of curiousity, go to DirecTVs...

For All You UFL Fans Out There

I did watch the first half today. Hartford looked pretty good. Sacramento didn't. It obviously isn't NFL calibre football and it doesn't try to be, the league recognizes its role as a development opportunity for players. Hopefully it draws well enough and keeps its budgets tight so it sticks...
