I would be surprised it they did, but my good friend Bill Blu Hunt seems to be worried about it.

Always a reliable source for breaking news, he confirms in this afternoon's My Two Cents Afternoon Update that Warner was in discussions today to go HD DVD only, and urges reader to plead with Warner to remain neutral.

Bill Blu-ray Hack Hunt said:
While you're at it, some of you might want to express to Warner your desire for them to stay format neutral in the face of pressure (and money) from Microsoft, which we hear is definitely being applied today at the studio.

John, I have said many times that the HD-DVD format came out pretty much mature and that the BD format has been playing catch-up. And yes I am talking about the future -- the immeadiate future as in this XMAS. I hope we all make it. At that time we will be able to see if BD can deliver the same experiance with BD-Java as HD-DVD does with HDi. And I have admonised the BD group for the lack of maturity in their players as concerned with BD-Java. Hence the reason I purchased a PS3 -- the only BD player I know that has all the hardware to be fully BD-Live compliant right now.

And while I am at it the cat is out of the bag -- M$ is off the hook for the $150 mil as it was Toshiba who purchased the exclusivity of both Paramount and Dreamworks. We will see if it makes any impact at all in discs sales because quite frankly -- it is discs sales that a studio counts - not player sales.

But the PS3 doesn't have enough memory to technically be -live compliant, right? And PiP isn't assured, is it?

"What about the quantum super computers? 15 years ago; they were 10 years away. 10 years ago they were 10 years away. 5 years ago..."

Commercial fusion reactors are 30 years away from commercial viability and have been for the last 50 years.

BTW, IIRC, the decoding we are discussing in fact only required that "half plus 1" of the possibilities be examined/decoded, on average, for an infinite number of problems in which the correct answer is determinable (e.g.- language, sentences, etc). All would have to be examined/decoded when, for example, a string of numbers was the object being decoded. Then other concerns enter as well. Determining you have the correct result is not trivial.

I suggest we pursue no further the comments about continuous transmission and random numbers.

Correct. It only has 256MB but the spec for BD-Live is 1GB.

Actually it is persistant storage PC World - New Specs for Next-Generation Blu-ray Players at 1GB. Even the lowest ps3 has 20GB.

Ahh; I view persistent as something along the lines of flash memory; ala the HD-DVD players.

HD as "persistent"memory is great; right up until the hard drive fails :D

Hmm, Sony seems to have left the backup feature off the menu for the PS3. I wonder how long it will be before there is demand for backing up the PS3. You could lose so many valuable game file saves, and interactive BD save sessions  !

Seriously, it seems ironic that so far the PS3 might be the only player able to be upgraded to every proposed spec so far. Hard to believe there is a market for the higher priced BD players.

John, when was the last time you had a hard drive failure? And do you not count memory cards in your equation? And what makes you think that there are no BD players with flash memory -- just where do you think the updates to firmware is being held? You actually believe that this is all that is held there?

I guess I should have read the PS3 manual. I did not know there was a backup function! The PS3 really has everything.

John, when was the last time you had a hard drive failure?

Between my machine, my wife's machine and my step daughter's machine about 1 drive annually. Yes; it is that frequent. My last failure was about 3 or 4 months ago with my wife's machine. Rather than spend the money to fix the drive; they (she works for a law firm) replaced the laptop as her old one was getting a little long in the tooth. I lost a drive last June (2006); but I upgraded drives on my laptop in December of last year for a larger and faster spindle.

Anyone that actually knows systems knows that it's always a question of when not if a drive will fail. I am not counting my RAID for media storage (8 drives) or my test systems (another 7 drives) that I work with at home in those failures.

And do you not count memory cards in your equation? And what makes you think that there are no BD players with flash memory -- just where do you think the updates to firmware is being held?

None that meet the spec of 1GB of persistent storage. Firmware upgrades are usually around 50-100MB; and they give away more flash storage than that at trade shows.

You actually believe that this is all that is held there?

I know more than I reveal.

It's great if you're upgrading drives. Most people in the real world don't back up their drives and by the time they realize they should do so; it's too late.

Tell me how the overwhelming majority of people that don't backup in anticipation of failure are going to recover the data that isn't backed up?

But.....if you like Tulsa King....looks like you would probably like this as well. I don't mind spin-offs as long as they don't involve a sassy niece who moves from the big city

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Trailer below, spoiling it to make sure you read the above bold message first. The book / audio book are fantastic. Go into this blind if you can IMO!

Kind of disappointed at how much they show. A lot still to see, but man, some good reveals in the book that are just served up here.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

I had quit watching this show years ago because I ended up more annoyed than entertained. Well......I'm STILL more annoyed than entertained. I DO find it interesting to see how things work behind the scenes at many businesses. What annoys me is how utterly out of touch CEOs are with the companies they run. At the end of almost every episode the head of the company is amazed at how hard the employees have to work and many times have to work around impossible guidelines set forth from headquarters.

I found this one interesting because the new CEO had big plans for this company, Muscle Maker Grill, and it looked like the stores were all pretty busy. Recent history hasn't been good to this company however. I bet the covid lockdowns were the real killer.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
