Ok....this has got me really steamed. Dish started acting up after a storm on Tuesday. Called for service and the earliest they could get us in was Friday between noon and 5pm. I take a vacation day today to sit around and wait for the knob to show up.

Well, at 3:30 the local place calls and says he'll be here by 5pm. At 5:30 I call Dish customer service and ask where he is. The put me on hold and call the local guy. Come back and say he's running late, and say they can't give me a time when he'll be there because the local place's computers are down. I mention to the guy that I've been up since 5am (we have 3 kids age 3 and under), and that I took a vacation day to be here for this. He apologizes, etc. We hang up.

Well, at 7:30pm I call back and ask what the heck is going on. CS rep puts me on hold to check and disconnects me. While I'm calling back the local place calls to tell me it will be another 2.5 to 3 hours before they'll be able to get to my house, but they will still come if that's ok. I keep my cool - but NO, that is not ok. My wife just about falls out of her chair that they expect us to have some repair guy running around at 10:30pm at night. What kind of morons are these people? But here's the best part: I can reschedule for next Wednesday...that's the earliest they have available. I tell them that's unacceptable and I expect someone here at 8am on Saturday. No dice. 8am Wednesday or nothing. I say no thanks and tell them I'll call Dish and deal with them.

Call Dish and get a lot of "I'm sorries" and "thanks for your patience", but basically told the same thing. 10:00pm to 10:30pm tonight or Wednesday morning, that's the best they will do for me. I ask why he thinks this is reasonable resolution for me after I have taken a vacation day and have to do it all again. No answer. I tell him to schedule it for Wednesday, but told him if someone wasn't here by noon it would be in a box on the front porch for them, and that I was also going to call the "other" satellite company and if they could schedule a new install before Dish could be here for a repair, they other guys would be getting my business. I then ask to talk to his supervisor. He asks me why I want to talk to the super and I tell him because I'm not satisfied with how my situation has been handled. Ok...please hold.

Now, keep in mind that other than asking the local guys what kind of crack they're smoking expecting me to have a repair person running around at 10pm, I've kept my cool and generally not been too testy with them. I wait for the super for quite a while. Naturally when he picks up I get a dial tone (second time tonight they've done that to me).

I then call back the local (their # is in the caller ID) and tell them that they had better be absolutely positive that they tell this knob not to show up at my house tonight. If someone rings my doorbell tonight I will be calling the cops. I think I flustered this woman a bit because my anger was finally starting to show a bit.

So here I sit. Dish is throwing up switch errors (I have a 625 DVR and Dish 500 with a DPP Twin), and one line out of the dish only shows signals from even-numbered transponders and the other only shows signals from odd-numbered transponders (sounds like a bad switch?). I can't get a darn thing at all to show up on TV2. The transponders that do show signals come in fairly strong (70-75 on the new meter), but only a handful of channels can actually be watched on TV1 without dropping. Luckily we still have one or two things on the DVR we haven't watched yet, and a few of the kids favorite movies.

I'm so irritated. I can't believe they missed the appointment window by 5 hours and aren't going to do anything to try and get this fixed before Wednesday. I've never had anything like this happen before. Wife and I just went over the local cable and other sat co's channel line ups. I had the other sat service for 9+ years before switching to Dish - I bet I could get a pretty sweet deal for coming back...I might just give them a call to see what they'll do for me.

Is this standard operating procedure, or do we just have really bad local service in my area? I'm just floored they wanted to come out here at 10pm. I have a 3.5 year old son and 20-month old twin girls. There's no way I want someone screwing around in and out of the house that late at night, but then to expect me to wait 5 more days is nuts.

Anyone have any suggestions besides sit back, drink a beer and enjoy the 10 or so channels that ARE working? :)

Thanks, and sorry for the long rant,

Gary

You have no idea the kinds of problems a tech can run into in the course of a normal day.

I agree with the last poster....at least he was willing to come out at that late of an hour.....should have let him come... probably just a bad lnb.It might have taken 15 minutes and you would have had tv.

You are seriously saying someone should be allowed to come at 10:30 at night??? That is rediculous as hell! Of course things can happen, as customers we need to realize that but at least they could have offered to come first thing the next morning and take care of the problem.

Some of you techs really crack me up with what you think customers should put up with.

Each job type consists of a certain amount of units. A service call consists of 12 units, in theory 3 12 unit jobs can be scheduled in the am, realisticly 1 of those 12 unit jobs could be alot more then bargained for.

Typically I would recieve a 12 unit and a 30 unit in the am, followed by a 18 unit plus a 22 unit.

12 unit = service call
30 unit = 4 room install
18 unit = 1 room install
22 unit = 2 room install

You can't just add 12 more units to the next days route, it doesn't work like that. Calendars are built ahead of time for the next days routes. That is why it could not be rescheduled for the following day. CSR's can not overide that calendar. There have been some bad CSR's that would intentionally build a work order out for a 1 room install KNOWING that the customer wants a 4 room install just to meet the customer's demands of "I can't wait or I'll goto D*" attitude. So they'll work the system in order to squeeze it in just to make that one customer happy but yet someone else eats it down the line. Done seen it many times.

If they started allowing to just be there the next day in the OP situation as an example that then there would be a whole heck of alot more complaints of people having missed their install window.

It's not a utility as some sort of think where if there's a power outage at 2 am a crew is going to roll due to a lights out, it's entertainment.

Juggle 13+ million subscribers in your own hand, you need to follow a system in order to serve everyone. Cheating the system adds to a percentage to it but the facts are that you many encounter some bumps down the road. Ya'll have been stuck in traffic before on your way to work to find that you were late.

Bottomline: they were still willing to come, plain and simple - on a friday night at that.

Very cool webbydude! That shows what a great place this is. I hope it all works out. Let us know Gary.

Well, just wanted to let everyone know, I talked to WebbyDude last night and we set up for him to be here at 11am this morning. He was incredibly professional on the phone, and gave me his name and tech ID# so I could confirm his employment to appease my wife.

He showed up right at 11am as promised, and the Dish was working again at 11:30am (probably would have been sooner if I hadn't BS'd with him so much!) As I suspected, it was the LNB/switch assembly that needed to be replaced. He fixed it up and was out of here in time to make it to his next appointment on time. Picture is beautiful again and signal is nice and strong.

My wife was so happy he was coming here on a Sunday she ran up to Target before he came this morning and got him a tin of chocolate covered pretzels as a thank-you. While my wife and kids don't watch a whole lot of TV, it's still a bummer not having it around with three kids age 3 and under for her to deal with every day.

I'm one happy camper and want to give a big THANK YOU to WebbyDude for stepping in to get it fixed. My wife and I are going to type up a letter to mail to his employer letting them know how happy we are and what a great job he did. Stepping up like he did was above and beyond the call of duty. How refreshing to have such a great resolution to something that started out so badly.

Thanks again WebbyDude!

Gary

It's customers like Gary that makes my job worthwhile. Not only was he kind, courteous, and had a very firm understanding of what he actually got from Dish...but him and his wife gave me chocolate covered pretzels :D!! (actually, the girlfriend and her daughters managed to steal most of them from me...LOL)

Snacks aside, it was the overall attitude that him and his family presented that reminded me why I stick with this job. A paycheck is one thing...but seeing and hearing customer satisfaction (smiles on the adults...laughter and grins from the children), THAT's what keeps me going.

Bottom line, I'm glad that I not only got your system up and running in a relative short-time, but that I helped to show that Dish (employees, contractors, et al) can be a good thing. Enjoy :)

First to respond to your smart ass comment... I am a registered nurse working in ER so, yes I meet my deadlines and I am a professional, if this weren't the case, people would die!!!

Now back to the discussion, I still say to come to someones home that late at night is rediculous! Yes, of course things happen, it is not a perfect world! If you are unable to make it or are going to be late you should call the customer and be able to make alternate arrangements. You should be allowed to offer coming first thing the next day, or have another tech come and cover for you. I know this kind of thing is difficult in Dish's sh*t system but the bottom line is we are the customers. We should be accomidated to a certain extent and if you don't like that get out of any line of work that involves customer service, PERIOD!

While I am at it I am sick and tired of installers who know less about this technology than I do. Having to explain to the tech how this equipment works is getting old. Having a tech tell me I am having reception problems because the satellites are at different altitudes? There should be some minimum educational standards in place here!
P
to help the customers here understand what "floaters" are in the dish lingo

FLOATER: a job that is allowed to be scheduled without the direct link to a tech on the event that some jobs are unable to be completed (ie. no line of sight, customer leaving for an emergency, not home).

the down side to this is that somedays ALL jobs go in .. leaving the "floating" customer undone, and the fsm isnt gonna go do it unless hell has frozen over.

or the job is out where there are no techs that can reach it and still make the rest of his appointments

the "floater" isnt a tech.. its a customer.. and we have the goal of the next million customer to thank for that.. we need to go back to the lower amount of points so that we can provide the service we were once able to give!

One of my biggest peeves. Having a 4 room dish mover built as a TC. Or like you said, a 4 room system built as a 1 room. The ones I see most often are the "dual tuner to 1 room only" tags that are almost always 2 rooms. I don't mind those so much as I do the other ones. It just irks me that the CSRs think that "well, the tech will handle it when he gets there. There can usually make do with anything." Truth is, we can't. It's bad enough when the work orders are right. We're being pushed to do more and more work in a day, and the average customer has no idea just how much work is involved and how much nitpicky stuff we have to do now.

They used to be called "giveaways" but some genius thought "floaters" sounded better to the customers. Great. So now an unassigned job doesn't sound like an orphan, it sounds like something that didn't get flushed down the first time. :D

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

Be nice to see a Cowboy headline like that.
Yes the Cowboys owner needs to fire the general manager (himself), co-owner, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Executive Vice President, Director of Player Personnel, and President of AT&T Stadium (his son) and then he should jump off of a cliff. Only then can they recover.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

On the West Coast, a 40-cent differential is common. It used to be 30 cents before the prices rose above $3.

A "full dollar more" sounds like it may be boat gas (non-alcoholic), which is a whole different discussion.

Both non-ethanol and prem run about the same....buck more. When we were up in TN it was a buck more up there as well.

In Oregon, our premium boat gas is about a dollar more than our corn premium. Several stations only offer the non-corn premium grade.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
