Interpretation of Check Switch Results

I have 4 311 receivers and a quad Dish 500. About 2 weeks ago, when I tried all 4 receivers, I got an error on 2 of them that an error had been detected on my switch when I first turned them on in the morning. I did a hard reset on the front of both receivers, and have never seen the problem again. Tonight, I ran a check switch on 2 of my 4 receivers, and got a message that the test found less satellites than were previously found, and on one I said save the new results, and on the other I said cancel, thus keeping the previous results. When I looked at the details of each test, the one that I said save on, showed odd/even polarity on sat 119, but only odd polarity for sat 110. The details of the test that I said cancel on showed odd/even polarity for both the 119 and 110 sat. If I press the sys info button on the remote for each of the 2 receivers I ran the check switch test on, each show greeen for both the 119 and 110 sats, with a status of "GOOD", no signal loss detected. I don't know how to interpret the different results for the polarity test of the 119 sat I get when I run check switch on each one. The results are 100% reproducable each time I run the test. Any help interpreting what this means would be appreciated. Thanks

laman400 - There is a known hardware issue with 311 receivers that are directly connected to DISHPro LNBs. They won't recognize the even xdrs on a check switch test. However, if everything else checks out, then you should have no programming interruption.

dishcomm - If troubleshooting is done correctly by DISH tech agents, there shouldn't be any TCs created for situations like the one you discussed. In practice, there will always be customers who aren't happy until they know just enough to really screw up their systems. But generally, when customers call in for tech help (regardless of whether or not a DNS tech, RSP or retailer has been out previously for the same issue), they just want the system to work. If the rep is confident and knows his/her stuff, the customer will almost always accept the given explanation (even if it's "There's no problem here").

That's one I missed for EKB: 311 Software History . Let us know if the problem is fixed when you get P419.

You never quite know when something you read here will help. For example, a few days ago I lost all channels from 2 of the Dish satellites. I remembered someone had posted a comment that this had occurred to them, and they had remedied the problem by going to the "check switch" item. I hit the "check switch" menu item, and behold, the 2 missing satellite channels are back. What the heck "check switch" has to do with this I don't know, but I do know the remedy works sometimes.

Saved me a lot of worry and probably a service call, though I would have done a receiver reset before I called anyone, and that might have solved the problem too.

Regards,
Fitzie

I agree. BUt as you know in the real world, "should" is theory, "is" is reality. The of course there is the biggest word in the English language, "if"..

Update:
I received the P419 update on 2 of my 4 receivers last night. I ran "Check Switch" on these 2 receivers just now (the 2 having the new P419 update for the 311 receiver), and the test passed without any problems being found on either receiver. The new P419 update is now seeing the even # transponders on Sat 110 OK, so the problem in the P417 update has been fixed.

Song Name Game Part 3!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.
