Should Voom allow to sell and activate 2nd hand units?

Dear All,
Hope this will get to the right person and/or company...
Recently I bought a Voom(Motorola) receiver from ebay.
The seller listed the unit as ready to use unit with access card and everything needed.
At that time, I was not aware that actually nobody is allowed to sell these units except Voom and it's authorized dealers, (Sears and Crutchfield)
After buying it, I found it from Voom customer service that they'll not activate such a unit because it's forbidden to buy/sell units like this and it's considered stolen unit/service. Well after the aqusation of being a fraud, I reached back eBay, their PayPal buyer protection service and filed a return/refund claim.
I sent them the Sorry, I forgot to add, if you can send a fax explaning the violation of reselling these units, eBay will void this auction, refund the money and by taking this as a sample ban the other Voom auctions and sales...

The documents must be faxed to PayPal at (402) 537-5760. Please include a cover sheet with your fax that includes my email address sales@exoticbargain.com and the ID number of my claim (PP-041-589-967) so that they may attach the documents to the claim as quickly as possible.

Now Ebay is asking me to get something is writing from Voom or from unbiased third party company that Voom will not register the item I bought as the Seller is not authorized to sell such items.
I would really appretiate if any authorized person or company can fax me in their company letter head that Voom will not register and provide service for this unit...

They wants us to include the serial numbers of the unit and access card too.
Unit's serial number is 0698474008019651, Access Card's serial number is 00000251843.
I attached below the auction and seller's details and Ebay/PayPal's respond to dispute, void this sale and refund this $292.95 charge, this will most importantly lead them to block any sale of these items on eBay; so that no one will get hurt and loose $290+ for nothing...
I would appretiate any help.

Good points! We all here seem to forget Voom is owned by a cable company. This bears out the cavalier attitude displayed by Voom of take what we give you or go back to Rabbit Ears. They are accustomed to no competition due to protected service areas from the cable industry. Wake up Voom! This is the DBS industry and you do have competitors!

Nope. It's my opinion (although I don't know) the box is a voom box and was originally sold by voom (provided it's not stolen). As far as I know the seller was someone like me (vooming since october) who purchased their equipment and was never offered a lease option (which I would not have taken) from voom or anyone else. I found out about it on this forum. Maybe the seller decided to drop voom and asked them to repurchase the equipment back and they either refused (cause it was after a deadline, seller knew nothing about) or made to low an offer. Then maybe the seller decided to try and sell it on ebay, to get some money back. I might have done the same thing.

If/when they get their box working right, they could lay off some csr's. Any increase won't be for this, it'll be because they have a half million or more customers, so it won't matter if they lose a few customers who get pissed from the increase.

I agree with this, provided by "outside" you don't mean me using an old and larger D* or E* dish or one I went out and bought to help solve my problems with rain fade and such. Even if I bought it on ebay. Or going to Radio Shack and getting a new diplexer cause mine fried for some reason. But, if yours fries, then call your installer. And get genuine voom authorized parts so they're not "outside" equipment, which will not be tolerated by voom. Even if it takes 3 weeks to 2 months to get your new diplexer. you can count on voom to give you a credit for time lost and possibly even some extra time.

I love my HDTV....

Well, considering a company has the right to refuse service to anyone they choose in certain circumstances, you are technically correct.

However, it still doesn't mean it's not wrong/stupid/, and quite possibly still illegal if they would otherwise provide you the service if bought the box from them. They are forcing you to use their dealer to buy the box. I'm sure that violates some law somewhere (and if not, it damn well should).

thank goodness i found this out before i was going to buy a used box. silly though voom is really acting very silly, they're acting as if they are only leasing you the box and not charging you a fee when you pay the full price, same with my phone company here who has adsl i found the exact same looking adsl modem on ebay i told them if i buy it will i be charged the leasing fee of the modem and they said i would still be charged so go figure. I bet my cable co is the same as voom which offers to lease the hd box or buy it outright i bet they wouldn't let me transfer it to another name.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.

Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

My son is rg colorblind, but we found there are degrees. If something is vivid red or green, he can see a hint of color. I bought him a pair of the glasses when they first came out. He said they did improve things slightly, but not to the extent they are being touted. I think they are sitting in a drawer somewhere.

It looked like there were at least three iterations to try to match up to the given individual deficit, and a test to take to determine which would best help. But at best they seem a marginal measure and not practical.

I'd probably say when they came up with their M-series of processors with integrated memory. That allowed Apple to get away from the inefficient Intel CPUs that were limiting their notebook computers.

Report on my iphone 18 PM
Working well with about 3-4 days battery life. New BT and Wifi range is much better than the 15 I had. It doesn't seem any faster but probably is. The Camera shooting video has amazing image stabilization.
Only observed issue is once in awhile, the screen loses touch sensitivity and requires a soft reboot and delete the many open apps to fix. This happens about once a week since buying it.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

Chances are, they told you about how hard and long it would take for them to place that fiber to your area ... Poles needed to be placed and what not ...

If you know the folks who have fiber, strike a deal with them and pay for a Wavlink AX3000. I've installed these for customers and they will light up abut 10 acres. One customer is linking her security camera to it and the cam is about 1,000 ft from the radio. These are also usable as repeaters so you could install one at your house for that purpose. Heck, offer to pay 75% of their monthly bill if that's what it takes.

That would be ATT Or the Power Company depending on the situation ... easily figured out by looking at the Tag on All Poles.

Might not be an option, due to easements. I can't see governments allowing public property (easements) for exclusive use by just one company.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

I have not been updated to 715 yet. I am on a QE "Beta" or Test version that did fix the audio issue. The last communication I had with the team mentioned that the full release of that fix was likely in December.
It would be nice to know if 715 does solve that issue of no audio when Dolby is ON, during 4K HDR events.

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.
