I have been a Dish customer since the company had only one satellite in orbit (and am a long time investor). I just had a problem resolved at my home...and now have a new 250' coax run from the dish to the side of the house sitting on top of my lawn, waiting for the dog to chew through it (we live in a heavily wooded area, and the dish is in the only spot that works). The contractor would only bury 25', and I'm responsible for the rest. What's up with that? I have neither the time nor the tools to bury the coax, nor do I think it should be my responsibility. It's not wiring in the house, it's wiring associated with getting the signal all the way to the house. It would be like Comcast (which took over the Adelphia system in my town about a year ago) telling me that I'm responsible for burying the drop from the street to the house.

Even if I want to pay someone to do the work (and I'm guessing it would cost me $150 or more around here), I don't even know where to begin finding someone to do this kind of work (the contractor does 25' or less, nothing more).

Any thoughts on what to do? Adelphia was terrible, but Comcast is much better. I'm thinking that a threat of moving to cable is in order here...get out to my house and bury that cable or I'm goine.

Anyone care to chime in?

Thanks.

At the risk of kicking you when you're down, but that must be one heck of a dog you have. I have yet to see a dog chew on any coax...or anything else carrying a current. I don't think you're giving your dog enough credit. Most seem to have the ability to sense electrical current, and as such, won't mess with it.

To the OP:

Do you honestly think that even if DISH eats this service visit that you won't ever see it on your bill in the form of higher monthly costs for your programming?

Doing things like sending technicians out to bury people's excessive cable runs are costs that get put under the "Overhead" or "Operational Expenses" category. In order to remain profitable after incurring those overheads, they have to charge enough to stay above that figure. In other words, rate hike! So, you can have DISH eat it and you can eat it on your bill for however long you are a customer, or you can do it and not have all the other customers subsidize your demands or you subsidizing other customers' demands.

My question to you is, how many customers' free burial installs have you subsidized in your 8-10 years of being a customer?

For an investor I would think you would have a grasp of this concept.

You're overlooking the fact that by spending $300 to keep me happy, Dish would insure that I'm a happy customer, and one who will likely remain with them for many more years. In fact, they could have asked for another 12 or 24 month commitment from me in return for doing the burial. The knowledge that I'm a 10 year customer would have made this an easy decision: keep this guy happy (or at least be sure not to upset him) and he'll stay with us for years. By setting up a situation where I'm at risk of being unhappy (and they have to know that leaving a customer with 200' of coax to bury runs that risk), they face the prospect of losing me...and then having to spend $600+ to replace me with what will most likely be an inferior (not as long lasting) customer.

As an investor, and business person, I can tell you that I'm happy to see the company spend $300 all day long to keep its best customers happy (especially if the company can get a commitment equal to that for which they spend a lot more for unknown new customers). That's not money that will have to be collected from other customers in the form of higher fees; that's money well spent!

Time to bury this 'Thread." Please

Ever thought of covering the cable up with some dirt instead of burying it?
A truckload of dirt should be alot cheaper and you can taper the mound off to look natural.

I like that, very punny :)

Wouldn't it be cheaper to cut the offending tree down than to bury a 250' long cable? XD

So, going by your "theory", Dish should spend $300 on it's best customers.

Well, let say by "best" you JUST mean the "top" 1 million since Dish is approaching 15 million.

Let me do the math for you: 1,000,000 x $300 = $300 million.

Hell, even just the top 100,000 = $30 million.

Do you get the BIG picture now??

That's why Charlie has Free "Standard" Installation, not Free "anything you want" installation.

Gonna be a Johnny come lately here, but I have 3 American Pit Bull Terriers and had a buried phone line to the box on the side of my house. I had a 4 month old pup chew straight through it no problems whatsoever. Thankfully, I have cable based phone that comes from an aerial drop:D, otherwise, I would be minus a phone line.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

Not seeing 44 (WVBT-DT/44 CW Norfolk ) on my D* app for firestick

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

Be nice to see a Cowboy headline like that.
Yes the Cowboys owner needs to fire the general manager (himself), co-owner, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Executive Vice President, Director of Player Personnel, and President of AT&T Stadium (his son) and then he should jump off of a cliff. Only then can they recover.
rvvaquero
Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Last night it was about $4.17 gas, $6,19 diesel.

On the West Coast, a 40-cent differential is common. It used to be 30 cents before the prices rose above $3.

A "full dollar more" sounds like it may be boat gas (non-alcoholic), which is a whole different discussion.

Both non-ethanol and prem run about the same....buck more. When we were up in TN it was a buck more up there as well.

In Oregon, our premium boat gas is about a dollar more than our corn premium. Several stations only offer the non-corn premium grade.
