I can't believe it, I was just saying the other day that someone would bring a final standard BD to the market under $300 by XMAS '08 and here someone has:

Funai to Release Final Standard Profile Player for Under $300 : Format War Central

Now I believe this to be a 1.1 standard BD player from here:

http://funai.us/BDPrelease010208.pdf

Still this sounds like Funai is on the right track and if it does pass both DolbyTrueHD and DTSMasterHD thru bitstream this might end up being a nice product.

Can someone explain why all BD players have to decode the lossless codecs? Some of you don't even believe that there is a differance between a lossless and a lossey codec? There is a market out there for both type of players. I guess that means that you have to become a little bit more knowlegeable about the BD players and their individual capabilties. This might be a good thing and it also might be why a site like this one is so valuable. There are alot of folks who will point out the strengths and weaknesses of the newer players. For some those weaknesses are not a concern -- for others they may be.

Simple, because if the player doesn't decode it then 99% of the AVR's out there can't provide the user with the other half of the HD experience. THIS CAN'T BE OVER LOOKED!!!!!

You keep throwing out 99%. Please provide a link to the research that was conducted that proved that only 1% of Blu-Ray disk owners own audio recievers that decode hi res audio............................... more facts and less wild guesses skewed to your opinion please. The real number, albeit low relatively, is on the rise and will continue to rise.

WHo is going to the the buyer of the 300 dollar Funai???

The videophile? not
The average AV buyer?? Why would he when a $299 PS3 is sitting next to it?
Its great that the chinese are going to produce players but they are not going to have much success until they significantly beat the PS3 price.

I used the same source you used when making your statement "albeit low relatively".

I don't know an exact number, that's why I didn't throw one out. You used an exact number (implying facts) which you have used in more than one post. In my opinion it is ludicrous to assume only 1% of BD owners have a newer generation audio reciever.

With the PS3 being a huge percentage of BD sales and with the relative newness of these next generation audio receivers I think its ludicrous to think otherwise.

Since there is no true source for these percentages whether it is hardware or software sales comparisons, are you now calling for the banning of its use? If so a lot of the post here would go bye bye. So round and round we go right back to where we were, the same place you were when you said "albeit low relatively". If you want to nit pick around the edges of the point I'm making then help yourself, but the point still stands.

1%?????????? Whatever dude. Agree to disagree.

Listen... not every one is a gamer. Many of us don't want a loud, hot, ugly PS3 that will have its optical drive break in 3 months out in the open. Okay, I exagerrated the last part. Seriously, the PS3 is the fastest most complete (audio codecs and profile) BD player out there. However, it has its flaws--soft PQ, aesthetics, kludgy IR workaround, excessive fan noise, etc. No player is perfect. A lot of us (raises hand) just don't want one.

As far as the AVR thing goes, most people (even high def TV owners) use their TV speakers. The ones that have surround sound use digital coax or Toslink for the most part. A few use analog audio inputs. Even fewer use HDMI. The people that care about lossless audio will make the appropriate purchases. They're not the ones to whom the Funai players are marketed.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
