I am somewhat of a BUD newbie, but it's been my dream for a long time to be able to get into it. I have recently acquired a 10ft Winegard dish and have got it set up and working. I've got all of the C-band sats programmed in. I also have a FTA receiver slaved on the system and have enjoyed scanning out all of the FTA signals on C-band.

After endless tweaking, I'm fairly confident that my arc is tracking correctly. I have excellent signal east to west and at the top of the arc. (Thanks to geo-orbit.org)

Then I started trying to get Ku working and there went the free time. Everything I read suggested starting with C-band and now I see why. I am able to get a very slight Ku analog signal on my receiver on AMC15 (105 deg) and Echostar9 (121deg). It's just a pattern for Echostar scheduling or something. When I try to use the signal meter on the FTA receiver, it's maybe 6-13% max on any sats. I have checked and measured the centering of the feedhorn, adjusted the focal depth and checked the dish for warping. It's in great shape and has very fine mesh.

Today I went out with a signal meter I purchased from Sadoun and got a decent signal as I adjusted the feedhorn slightly to find the sweet spot, thinking the f/d was off a hair. I go back inside, thinking I have finally got it fixed, and nothing on analog or digital. Repeat this process a dozen times or more. (At 101 deg my signal meter goes off the chart on the Ku side, but there's nothing on FTA receiver. Is this Directv maybe???)

What am I missing? My C-band signal is excellent, no sparkles or anything on almost all channels. FTA receiver has a consistent signal of 70-80% on almost every sat. I know c-band is easier, but am I missing something?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Do you think the lnb could be bad?
It is quite possible that the LNB is bad.

There aren't any obstructions in the mouth of the feed-horn are there?

It is possible to get C-Band through a small amount of wasp nests etc, but not Ku.

Just a thought.
H
No, there are no obstructions in the feed horn. I also live in the country and have clear sky all the way. I have been through everything, and tweaked and adjusted in every conceivable direction combination with no improvement. The wasp nests were at the very base inside the mouth, not up around the element at the top. There's a cover on it now, so they can't get into that part when the weather warms up.

I'm now thinking it might be worth it to check out a new lnb. But I am now torn between trying that option or going with a motorized ku only dish. I'm really only interested in having Ku for FTA, and using it as a slave is a pain at times. It would be nice to let the FTA receiver control the Ku side of things. Besides, I've got a nice new buried cable going out there just waiting for a new motorized Ku only dish. :-)

Have you tried FTA C-Band?

You really should tune the dish using the FTA receiver and the quality meter on it. The FTA digital signal will provide you with a much more accurate tuning than the analog signal will.

There is nothing wrong with having a separate Ku motorized dish, but you could have everything if you were to get a GBox V3000 and allow the FTA receiver to move the dish for it and the 4DTV.

If you are going to think about purchasing a new LNB anyway, why not explore a Geo-Sat Pro C/Ku LNBF.

I have one of them on my Birdview dish and have been very please with the performance. You could buy the C/Ku LNBf for about the same money you would pay for a Ku LNB.

Just some things to think about.
gabshere
if your running dual cables to the dish you can swap them to verify the cables are good

one of the connectors on mine was bad and gave a poor signal/ no signal new compression fitting and its like new.

i would agree with the G-box method its the best way to move the dish (with a dvb receiver)
H
Thanks so much for all of your input. Actually I just replaced the entire cable from the dish to the house a few days ago and made sure my connections were working then. Replacing the cable is what started me fooling around with the Ku band issue again. The C-band FTA is working perfectly, excellent signal all across the sky.

I've thought seriously about the GBox positioner. I've become quite attached to the Toshiba Trx 2200 that came with this system, though. Had I not managed to find replacement bulbs for the lcd display, that's probably the way I would have gone. I'm pushing the money limit I wanted to spend on this setup. I have a feeling whatever I purchase will be the last amount of money I will be allowed to spend on this obsession, if you know what I mean.

Again, thanks for all of your help. I'm going to play around with it some more before I spend any money, but I sincerely appreciate everyone's input.

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

I have gigabit fiber in an underground box on my property. But it's not lit up yet so I'm stuck with copper too. For now anyway.

Chances are, they told you about how hard and long it would take for them to place that fiber to your area ... Poles needed to be placed and what not ...

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

Another supplement I wanted to mention was Luteolin. This has two major benefits
1) it helps improve your memory
2) it has a unique anti-greying affect. Saw a Daily Mail news story about a year ago I guess and they were testing different antioxidants on black mice and found that the ones they gave luteolin to barely greyed at all where the control group greyed normally. Has something to do with this stuff preventing the hair roots from becoming damaged which is one of the causes of going grey.

Now I've been taking this supplement for a long time and at 62 I barely have any grey hairs at all.
If it would only help improve my ability to remember NAMES!!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

There is one there too. I would think either is justifiable as they make both the device and provide a streaming program service.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.

A lot of upsets yesterday, but my LSU Tigers won.
Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

Meantime ads have been running for a "Protect College Sports Act" moving through Congress.

After a strange reboot last night in the middle of viewing, this morning several more reboots and about a half an hour download.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

brittanygarden and Rick Durham

jsmit86 and naptime - If you are able to use H715, does the issue mentioned below still exist?
