I used to be semi-regular around here. I enjoyed having intelligent arguments and discussions with people. (Who could forget the battle royale over Pixel Aspect Ratios!) And there was always good gossip and information.
Now, it seems like most of info is kept secret, like the Pub Forum is some kind of Illuminati.
More annoying to me...the board has been overrun with...well, I'll try to be polite. Let's just say I read a whole thread arguing over the best way to pass HD over s-video cables. There's also WAY more overreacting (not that we all haven't done our share.) and a general lack of logic in many (most?) of the arguments people make. It's just Rant Central now.
So, uh...all the fine people I used to enjoy chatting with...are you all hiding from the riff-raff in the Pub Forum?
Oh, and I apologize to any Ladies who were left out of my subject header, but we all know this is a sausage-fest around here.

See, right here is all the info I was looking for.
Although Scott makes a good point...I don't want to downplay everything he does. His work alone is worth $20.
But I just haven't WANTED to come in the forums lately, unless there's something going on. I used to enjoy the conversation. And if I don't come to the forums at all, than all of Scott's work doesn't do me any good. I want other good people around.
It's like this...Sean Mota goes way back around here, and he said something today that is one of my pet peeve myths.
So I said "No...it's like this"
He said, "I didn't know about that, but did you know this?"
I said "Good point."
Everyone stays happy and we both learn something. But I haven't had too many conversations like that lately. Usually, the conversations end with my trying not to drop the C-Bomb. I'm getting too old to talk to idiots...my blood pressure can't take it. I'm hoping to have more civil conversations with the "great and helpful" people in the private area.

There are plenty of good and knowledgeable people here in the pub and in the other forums as well.
I have learned plenty and hopefully given good advice to others that have asked for MY help as well.
From reading your last post and the others in this thread, it sounds like you know all you need to know about this hobby and don't want to help others. (Too old to talk to idiots).
Once you look around for a bit, you will be able to determine who knows what they are talking about vs the others that just try to create controversy, (unfortunatly , there are those that want to do that) then again, this is an equal oppertunity site, very few scoldings and a very friendly place to hang out.

There are always going to be a few jerks; and yes, there have been a lot of frustrated people in the last few months; but that is more due to Dish Network's idiotic decisions and lack of actions then anything. BUT I do disagree that the forums are a mess.
I believe that SatelliteGuys is an amazing place; I consider the people here -- and particularly in the pub - to be close friends. There is a real sense of community; its not manufactured; it is real. And for me, it still is a paradise of 100 nice guys (and gals) helping each other out, joking around, and arguing in a civil manner. Heck, that sounds like the pub to me.

Agreed .. i have made several posts in there recently - that i would not have even considered making in the general forums ...
Its just easier and generally you get a much warmer and much more civil reply than you would in the general forum area's.
So in reply to your original post ... yes - you do seem to get a more intelligent and thoughtful argument/reply in the pub area of the site for the most part.
I agree; the easiest thing to do in those instance is to just pull the mouse away.
I will sometimes write a literate but scathing reply and then... walk away for five minutes and read it before hitting the submit button. 8 times out of ten, I simply delete it. The other two times I will tone it down here and there. Just once in recent months I let emotion color the post, and you can ask the regulars about the firestorm that triggered.
As others have mentioned, the pub is a friendly place where you generally feel safe to open up a bit.

It is nice that your thread doesn't get hijacked or get into a p* contest. Some of us enjoy Satellite as a hobby, it's our industry, or appreciate learning from others. This site gets several hits a day. I think this is important otherwise people like E* would not invite some of us to come visit their trade floor. That being said, it's nice when people do treat you like a gentleman or lady.

So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?

Paramount+ has always had the CBS shows on the CBS local channel and yes with commercials. What they are doing now is releasing the OnDemand versions of the show which I believe they don't release until after the shows air on the west coast. And they will be commercial free if you subscribe to the ad free version of Paramount+.So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?

To each there own but I've found that Windows can't do much more than Linux can. Can't have everything.
For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.To each there own but I've found that Windows can't do much more than Linux can. Can't have everything.
I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.
For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.
