aiming the dish???

Over the weekend I hit the sides of my 2 dishes with the bagger on the riding mower...needless to say, I've since had no satellite service. I've got 2 Dish 500 dishes (110, 119 and 61.5). What is the recommended method to repoint these dishes to get my signal back? Is there a special tool I can find online that will find the direction they need to point if I put the information in that is displayed on the receiver after entering the zipcode? I need to get my service back and dont want to drop $100 or more on a service call to Dish. Thanks in advance.

If you can hear the audio from your TV turn it all the way up and before you loosen anything "tug" your dish slowly left/ right and up/down. The higher the tone the stronger the signal. After you figure out which way you need to go loosen the nuts just enough to allow the dish to move. On the dish with 110/119 you'll have to check back and forth. If its not possible to hear the audio you'll need a helper at the TV--a cell phone might come in handy here. Its pretty easy to do if you haven't knocked it WAY out of alighment. Good luck!:up

Good pointers so far.

Make sure the mast is plumb, goto the point dish/peak angels, verify your/set your elevation based on your zipcode, once locked in, then set the azimuth (left to right), VERY slowly wait a few seconds, and so on... no fancy equipment needed.

Plus, realize/figure out which direction the dishes spun when you hit them with the bagger, and turn them in the opposite direction. Once you get them back and locked down, use an indelible marker pen (or scratch a line with something sharp) to draw a 'tic mark' line between the dish mount, and the dish pole. That way if it ever happens again, all you have to do is line up the marks between the dish mount, and the pole!

Hey, we're talking about a DISH install, aren't we? My DISH installer had to borrow tools from me to pound my posts into the ground. The Primestar dish I installed myself for FTA is far closer to plumb than its DISH counterparts.

Repointing is all trial and error for me, but so far I've been able to repoint both the 500 and the one pointed at 61.5 when violent storms have knocked them around a bit.

I probably should redo the masts myself one of these days.

Of course if the mast truly is plumb, all those pointers are really good ones.

you can get a service call for far less than that:

call and enroll in the DHPP.
call the next day and say somethings wrong and you dont know what.
get your service call for $29 or $59 (depends).
call a few days later and cancel the DHPP.

its done all the time.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

I can't recall having encountered a local ad on Sirius, and I don't imagine it is any different on XM.

Both, and they just made it official with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

All DMA's now Western Arc

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Even if you are broadcasting old SD-only shows, I would think advertisers would still want their commercials to look good.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Dish should use both satellite and internet like they do now for all channels. Use either or or both.... like now but subscribers could choose something like internet only, or sat only, or both.
