Is anyone else having problems when they use the phoneline to pay their bill, add programing, yada yada yada.. It dials then goes thru the "Please wait - this may take a few moments". Then hangs up for a long time then says "EA 09 - Unable to connect to Dish Network at this time. Please try again later" I have reported this problems now three times and they keep giving me the same stuff. That they wont swap out the reciever becuase this is a problem with many vip 622's and the new one will probably have the same problem. They say they are working on it. But I have reported it 3 and 6 months ago. Here is a copy of the chat session:

Dish: Thank you for choosing Dish Network Chat Support. Please give me a moment while I review your technical Issue.
Dish: DO you currently have the receiver connected to a phoneline?
ME: that is correct
Dish: And do you have any dsl service?
ME: nope cable internet. I have tried several different phone cords even new ones and it still does not connect.
Dish: Go to the menu, and then hit the number 6-3, please.
ME: ok
ME: at diagnostics menu
Dish: Then go to connection and select that, please.
ME: broadband and phone ok
Dish: You have Ethernet hooked up to it as well?
ME: yep
Dish: The phoneline, is it standard service or voip?
ME: but it did it even when the etherenet port was on even enabled. Phone line is a standard service.
ME: sorry not enabled
ME: the ethernet port
Dish: Ok, now let's reset the reciever by holding the power button on the front of the receiver for 10 seconds, please.
ME: i have done this also with no luck. I have now reset the reciever.
Dish: Right, we are going to reset it and I am actually sending an authorization issue to the receiver as well.
ME: ok it has not come back online yet
Dish: Tell me when it has acquired signal and downloaded the program guide, then we are going to try to get to the interactive applications again.
ME: ok its online "Acquiring satellite signal"
ME: 1 of 5
ME: 3 of 5
ME: now just went back to 1 of 5
ME: now jumped up to 5 of 5 and now its getting programming
ME: still there?
Dish: Yes sir.
ME: ok thought i lost you there for a moment
Dish: No, just waiting for it to acquire.
ME: ok. if we have to swap out the reciever how much would it be to get a 722 instead of a 622?
ME: or could i just get a 722 sent to me?
Dish: 1 moment. Actually for this issue, since the receiver is dialing out and removing the access fee on a monthly basis, we would replace the box for the problem, but gather information for our engineering to department to resolve via software update. But let me get the pricing for a 722 for you as well.
Dish: It would be $75.00 with a 24 month commitment and credit card qualification.
ME: ok thanks. Could we just swap out the box?
Dish: You want to upgrade to the 722?
Dish: nope just swap out the box for another 622 I will probabily upgrade later on.
Dish: No sir, this is a known receiver issue we are having with this receiver, if it is still not working after what we have done, I need to get some information from he system info screen on your receiver to give to our engineering department.
ME: if it is a known reciever issue why is nothing getting done to fix it. I have reported this problem before long time ago and nothing was done. If they wont replace my reciever they need to get off their butt and fix the issue.
ME: or i will switch networks. This is making me not happy
Dish: Have you tried it again, sir?
ME: yes and nothing
Dish: Ok, can you press the menu button twice on your remote, please?
ME: ok
ME: in the system info screen
(24DrDcb) Jerry D: Can you give me the Roo, S19 #'s, and the software version.
ME: (Edited) Sent them ROO & S19 number and software version. If they don't get this problem fix I will be canceling my service and going over to direct tv. I am getting mad everytime I call in or chat with someone they give me the same line and have me give them the Roo and s19 #'s and the software version and nothing gets done.. HAVE THEM GET IT DONE!!!!
Dish: Sir, I assure you we are working on the situation and will do our best to get it resolved as soon as possible. Can I help you with anything else today?
ME: yea when 30 years from now. I will try in two weeks and if its not fixed I will be canceling my service. I am paying good money to you guys and why should i be having problems.
ME: and you wont swap out the reciever.
ME: I pay for that service also.
Dish: Because the replacement would most likely have the same issue. You pay for programming, but the customer support application is a free service, so you are still getting everything that you actually pay for sir. But, I definitely apologize for the frustration.
ME: Well its been like 3 and 6 months and reported the same problem and still noting. What do they do all day drink coffee and sit around and do nothing. Have them actually do some work.
ME: yes i am very mad right now.
Dish: I assure you they do sir. May I help you with anything else today?
ME: nope but tell them to fix the damn issue or i will be leave you guys.
Dish: Thank you for being so co-operative throughout the chat session and also for providing me an opportunity to assist you today.
ME: I will also be e-mailing the CEO on this isssue.
ME: Thanks
Dish: I assure you as well, he is very aware of all known receiver issues we are having at this time. I am very sorry, and we are working on the issues.
ME: thanks bye

"Have them get it done". Yeah, right. They tell the CSR what to say and do, not the other way around.

What, did you think you were talking to Charlie Ergen or something??

I did send him an e-mail about this and I hope it got thru to him. It is making me really  I normally pay my bill thru the website but sometimes to most of the time its usually down or really slow. So my second option was going thru dish interactive when I had my 522 but since I got my 622 it has not been working. Then if I have to use the CSR to do pay my bill on the phone it costs money for what I have no idea why. Some way to get some more money. Sorry just getting it off my chest. I hope the CSR sent the whole chat session to the right department. I am not going to pay over 120 dollars for people to drink coffee and not do anything. We sometimes have this same issue where I work and I can fix it (When it goes down) in two to three hours and it takes them almost a year. Sometime really wrong with that picture.

No problem. sorry for being a smart-ass.

Let you on a little secret. Most of us techs don't care for the 622 that much. The 722 is a stud, the 622 not so much.

I had a similar problem when I added a VIP 211 to my account. I was never told about the 24 month agreement but was aware of the $75 upgrade fee. When the installer tried to get me to sign the agreement, I refused. I later called customer service and argued with Manila to no satisfaction. I repeatedly called until I reached someone in the US. The woman I spoke to was very helpful, listened to me, and asked her supervisor to waive the commitment. I requested email comfirmation the agreement has been waived and it showed up while I was still on the phone. If you like the service, I suggest you keep barking....to someone in the US.

That's a HUGE problem with DISH. They only care about the newest models out there, period. Had major problems w/ my 622. Kept telling me it's a known bug and they're working on it. Never offered to replace it, despite the fact that I was paying for DHPP.

As soon as I got fed up and called to cancel however, then they start telling me that "Oh no, that's no a known bug, we'll have you a new receiver tomorrow!". That infuriated me to no end. When I complain they don't care, but when I call to cancel they do!

Did that with no luck at all. That's why I finally said "I'm sick of the arguing cancel my account now. Three techs said the reciever will be owned. I don't like being lied too. I had enough of it at my other job. Cancel my account and I don't want to see the early termination fee on my CC or you will hear from my attorney. Then call to verify that it was taken care off and the termination fee was taken off. Got the India call center. OMG I could hardly understand the person. Finally I told her to transfer me to the US. She told me that they were closed. I told her don't give me that &%^&%^&%^&. Transfer me now!!!! So she did and talked with a nice gal that I could actually understand. She had to dig deep within my account to see that the early termination fee was waved. She also found out that I don't have to return the LNB's for my Dish 1000.2 but going to return them anyway to satify them. Cause they will probably charge me for them saying I didn't return them because they don't know how to look closly at the notes (Kindergarden antics goes all the way )

I'm really tired of DISH and their phone line BS. When I got my 722 I thought I'd be rid of the phone line once and for all... but I was wrong. Certain features, and I believe the bill paying feature is one, that can only use the phone line and will not use the broadband connection even if attached!

So technically, for all features of my 722 to work properly, it requires BOTH the phone line and the broadband (Internet) connection!

That's just idiotic.

Sounds to me like the OP has a bad attitude and was just looking for something to gripe about. If Charles Ergen himself came to your door to deliver a replacement receiver you would have found something wrong with that.

It's a satellite receiver and a DVR, not a computer game. The interactive stuff, if it works, is just a bonus. If it doesn't who cares. It's faster and easier to just pay your bill online anyway.

Prediction: you won't be happy with DirecTV either.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.

When you need a battery, you need a battery.

If you can wait, new technologies are on the not-too-distant horizon.

You're probably doing something wrong if you're only getting a year out of an AGM battery. Heat and infrequent charging both significantly reduce lifetime.

Huh? How can I be doing something wrong.....I took out the original battery, that was 6 yrs old and put in a new one.....kinda hard to screw that up. I figure it was just a bad battery....it happens.

The biggest takeaway I got from this video was the Walmart batteries only had something like 85% of battery life left even though they were brand NEW. The ones from O'Reilly all tested 100% of life left.

And the Walmart ones mostly had very little warranty.

My last AGM (using now) I got from O Rielly's, its the Super Start ... I got the Platnium, they had several to choose from.

He sounds like he's trying to sell me a pocket hose.

I just had to replace a car battery this week and thought I'd look into LiFePo4. Amazon has plenty of them, but all have top posts and only one 'also' has side connections (Group 75).Then I read that they're really lousy in the cold. So, an AGM, but again, almost nothing with side terminals instead of top. In researching that, I read that most mfrs in recent years have dropped side terminals and gone back to the old top posts, which is surprising to me since those are more corrosion-prone, cause the battery to need more space and are generally more hazardous. Finally I just threw up my hands and bought a regular lead-acid at Sam's Club. They had a Group 75 "Duracell" with side terminals only. It was virtually the only such battery with side posts on their shelves

Had a Die Hard in my folks cellar for over 6 years. Pulled it out, slapped it on a charger for a day. Put it in my 'Cuda and drove it around for a week of my vacation. Next year, the same. But my dad kept it topped off for me.It was a mid 80's battery in early 1990.

Flooded acid batteries like a float voltage of around 13.5-13.8 voltage.
AGM needs a float of 14.2 volts. So if you slap an AGM in where a flooded was. It never gets a full charge.
"Why do they die so fast?" Question answered. There are folks who sell voltage regulators for alternators that are designed to boost float voltage for AGM batteries.
The other way around? Flooded will gas-off a little at 14.2 volts. But seems to tolerate it pretty good.

Lithium car/bike/atv batteries. After 3 batteries in my Harley. The OEM flooded and two AGM's (before the 14.2 volt float requirement to let them live was learned). I bought a lithium for it. 4 year, no gripe warranty after having it tested by an approved store.
The thing started like Thor himself sent a bolt from the sky. Except......try to start it around freezing? Nope. Needed a heating pad.
And I usually like to park it around events in the evening with the parking light on. Looks cool like that.
We could traipse around for a few hours no worries. Hop on, fire it up, and go putt around.
Lithium? A Dakota Lithium at least. The BMS shuts it right down if it discharges below <something>.
Come back. Parking lights off. Won't start. And you know the rest. But it lasted 6 years. A lot better than 'new every two'. And the fact that powersports batteries are warranted for six, maybe nine months. Ludicrous.

I called Noco. Asked all of the right questions. Great warranty. Save some bucks ordering directly, faster service that the wally world alternative.
They addressed (or claimed over the phone) that the shut down was addressed. Sure. The BMS keeps it form being damaged. But if it is shut down because it does become low. Shut down any load (key on, parking or headlights left on) for 10-15 minutes and you get a second try to start your rig. Not a bad thing if it really works. Right?!

Exide, Interstate? Be very afraid. They ain't what they used to be. In Florida my '70 Cutlass had an Interstate (early 90') that lasted 6 years until it dropped its plates at an intersection and boiled over. In Florida, mind you. The last Interstate.....done in 2. Guys down there would suck out the acid and put water in shortly before the warranty ran out. Make it to the auto parts, get them tested. And get a new one pro rated. No more pro rating.
You can't beat an Odyssey. Napa, AC Deco (the better ones). Yup.
The mom and pop Car Quest only sells Die Hard. For a reason, the old man says. So they convinced that a Die HArd Platinum was the hot ticket for me. l will see. Stand by!

You can't cut Mr. Project Farm down. He does great tests of all sorts of things. Not sponsored and pressured to slap a little sugar on his comparisons and reviews. Compared to the Brits and Aussies with their constant overzealous and same sounding (Dave from EEVblog) rant. I like P-Farm a lot. Of course I like AvE (Boltr) too.
Reminds me to beware when wearing shorts around the garage vice.

Opinions may vary.

And the Walmart ones mostly had very little warranty.
The days of the 84-month warranty appear long gone, regardless of brand or where you acquired it. Warranties tend to be shorter, with much greater dependence on quick prorating.

The big problem for lead-acid batteries (whether flooded or AGM) is that the US no longer produces lead (the last smelter closed in 2013) and must import it.

Recycling covers a good chunk of the need (~70%), but it isn't free.
EarDemon
I've always got regular OEM Ford Motorcraft batteries from the dealership and have never really had an issue. On my old Lincoln Aviator (the SUV from the early 00s, not the CUV of today), I had some phantom drain and went though a few batteries, but that was an anomaly and with the standard warranty I got free replacements. Taking the Aviator out of the picture, I've bought two batteries in my 24 years of driving. One battery replacement in my Mountaineer, one in my Navigator. But I probably would have had another one had I kept it around longer. Didn't have the Bronco long enough, and so far still on the factory battery for my Expedition.

I run more than the average bear. Dash cam, two radar detectors (yes, I'm aware that can be problematic when using simultaneously), laser jammers and a police scanner. I'm in Buffalo, 90 degree summers and 0 degree winters. Once in a while in the dead of winter I'll get an alert from the Ford app saying remote features have been disabled to conserve battery, but it starts right up.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I think they are actually discussing the Top 8 get a Bye this time, if they go to 24.
Then again, I heard something about Play in games for the 16-24 teams ...

Nothing is official yet, so lots of moving parts ...

Can't wait, lets do 24, 3 years later they will want 32 :sick

While the bye can help the top four teams and those the Cartels would like to protect in the playoff, I think the bye is also about making the Cartel championships mean something. One problem with a playoff is it does diminish the conference title a bit.

Once the 24 gets here, there won't be anymore Conference Championships .... or so they say.

Oh what the hell, we really don't need Conferences anymore either ...:coco:(

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

And the same reason why DISH removing satellite 118 for international channels is a bad idea as at least in my case, TVB Jade World costs $29.99/month and depends on a internet connection for the signal transport to the DISH Hopper 3 + Hopper Plus to stream the channel which makes it unavailable on DISH Anywhere and also I am providing the transport pipe at my own expense when it was supposed to be a dedicated connection via satellite between DISH and the DISH equipment.

Why didn't Charlie end up launching starlink
Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

most carriers do. that's why they send updates that slow phones down!! i buy unlocked phones no effect to me

I'm thinking of switching to DirecTV and wanted to know what equipment I should be asking for.

I'm wanting wired satellite due to that fact that I live in the sticks and there is no reliable, decent speed internet for streaming available.

What would be the correct equipment for three 4K tvs in the house?

I'm having trouble with the posit that StarLink is not available. You do not appear to be in an oversubscribed area

Why do you think you can't get StarLink?

I never said that Starlink is not available. The Starlink app shows obstructions for every category, so I have not researched it further.

If they are requiring all clients on a new HS17 install to be wireless, that is not a technical requirement. It saves their techs from having to pull coax all over the house. It makes installations cheaper.
Jimbo
The DirecTV order entry work flow doesn't allow wired clients with an HS17. Does that clear it up for you?
Yet the C61k (4k unit) was wired only ?
That was the only unit available for the HS17 if you wanted 4K

How does that work ?

Or do I havwe that flip flopped ?
It's been awhile for me now.

I think Dish might be the only service that still wires houses. The cable company has gone wireless, Verizon is switching all their copper line customers to wireless, DirecTV Stream, even most surveillance and alarm systems are going wireless.

And I'm guessing they've been that way for quite a while. The future of DirecTV is no wires. Actually, the future of DirecTV is probably a merger with Dish, and IMHO if Charlie is smart he'll use the DirecTV brand.

why not just do a rebranding of the two :what

As they pivot away from using dishes and more toward streaming, the DirecTV brand would make much more sense.

Yes mine was wired years ago. However you can still order satellite service with wired receivers on the DIRECTV website. I guess you cannot if you call to order the service.

I would take an HR54 over a HS17 ANY day of the week ... The HR54 Looks like a recvr, works in your set up fine ...
The HS17 is a large triangle that looks stupid in your equipment, often they try to Hie in behind something ... just a poor design over all.

If you got an HS17 they Forced you to give up you Stand alone Recvrs ... just a poor idea ...
I had my HR54 to the end, along with my HR24's ...

At least I could still enjoy D* when traveling in the Motor home when I kept the HR54 set up at home, as well as at the lake.

It's not a poor design when you factor in that it has a Wireless Video Bridge built-in. It's shaped like a router or gateway for a reason.

We're a DirecTV retailer and there is no where in the order entry flow to have wired clients with an HS17. I heard that when it's ordered on the website the installer shows up with only HS17's and wireless clients. I don't know how reliable that info is as it came from a dubious source but it makes sense.

Yeah that would not surprise me but they do have the option on the website for wired installs. I would guess when they show up with wireless clients most people won't object. I would but a lot of people probably would not.

Well, different strokes and all that. I've had that HS17 sitting quietly doing its job for almost a decade. As I mentioned earlier, at one point I had two wired and two wireless receivers. Now, just one C61K.

Even before that I had a HR44 with an HR24 and two wireless minis. Back then, which was years ago, I would have agreed with the need for individual receivers, but at this point, I stream almost everything, including shows I used to record.

It'll be moot soon enough anyway. Wired receivers/DVRs are going the way of the POTS landline. You can't stop progress.
