I know that there is already a "Trade Rumor" type thread out there...but when it involves quite possibly, one of THE best hitters in our lifetime, then it merits a thread all by itself. Down here, the sports talk radio is all abuzz about Manny coming down. IN FACT, most think it's a done deal the only thing that is left to be worked out is the issue of Manny waiving a clause in his contract about the Marlins picking up his option for next year.

...all I can say is....WOW!! IF this goes through, with all the arms coming into form for the Marlins, they HAVE to be considered the team to beat in the NL East.

...WOW!

Sources: Red Sox discussing deals to trade Manny

Updated: July 31, 2008, 6:43 AM ET

With the trade deadline looming, the Boston Red Sox are engaged in serious conversations to trade Manny Ramirez to the Florida Marlins, as well as other teams, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

The deadline to trade players without going to waivers is Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. As a player with 10 years in the majors and five with the same team, Ramirez has the right to veto any deal.

The Ramirez trade conversations are expected to continue into Thursday, a source told ESPN's Peter Gammons. Because it's a very complicated deal, involving a player who has the right to veto the trade and other parts, it is still unlikely to happen. But the negotiations will go on.

"They haven't asked me for anything," Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com's Enrique Rojas on the phone from Fenway Park before the Red Sox-Angels matchup on Wednesday night.

"The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me," Ramirez said. "During my years here, I've seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them.

"The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy," Ramirez added. "I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don't deserve me. I'm not talking about money. Mental peace has no price, and I don't have peace here."

Still, Boston players weren't convinced Ramirez would be dealt before Thursday's deadline.

"I think around here there's a lot more smoke than fire. If something happens, it happens," Boston's Mike Lowell said.

The deal might be a long shot, but Marlins president David Samson didn't rule it out Wednesday.

On his weekly radio show, Samson addressed reports the Marlins are discussing a trade to acquire Ramirez from the Red Sox.

"The Marlins always seem to be in the middle of everything," Samson said on WAXY-AM. "It takes two to tango. We're looking everywhere. We're making calls. We're getting calls. But we're not going to be stupid."

Asked specifically whether a deal for Ramirez was possible, Samson said, "I've always told you everything is possible. There are all sorts of crazy things. There's no way to say which trades are going to happen."

ESPN - Sources: Red Sox discussing deals to trade Manny - MLB

Now the REAL telling thing about the conversation with Sampson(heard the interview myself) is that is has never pulled punches. Whanever they have asked him about trades, and they weren't true.....he would falt out deny them and it was a done deal.....but whenever he has danced, shimmied and rope-a-doped around a rumor, you KNEW that they were up to something.....and that "something" would be in the form of a trade within hours.....

....stay tuned......;)

Can't see Boston winning without Manny. Got to admit though, this guy has become almost as big a distraction as Favre.

Let's see...like flopping his fat ass on a ball in the outfield in Angel Stadium and laughing about it? Like hitting a high fly ball to the outfield that could be dropped (As was the case by the Red Sox last night!!!) and just standing there looking at it instead of legging it out in case it got dropped? Oh yes...he is a REAL team player.

And, I am NEVER going to buy into his Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde Onfield/Offfield personas. Any a$$hole that decks his Director of Team Travel because he can't come up with 16 tickets on gameday and yells at him in front of everyone to do his job has no place in any MLB clubhouse in America. PERIOD!

I suppose that was all made up by Sox management, too?

Salsa,
I'm just curious, as a Marlins fan, why would you want Hanley Ramirez anywhere near Manny? When Hanley came up to the Sox in '05 he looked up to Manny. If I were starting a team tomorrow, Hanley Ramirez would be the first player I would pick. Why would you want to risk his attitude being affected by this loser?

TWO MONTHS....barely....You guys think he will have THAT MUCH influence on Handley Ramirez in a 2 months span....??!! AND, that was 3 years ago....THREE YEARS AGO??!! Thanks Bill. As you probably can tell by my posts, I do not wish to get confrontational with fellow posters. However, if there is one individual who can get all of my baseball bad blood flowing it is Manny. Plus his many defenders complelely baffle me.

Nonetheless, I respect the affection salsadancer7 has for Manny and I hope no harm was taken by anyone with my rather pointed post.

Ok fine, but that begs my next question. Why would a young contending team with a $21 Million payroll want to rent a guy they have NO CHANCE at resigning AND give up prospects?

Because they want to get paid to take him as a rental:

ESPN's Peter Gammons reports that the Marlins wanted an extra $2 million from the Red Sox above and beyond what Manny Ramirez was owed in order to complete a deal.
That's an especially absurd thought given that the Marlins are likely to take in more on revenue sharing alone this year than they're spending on payroll. If Ramirez is traded now, it might be to the Dodgers.
Peter Parker

No of course not. Every member of the Red Sox Nation has some fond memories of manny. But this as a complicated situation. He had antagonized management and the veterans on the team wanted him gone. Like everyone else i wish that this could ahve ended differently we will have less production from the third and fourth spots in the lineup now---or I think we will. But it may have been necessary.

Then again the Sox made the same arguments about a clubhouse cancer and unreasonalbe demands when they sold Babe Ruth. Hopefully this does not work out as badly as that.

DUDE...it is done ALL the time and they were giving up Hermedia, who until this year, had NOT lived up to potential and had a history of injury and minor leaguer that was NOT in their future plans. The Marlins minor league farms systems have been one of THE top 5 or 10 best in the majors. To have a bat like that and NOT GIVE UP the farm.....please, that's a no brainer.

I love this, it is amazing how much of this information is actually factual. Look, like I have stated MANY times over.....I have worked in sports media in a major market and 90% of all stories coming from the clubhouse is either a lie or partially true. You never get the full, completely truthful story.....period. Neither you, me nor anyone else know that "veterans on the team wanted him out" unless they looked STRAIGHT INTO A CAMERA and said it....or if we were there...and we weren't.

And if ANY Red Sox fan thinks they have improved by trading for Jason Bay, they are kidding themselves. Don't get me wrong, Jason Bay is a nice, good major league hitter....but he is NOWHERE near Manny's neighborhood. I could be wrong, but late in the season, when the Red Sox are in a dogfight and they are playing the Yankees, we shall see if Bay can hit above .400 against the Yanks like he did.

Amen Salsa. lets see what Bay can do against the Yanks and Rays in September. Crtical games against them in the end of august and september. Boston gave up the best hitter in the game, 21 million dollars!!!!!!!! http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/dodgers/article_2110682.php , a pitcher (something they need badly) and another outfielder for Bay. Horrible trade. Manny was a problem? I bet every other team in the league would love to have that "problem" in their batting lineup.

There appears to be a new DIRECTV Gemini OTT box, the C81KW-650.

The FCC listing is partially available, and a Geekbench entry confirms it uses an Amlogic S905X5, a solid SoC for a set-top box.

I also see 4GB of RAM, and the manufacturer is SEI Robotics.

Ok found a picture of the Box too on Reddit:

A new Gemini box for DirecTV streaming possibly becoming available in January of 2027? That would be welcome news.

I have been exploring leaving Dish DBS ever since a software update around Aug. 10, version H711 and now H712, is causing problems with IR signals and the Dish Hopper 3. As a result my Sofabaton X2 universal remote no longer works perfectly as it did prior to the H711 and H712 Dish Hopper 3 firmware updates.

I have been a little leary of the current hardware available for DirecTV streaming as the Gemini Ospry box fits my needs, however they are getting a little long in the tooth and finding the 4GB RAM (SKU: 60233) Osprey box complete with remote and power cable is somewhat challenging. I see that the 2GB RAM Osprey boxes (SKU: 60164) can be found on Ebay and at Walmart online used, however a 4GB Osprey box is preferred.

Now I wonder if I should just wait it out until the new Gemini box for DirecTV streaming becomes available. I want a box with an Ethernet port and the Gemini Air is WiFi only. If the new Gemini box does become available in January of 2027 will it be lease only via DirecTV or will we be allowed to purchase them?

I appreciate the reply. My wife will be using this as well so a numeric keypad to change channels that actually works is a must and I want it to have a hardwired Ethernet port so that leaves the Gemini box as my only real choice.

My guess it is like the 2 previous boxes where you can turn it off/on but requires a reboot once you make the change for the change to take effect. Not sure if there is some limitation in the hardware that won't allow it to change automatically to what is in the content like other devices do. Even DIRECTV satellites own C61K changes on the fly.

I only noticed that as a problem on TVs that handle HDR poorly. They don't have enough peak brightness or enough dimming zones. For instance, TCL makes three lines of TV, sort of like the old Sears model of Good, Better, Best. On my 4 or 5 year end low price model, HDR looked awful (My neighbor likes the TV now). The midrange model from the next model year ithat I have at my Lake home now looks pretty good in HDR all the time. The midrange TCL QM7 model from last year at my other home looks spectacular, as I remember. I haven't seen it for 6 months.

If I had a TV that does HDR poorly, I would configure the Gemini to disable all HDR.

I agree with that. The 2 LGs that we have Gemini's on looks far better with HDR enabled then it does with HDR off.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Ratings for streaming content is extremely accurate, since the service knows who is watching what and when, when we hit ok on our remotes.

Ratings for Broadcast/Cable shows has always been a estimate.

Now that I'm retired, obviously I have different health care insurance. I take 2 prescriptions. With my old insurance I didn't have to pay for either of them, now I do. It's not a huge amount but it led me to dig a little into the cost of prescription medications. I have been using Walgreens for the longest time. But what I found was that Walgreens price is 4.8 times more for one of my prescriptions and the other is 2.3 percent more compared to the lowest price pharmacy. If you pay for prescription medications you might want to have a look at trumprx and see if you can get a lower price.

I run them through several different providers to see who has the lowest cost

Usually it's Walmart or Sam's + GoodRx

Also...

You can also price them through the CareCard and WellRx apps.

Sometimes Amazon Pharmacy is cheapest.

I'm fortunate and don't take any medications. A couple years ago I had to take some antibiotics and used the GoodRx app. Went to Walmart and the person behind the desk knew me and told me to just buy them outright....the GoodRx price was a LOT higher. She said they aren't supposed to tell customers when they see they are being screwed.

Walmart and Sam's pharmacies have "zero rated" prescriptions lists where generics are $4 (or less). If yours are on that list, then of course GoodRx isn't going to help. Also, GoodRx isn't always the cheapest discount program. For me, the cheapest is usually Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs.

My wife and I both take Gabapentin for nerve pain. With our Medicare Plan D plan it use to be free. Now we have to pay for it. Yesterday my wife got her prescription at CVS and the pharmacist dug around and got the cost cut in half with what he said was RX. I am guessing this was GoodRX.
