What bug is up HIS a$$??!! Talk about being an arrogant douche nozzle....

.....present the gold medals to Phelps??!! WTF??!!! Since when does he work for the Olympic committee???!!

Spitz: 'I never got invited'

Ex-swimming star 'a bit upset' about not being in Beijing

Mark Spitz says he is being snubbed as Michael Phelps takes aim at his Olympic record of seven gold medals in a single Games.

Spitz, who won his seven swimming golds in 1972 in Munich, said no one connected with the Olympics - not the International Olympic Committee, swimming's world governing body, nor NBC - has invited him to Beijing. So, as of now, he won't be there.

Spitz told Agence France-Presse in Hong Kong: "I never got invited. You don't go to the Olympics just to say, 'I am going to go.' Especially because of who I am. I am going to sit there and watch Michael Phelps break my record anonymously? That's almost demeaning to me. It is not almost - it is."

Spitz, 58, a stockbroker, said he would have liked to present gold medals to Phelps.

"They voted me one of the top five Olympians in all time," Spitz said. "Some of them are dead. But they invited the other ones to go to the Olympics, but not me. Yes, I am a bit upset about it."

That's why he has a reason to bitch a little. If they invited other athletes, they should have invited him.

Pornstache? No it was the seventies, everybody had 'em. :)

But he is bitching like he is entitled to be there because there is a chance his record will be broken. Do we know what were the circumstances the OTHER champions were invited? No....and I am sure there have been OTHER Olympic champions that were not invited and you didn't hear them bitch to the media.

sometimes, you guys are just unreal.

so let me ask you this? if you won 8 gold medals during an olympics remembered for 11 israeli athletes murded in cold blood, in which, you yourself was a potential target, don't you think you would hope tptb might have remembered and invited you to bejiing?

sorry, but your behavior about this subject is inexcuseable. maybe, you aren't old enough to remember that horrible 1972 olympics. i do. and given the fact that spitz is a motivational speaker, often invited to speak about the tragedy of the 1972 games, honoring the guy for his athletic fete might have been a nice touch.

but, then i guess you guys are as bad as olympic organizers and just don't give a rats behind!!

He won 7. And he is tied to that Olympics because of what he did and what happened and unfotunately for ALL involved, that is how it is. Ice, I am disappointed in th fact that you seem to think the Olympic committee owes him something because the tragedy of what happened took away his time to shine. Like Nixon to Watergate....unfortunately for Mark Spitz, he will be tied to that madness of what happend in Munich. Yes, Munich is brought up quite often when the Olympics are on....and truth be told, what happened in 1972 should NEVER be forgotten.....but more often than that, when ANYONE comes within a 3 golds of Mark Spitz.....he is talked about honorable.....so he always gets remembered.

The questioning to me was no big deal came out as ALL sports questioning does, EVERYONE that is great is compared to the greats of the past or present...."if you went head-to-head against -------------, who do you think would come out on top?" THAT is the type of questioning that sports media has be showing for the last 15 to 20 years. He was not made to look bad....he just sounded bad answering the questions....maybe he was not ready to answer question about someone good enough to possibly break his records.....who knows, but he was not boxed in a corner like a rat....he just came off sounding bad.

i didn't say the olympic committee owed him anything. i said i can understand why spitz thought he should have been invited to this years games.

funny, i learned many years ago that we all handle tragedy differently.....that none of us grieve the same way.

that being said, the way i have interpreted this thread is that some of you guys wanna remember this guy because he came across like an arrogant prick, demanding he should have been invited to bejiing.

i see spitz as the 22-year-old jew who hit the crowning moment of his career during the first olympic games held in post nazi germany. that the olympics were suppose to be an olive branch instead turning to a horrid tragedy that i pray never happens again.

sure, some of you will say the guy's a jew so he knew there were risks competing in munich. mark spitz was to be the poster child of everything that had supposedly changed in germany. but, although, his competition was completed during the terrorist attack, he was evacuated from olympic village for his own safety.

so, think what you want about him. i still have much respect for what he did in 1972!

WOW!! Who peed in your Wheaties??!! NO ONE is REMEMBERING HIM as a "prick"....in THE INTERVIEW he is COMING OFF as...and again, we will use your word..."a prick"! I cannot take ANYTHING away from the fact that he was one of the most amazing athletes of our time....but he was an arrogant jerk in the interview. You would think he is bigger than the Olympics.....he was THE redeeming light, so to speak, of a tragic Olympics....The Olympics does not owe him nothing because he got what was owed to him due to his amazing performance.....7 gold medals! Nothing more and nothing less.

I got to agree here. What were they supposed to do? It wasn't written in stone that Phelps would actually accomplish the feat. (Witness the close calls in two of the races). If he wanted to be there, I'm sure a phone call to the US Olympic committee would have provided him with tickets and who knows what else he needed. Or maybe Phelps should have called him and said " I'm going to obliterate your records, so here's some ducats and an airplane ticket so you can put the medals on me!" Salsa's right about one thing for sure - Spitz is going to benefit all over again in endorsements, etc....He's back on page one, what else does he want?

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

They didn't sell many, they were pricey and not out long. Quickly got replaced by the Hopper.
T
They were high-end specialty, somewhat buggy and the 612/622/722 just overwhelmed it in popularity.
HipKat
I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.
