I have a problem with my CM4228 and CM7777 pre-amp combo.
I just installed the CM7777 tonight and lost all signal in the process.
I have a 4-way splitter installed after the power source and the CM7777 at the CM4228 support pole 30' in the air at the top of my home. I am using the splitter as a way to distribute to OTA signal to 4 different HD TVs in my home. Prior to the pre- amp install I did have a decent signal but enough pixellation and periodic signal loss to be irritating. That was the reason for the addition of the pre-amp.

Once I installed everything I had no signal. Then I started trouble shooting the problem. All my cable connections are good. With only the power source connected I seem to have a slight improvement in my picture and signal strength.
Once I connect the CM7777 pre-amp I loose everything. I took the cover off and made every adjustment available (single, comb, FM trap) to see if that would help.
Each time I could not get a signal.

I have stations varying in distance from 25 to 60 miles that can be received in my area zip code of 32221.

TIA for any advise...

You still just don't get it!!!!

Is analog terrible because of snow (weak signal ) or because of multiple overlpping images on the screen (multipath)?
No Static At All
Or is it more like squiggly lines and herringbone patterns?

I just read about someone with a similar pre-amp situation in another forum. Here is the response that was given by a certified engineer.

"You have a large number of fairly strong LOS stations that can cause intermodulation noise in the high gain CM-7777. This can desensitize certain weak channel positions.

One of the medium gain W-G Preamps would be better, such as AP-8700:
http://www.winegard.com/offair/pdf/Chart29.pdf
http://www.winegard.com/offair/preamps.htm

In addition to improving overall sensitivity (typ 10 dB), the Preamp will
also overcome loss in coax, 4-Way RF Splitter...and tuner Noise Figure"

Excuse me? I've stayed out of it for a few days and you're not any closer to resolving it. Before you continue to give him bad information you might want to look up the specs for a CM4228 antenna. It's UHF only so there's no point in even addressing any VHF issues. In fact a better choice for a pre-amp would have been a CM4775 (UHF only). More pertinent questions might be:

Are you running RG6 coax cable?
Do you have the antenna coax connected to the UHF/Combined connection?
Is the Combined switch set to "Combined"?

It might be more helpful to ask under what conditions he experiences those dropouts. For instance, if there is any kind of aerial flightpath anywhere near his LOS he will experience dropouts and there is nothing that can be done. It's an inherent failing of digital broadcasting. If you really want to help the guy ask pertinent questions and spend less time trying to be king of the hill.
No Static At All
I know the 4228 is a UHF only antenna; but many users do have luck with HI-VHF on closeby stations. I personally don't prefer bowtie antennas. They can be great performers; but are very environment specific. They just don't work well in high multipath areas.

As far as not having the problem resolved yet; thats up to Steve. He is agressively trying different things to acheive results he deems satisfactory.

I still stand by my original conclusion of amplifier overload. The antenna choice may need to be addressed also if no resolution is reached.

You were commenting on how I was referring to strong signals; then weak signals. Many areas(like Steve's) have a blend of strong and weak signals. If you want to receive the weaker signals; you must avoid any kind of over-amplification. The weaker stations will be lost; not the stronger ones. I personally use no amplification, and still experience a slight amount of overload; which is controlled by careful height adjustment. My results far exceed my expectations. Experimentation is the key.

Getting great reception is more of a challenge for some than others. It's great that you are getting good results with the CM 7777; but it isn't going to work for everyone. I have used the 7777 at different locations; but my experience with signal levels like Steve's has not been positive. It is an excellent pre-amp under the right conditions.
No Static At All
Jeepguy,

As far as the RG-6 cable goes; that is an excellent question. I've already had some dis-agreement about RG-59 vs RG-6 with others on this forum. IMO, UHF or higher frequencies are a much better bet with RG-6, and in some cases, RG-11. I would never use RG-59 for anything except VHF only, or a very short cable run with UHF. The small cost difference isn't worth the gamble of the higher db loss penalty inherent to RG-59 cable.

Jim - I think my problem may be multipath from what I have read on it.
I am experiencing what both you and No Static At All has described.
When I am on the HD channels the picture is great as a rule but I do get a lot of drop and and minor pixels. They just don't last long.

I have ordered the Channel Master CM 3414 Distribution Amplifier (CM3414) to use vice the old splitters that I have now. I also have a couple CHANNEL MASTER 7270 Attenuator UHF/VHF/FM 75 OHM on order to adjust the signal freqs.

jeepguy:
Are you running RG6 coax cable?

Yes to all of above.

No Static At All - a different antennae is out of the question until this one is broke. I will make this work the way I want some how.
I am anal that way. LOL:D

This is an on-going challenge, but I am learning as I go.

Thanks and I will let you know my future results.
I don't expect my new parts until next week some time.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Finished season 3 last night. Still one of my favorite shows.

Anyone else wonder if there might be something else going on with Callum? Seems to me he has too much access to Russian intelligence.

Great ending, but it ran in circles most of the season.

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

I'm on H713 on the Hopper and P15403 on the Hopper Plus. It shows internet connection issues and doesn't finish loading the various services. I see the "loading circle going around. Sometimes I get a message saying that the service is having trouble loading my content and to check the internet connection.

Did it ever work correctly before? Hard to say what the problem is. Usually for streaming, it will show the Dish logo with lines sweeping down to show downloading, never seen the circle issue. Did you try a manual reboot, red button reset, power cord unplug/replug to see if it makes a difference.

Might be worth just to ditch the hopper plus. No issues here on h713

Buy a roku and dump the hopper plus you'll be better off. If you have a smart tv you don't need either one. No hopper plus here and no issues!!!

Monday 11/2 is a full slate for NBA League Pass as all 30 teams are playing and 14 out of 15 total games are on NBALP. Only one national TV game on Peacock/NBCSN (Thunder @ Cavs).

DirecTV is even having to use several MLB EI channels (from 745-748) and a NHL CI (770) channel to fit all of them in the guide close together. 5 games at 7:30 ET, 3 games at 8 ET, 2 games at 8:30 ET, 1 game at 9 ET, 3 games at 10 ET. Luckily NHL CI is light on Monday (3 games on CI).

DirecTV is providing both broadcast feeds for all League Pass games except Hornets, Magic, Bucks & Raptors that night. These are all teams that have local broadcasts via a OTA channel which is on spotbeams and have streaming deals (DTC) that are not exclusive DAZN teams which DirecTV just signed a deal with (à la Spurs, Grizzlies, Cavs, Pacers & T'Wolves). Its also very common that we don't get Raptors broadcast very often from TSN or Sportsnet Ontario on League Pass.

Only the Knicks, Nets, Wizards, Bulls, Celtics, Rockets, Lakers, Warriors, Avalanche, Sharks and Bruins feeds will be using remaps of 24/7 RSNs that night. The rest will be relying on the part time feeds, including the Nuggets, Blackhawks and Kings who will be on their alt/overflow channels, and MSG Western NY will be live on channel 635-1 to carry Buffalo area ads during the Knicks game.

The NHL Network alternate will be live on channel 215-1 with Red Wings @ Panthers for those blacked out of Golden Knights @ Bruins on the main feed.

The Thunder @ Cavaliers game will be on one of Peacock Game Pass channels that night for commercial customers, they'll also have the back to back U-Conn Women's and Men's Basketball. One of the part time feeds will also be in use for WWE Raw via Joe Hand promotions.

I could be wrong but the only RSN we dont have is NBC SN Philadelphia .
