I was on the phone last night for about an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my 501. After talking with the helpful (at first) tech for a while, we were able to trace the problems to old PPV purchase information becuase my receiver is not plugged into a phone line. There were two PPV's. The first one is one that was made over the phone and already payed for but is still on my box because it hasn't synced to the system to know that it was paid. I can understand that. The other event was som BS WWE prepay PPV that supposedly was ordered with the remote. I told them that there was no way in hell that I would of ordered something like that, I don't even like or watch wrestling. Not to bash wrestling at all, it's just not my forte. So, neither my wife nor me ordered the event, GUARANTEED 100%. So then I asked if it was possible for my 18 month old daughter to order it. He then said that it was not since there are about 7 different confirmations to do the order. I then asked to talk the supervisor. He came on the phone and gave my some snyde ass remark saying that, "We have hired engineers to get the receivers to order PPV on it's own, and it just doesn't do it." Im like, no sh*t Sherlock. He then continued to be adament about me being the only one to order the PPV. Another weird thing is that I ordered another game over the remote and the phone and already payed for it, but they couldn't find it in their system. Nothing was making sense at this point. I was getting angry, but kept my composure. The super then said that what he could do is remove the WWE PPV for me. He said that from past purchases that he could tell that we would not order WWE. He then immediately said the he is going to look at my account and do that. He came back 30 seconds later and said that the charges will stand. I then asked why 30 seconds ago he said that he will take the charge off. He replied that since i was disconnected once in the past couple of years that he would not do it. I then said something about me just purchasing $200 worth of equipment(6000) and that just because I have had one disconnection, that I have also been with them for over 3 years and that I have spent over $700 in equipment with them. He paused for a second and then came back with something I wasn't expecting. He said, "I know that you ordered the PPV with the remote, the CSR overheard you talking with your wife and heard her say that we ordered the PPV, and that we have it recorded that she said that." I was like, WTF! Now I know this whole thing is BS and they are just trying to get me to pay for this even though it obviously wasn't something that I ordered. So I then said, "no possible way that she said that, I was right there talking to her." I then asked for him to replay the recording so that I could hear her saying that. He replied, "I don't have to do that right now, and we do have it recorded." He then continued on ranting that I ordered it and I am lying and that the recording will stand up in court. I bet that they don't even have any recording and was just trying to come up with something the get me off the phone. Anyways, I hung up after he wouldn't discuss the situation anymore. I got his name and ID. I was so steamed when I got done. This makes we wanna go get Cable or D*. I can't believe that they would have supervisors that would argue disrespectively on the phone with customer and then try to pull some BS outta their ass about allegedly hearing something that my wife said. I have not ever had this sort of experience with any sort of service provider. Usually, if it doesn't look right or make sense then they do what they have to do to please the customer. Right now I am wanting to box everything up and sell it on Ebay. I could make a nice profit on the 6000 receiver. Anyone else have a problem like this or have a suggestion?

Thanks,
Brandon

It would not show up on the purchase info screen if the info was already sent from the receiver to dish when the receiver dials out. People can order by phone as well from your phone number but the extra $1 fee would have showed up on the bill. Sounds pretty suspicious to me.

You can have them lock out PPV availability at Dish Network. I have all my customer's receivers locked to prevent this from happening and ask them for a password for this like it is routine. I only had one customer contact me about problems with a high bill due to PPV's after that.

This is another one of those bad things about having a phone line connected to the receiver all the time, the change to have your bill ran up by PPV's and people ordering extra channels and features on channel 100. They do not always get locked out or the channel came along after I installed them so there is that possibility of issues and shutoffs as a result. Things like this is why I do not like phone lines connected. I already know what its like with Charter cable to have the ability to receive from the receivers as well, high bills because the teens run up the bills or someone punches a button by accident.

I told Dish to block any PPV and not allow any extra charges on my account. They did that and took a password from me. If I don't have the password they will not talk to me on the phone.

Was it called a PIN number? I used to try that for customers but guess what? It didnt work for gaining access to the accounts most of the time. It only worked every once in a while. This was a while back though so I hope it is working better now. Make sure they note your account that you locked your PPV's and that you will not be responsible for paying for any that shows up on the bill.

I've heard of cases where a neighbor orders a PPV with an RF-remote, and it gets ordered on your system, too (esp. in apartments). 'may want to disconnect the RF antenna on the receiver.
Stargazer
Or perhaps just change the remote address in your receivers to something other than 1 that way it would be a lot less likely to happen.

That's not really unusual. Cable companies like to the provide the box too. The phone company provided the phones in until the government forced them to allow third-party phones.

LOL. It depends if the person saw it during the years when they were actually still available which is 1968 to 1983 meaning the person could be 43-58 years old or they can even be a few years old if they learned to read and write at a young age and actually saw a telephone with that label somewhere recently just like even here in San Francisco, payphone still exist physically in public places but whether they can be used or not is a different issue. It still looks like this even today:

I opened my Radio Shack in Sept 1984 and right about that time they did the whole deregulation thing with the phone companies. I bought TONS of those phones that had been refurbished with a new outer shell. You could throw one of those out of a 3 story high window and it would still work.
That was an interesting time in history. I would have older customers come in and ask about phones.....they were terrified that they were going to get into trouble hooking up a second phone without the phone company knowing about it. One of the funniest episodes of WKRP was the one where Johnny thought the cops were showing up because they had an unregistered phone. I guess younger folks can't conceive of a time when you were limited to the number of phones you could have in your house....and limited to the length of the cord 🤣

That's one of those songs that hits a little too close to home for me. I like the song but just can't listen to it. It's kinda like that song "Daddy never was the Cadillac kind".....reminds me too much of my Grandfather who died Feb 18, 1995.

My OTA is not working anymore. This started after the latest update. I have the OTA dongle with a OTA antenna that I've been using for years. My hopper does not recognize the dongle anymore and when I go to the OTA setting, it has a screen that says to plug a dongle into the USB. I tried unplugging and plugging back, in the same usb port and other ports. The Hopper does not recognize it. Anyone have same issue?

Did you people having this issue contact Brittany yet? Shes trying to keep track of things and it would be good for you to contact her as maybe she can get this somewhere and get fixed.

Now while unofficial, I am hearing this issue wasn't caused by DISH's software team, but was caused by a chipset driver update that seemes to have hosed some older USB devices. If this is indeed the case I can see why DISH didn't know and why they are slow in fixing it as they need the chipset company to fix its drivers and release them to DISH so they can be pushed out to all.

DISH does not hate you guys nor do they want you to buy new USB dongles. I am rather sure they didn't even know this was an issue until they saw it posted.

Again contact Brittany if you are having this issue, so she has your info and hopefully she can do something for you to keep you happy. :)

Thanks, but until they do, can't Dish just revert to the old driver that worked? Then test the new driver when delivered,d before pushing it again.

But then what does an old CIO know! I've only reamed quite a few buttholes from my people that didn't do that! ;)

They can absolutely put the old driver back if they wanted. This is an embedded software environment in which they have total control. All they have to do if build a new version of firmware with the old OTA driver and test it of course. They just don't want to spend the resources doing so. If they are not going to continue supporting the single tuner adapter, then they have to say so.

Unless of course they didn't keep a copy of the old drivers and can no longer get it. Then there is always the their support for the product is EOL after a x amount of time so it will make the consumer have to buy the current product offering.

No updates but if you can get DISH Technical Operations to roll you back to H710 or earlier even though H708 would be best because it also eliminates another problem like in this comment, you will also no longer have the problem as long as you don't update manually or forced to any new version until the problem is fixed as the problem started in H711 and still exist in H712 and H713.

Installed an off-air antenna a couple days ago for a customer who had just cancelled his Dish service. He had a dual off-air adapter and gave it to me. Cool. I'll keep it on the truck....might come in handy. Got to admit I don't watch anything as far as live tv goes anymore. Even if we have severe weather, our local channels will have a live feed on Youtube.

In other news, it was announced that the software fix for the two tin cans and a string will not be forthcoming. A hardware fix is required. However, that fix will let you receive stations from a gazillion miles away.

Truck roll charges may apply. Two year commitment required.

DEATH TO NEXGEN!

17 years ago the US turned off analog OTA signals in favor of digital broadcasting. Now the push is ATSC 3 "Nextgen TV". But nobody seems to be able to agree on DRM implementation protocols. People don't want to hook their TV up to the internet in order to watch over the air TV. At least I don't. With all the data they collect about your viewing habits the box should be given away at no cost.

It's dead, they just don't know it yet. They killed it by forcing DRM on it, and that TOTALLY botched implementing it.

There is absolutely NO compelling reason for anybody to switch to ATSC3.0. They only want it as a total and complete money grab.
