Well, there would be a lot to do in 24 hours! Queen Sandra would rule...

1. NHL teams would go back to wearing white uniforms at home. That's what I grew up with. I still can't get used to the way it is now.

2. The Go away-Landers would go away. Forever. Move them to Ontario where people would care more. Or even Fiji.

3. The NHL would stop with the additional point for an OT or shootout loss. If a game is tied with 10 minutes left, you can turn it off and come back for the OT. Teams play it safe at that point.

4. NHL goalies would keep the equipment that protects them, but lose the oversized gloves and gigantic shoulder pads that only serve to block the goal.

5. Henrik Lundqvist would call me tonight.

6. College football coaches would stop complaining about the BCS system AFTER they think it has wronged them. They knew the rules back in August. If you have a problem with the rules, complain about it then. If Texas doesn't like the Big 12's tiebreaker system, lobby to change the rule in the Spring. But at that point, there is just as good a chance Texas would benefit from the rule next year, so they won't. This is like complaining Obama is going to be President because you didn't vote for him. You know the voting rules, live with them or lobby to change them.

7. All college football teams would play each team in their conference every year. All basketball teams would play each team twice. If that's not logistically possible, reduce the size of the conference. The Big East is a joke in basketball. It just doesn't even seem like a conference. Not enough familiarity with the other teams.

8. The venerable teams in each sport would never change their uniforms. Teams like the Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, Packers, Cowboys, Steelers, Browns, Celtics, Lakers, Knicks, and hockeys' original six should never alter their uniforms in a major way. The color the Celtics are wearing right now just isn't right. Who cares what players on teams like the Heat and the LA Kings are wearing? But leave the venerable teams' uniforms alone.

9. England would play a Premier League game or two in the US, just like the NFL plays a regular season game at Wembley. I'm thinking Man U - Arsenal at the Meadowlands in March. Nice.

10. A Canadian would convince me why the World Junior Championship is just as exciting as March Madness. I'm just not getting it from down here.

11. Anyone who proclaims soccer boring or whatever would have to go to a game at the Maracana in Rio, Old Trafford at Manchester United, Stadio Olympico in Rome, Azteca in Mexico City, Nou Camp in Barcelona, Ibrox in Glasgow, etc., before making such a statement. If you still think soccer is boring, your opinion would be valid. It's like telling people in England they really need to go to Yankee Stadium, Wrigley or Fenway before proclaiming baseball is just a sport where everyone spends 95% of the time standing around doing nothing. They do think that, by the way.

12. Chris Marlowe would go back to broadcasting AVP Volleyball on a full-time basis, not just on NBC's telecasts. And bring Paul Sunderland back with you. They were the best combo in any sport bar none.

13. Jim Hughson would become full-time play by play guy for the Rangers. I love Sam, but he's not Jim Hughson. I know he's the lead guy on Hockey Night in Canada, which is a lot more high profile than the Rangers, but if JD can move from HNIC to the Rangers booth, why can't Hughson?

14. The NHL would go back to when each team played each other team at least twice, home and away. This year's schedule is much better than last year's, but if the NBA can do it, so can the NHL.

15. Aaron Voros would call me tonight (Sorry Hank, I can't wait all life!)

16. The Jets will make a Red Sox-like turn around and start doing everything right instead of wrong for a change.

17. St. John's will become relevant again. Beating Notre Dame over the weekend was a good start, though. The Garden used to rock for the Red Storm.

18. Same thing for Princeton. Come back Pete Carill!

19. The guy who asked Rob Marinelli if he wished his daughter had married a better defensive coordinator would resign from the paper. Check.

20. Baseball would reduce to 28 teams, each league would then have an equal number. Pitching would improve around the league, as there just isn't enough right now. Who should they lose? I think the choices are obvious.

21. The Pro Bowl would go away. I don't really like the NBA and NHL all star games either.

22. NFL teams would have a team representative at cheerleader tryouts. Someone other than the brain trust that runs the tryouts and picks the teams. I'm not sure if the teams know what goes on at the tryouts. I tried out for two different teams and didn't make either one, and this is not sour grapes...I was not good enough to make either one. So many of the girls are such amazing dancers I don't understand why they're not on Broadway instead.

This may sound strange coming from a woman, but I think there needs to be male involvement from the team. Both times I tried out there were 4-5 women running everything, and they were beyond mean. If you're going to cut a girl, it's OK. There are 200-300 girls trying out, we can do the math and we know most of us won't make it. If you want to cut someone or tell them what they need to get better at, fine. But the personal attacks, especially when it's already been decided a girl hasn't made the team, were totally uncalled for. It was like they wanted everyone who didn't make the team (and perhaps even those who did, I don't know) to know they were not even close to as good as the evaluators (most of whom were former cheerleaders) were.

They weren't so bad to me...although it was implied I would be well-suited for another line of work. One where you wear a lot less clothes than cheerleaders. But that was nothing compared to what they told some of the girls. It was terrible. At the very least the teams should know what's going on, I have no idea if they do.

23. Derrick Thomas will make it into the Hall of Fame this year. He was one of my favorite players.

24. NBA teams would get reduced to one timeout each in the last two minutes of games. But they get to call for an advancement of the ball (like they would if they called timeout) to inbound in the frontcourt, anytime they want in the last minute. That's the reason for a lot of the timouts. Usually there isn't even a commercial, so it's not done for money. Too often it becomes tedious.

25. Everyone on the Satellite Guys forum would be nice to each other. Not worry about getting the last word in. Or get all flustered when someone has an opinion that differs from yours. Or go for the jugular when a person's team is down. Or talk down to each other. Or treat a difference of opinion like it's a battle that must be won. This is sports. It's supposed to the fun part of our lives. ;)

Had to get that off my chest...so to speak. :D

LMAO!

1 - OK

2 - I think Fiji is in the rugby loving part of the world, like New Zealand, South Africa and the more northern parts of Australia.

3 - OK

4 - Didn't we just do that post-"lockout" ?

6 - Correct. No team in the BcS cartel has a gripe, and no team that loses a game has a gripe. However teams from the non-cartel excluded conferences who go undefeated, such as Utah the true National Champions have every right to complain about a corrupt system that excludes them, and includes Cincinnati.

7 - The NCAA simply should reject the argument that the Big East spews out every year for its mediocre teams that the "lost to such a great schedule". Every year there are 3-5 Big East loser teams included and 1 to 3 more b***hing about not being included. The key word is LOSER. Cut the number of Big East teams that get in, and eliminate the NIT, and teams will fall away and find conferences they belong in. Really a football-basketball split is needed in that over-rated leaguel.

8 - Yes, yes, 1000x yes.

9 - Soccer is like a petulant child. Ignore it long enough and it goes away. The sport of the next generation. Four generations in a row.

10 - You know one thing I really dislike. TO Canadians (RO Canadians are generally nice folks) who pontificate about US NCAA sports. Contrast how the NCAA "mistreats" 18-24 year olds with the junior hockey system's treatment of 14-18 year olds.

11- Soccer is dull.

20 - Expansion to Florida and Arizona was a mistake. Imagine this system. Those two states, plus Clark County, NV, comprise a "special zone". The local FSN presents a package of games from all teams, and dish customers can buy whatever RSN they want on top of that, with the games incuded. And teams play a couple of series in the various cities every year. And, all of this revenue is shared, equally.

21 - All-star games are wonderful.

22 - I really do not understand the need for cheerleaders at the professional level.

The English are great ones to talk standing arround after all they invented Cricket.
Talk about standing around. You don't even have to run when you hit the ball unless you think that you will be safe.
I must be a lot older then you because I remember when the home teams wore dark sweaters at home before they changed it.

It's not the cricket people who think baseball players do little more than stand around. It's soccer fans.

No it was not. Having teams play in either crappy stadiums or forced to make sh!tty deals where they cannot make money because they have nowhere else to play have alot to do with it. But, hey....if I am not mistaken...you live in Florida right?

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

So after some heavy research, it looks like the issue I mentioned with the DISH 50.0/52.0/54.x remotes where on the 50.0/52.0 remotes, the dedicated TV Power button or on the 54.x remotes where it is using the TV button on the side followed by Power works correctly on a Hopper 3 which runs Linux but not on a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 which are Android TV (ATV) has to do with the Android TV software itself. In all instances, the remotes had always sent out a dual RF and Infrared signal when the TV Power signal is sent from the remote. The Hopper 3 without the Plus would ignore the incoming RF power packet signal which is identified as a TV-specific toggle event, and does not trigger a system-wide standby state. The Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 as Android TV devices initially worked the same way as well up to sometime in 2025 as there was the legacy pass-through mode in the original software versions used since the Hopper Plus/Joey 4/Wireless Joey 4 launch, the receiver's underlying software essentially ignored the secondary RF payload that the 50.0/52.0/54.x remotes blasted out whenever the TV Power signal was sent. The Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 recognized it was a TV-specific command and discarded the RF packet, letting the standalone IR signal do its job on the tv.

When the software for the Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 were updated in 2025 and newer versions of the software for those Android TV (ATV) devices, it overhauled how the receiver handles remote commands to tighter integrate the Android TV environment which resulted in the software starting to treat any RF power toggle payload as a global command. As the newer software verion(s) no longer filters out the concurrent RF blast from the 50.0/52.0/54.0 remotes, the moment one sends a TV Power signal from the remote, the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 catches that unintended RF payloadand interpets it as a command to drop the system into standby.

The fix is really simple since the Android TV (ATV) software for the Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 just needs to be programmed to drop or ignore the specific RF power packets associated with the TV Power signal sequence.

The problem could also be at the remotes firmware as the remote's firmware has an engineering defect. When you try to turn off the TV, the remote's internal code mistakenly triggers its RF transmitter alongside its IR transmitter. It should only be firing the IR light blast. Because it forces a simultaneous broadcast, the remote's firmware is the original source of the problem.

The Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey firmware has a filtering defect. Good software design dictating peripheral inputs should include "error handling"—rules that tell the system what to do with messy or unintended commands.
• The legacy Hopper 3 firmware has proper error handling; it sees the remote's rogue RF packet and safely ignores it.
• The Android TV firmware in the Hopper Plu, Joey 4 and Wireless lacks this filtering logic. It blindly accepts the rogue RF packet and misinterprets it as a legitimate signal to force the entire system into standby.

If the remote didn't have a firmware bug, it wouldn't send the phantom RF signal. If the Android TV (ATV) device being the Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4 didn't have a firmware bug, it would cleanly ignore the signal just like the Hopper 3 does.

That's a lot of information to ingest. However, I don't have the Hopper Plus and my 54 remote is doing crazy things to the Hopper 3. Several times each evening when I press the skip forward button several times to advance through a commercial, it switches the receiver either onto live TV or into suspension. Other buttons will also cause this randomly, I haven't established any patterns I can describe. I use "recall" to go back to my recorded program in progress.

Needless to say, something in the newer Hopper 3 softwares has caused the remote functioning to ......................malfunction. Evidently, it applies to third party remotes as well as DISH's own remotes.

This is exactly the same issue I was having as I had the Hopper 3 and 54 remote without the Hopper Plus and the symptoms were virtually identical to yours.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!
Thanks to all for your interest and replies...

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit :) )
cyberham
I used a 60cm Shaw Satellie dish (60e) with its original dual-LNB. It worked fine for 101W/97W or 99W/103W at that time when weather was fine. But the fade margin was small so rainy weather killed reception or almost so. But it was all free since they're so plentiful so I couldn't complain.
