Answer this question based on your team in which you are a fan of.

So far, I must say that the Greatest Team I've ever seen in Cleveland was without hesitation, the 1995 Cleveland Indians. As a matter of fact, this was one of the greatest teams I've ever witnessed, regardless of team affiliation. Needless to say, that summer of '95 was indeed memorable, despite the unfulfilled ending. Here's why...

  • 2nd season in newly built Jacob's Field. The start of a 455 straight sellout streak.
  • 100-44 regular season record, 1st place in the AL Central. Advanced to World Series, first since 1948.
  • 6 All-Stars: Carlos Baerga, Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton, Manny Ramirez, Dennis Martinez and Jose Mesa.
  • 2 Gold Gloves: Kenny Lofton (OF) and Omar Vizquel (SS).
  • 7 out of 9 players in the starting lineup hit .308 or above.
  • Team pitching ERA of 3.88. Only team in the AL with a staff ERA under 4.00.
  • Closer Jose Mesa had an ERA of 1.13 and 46 saves.
  • 6 guys with at least 15 HR, 5 with at least 75 RBI (Thome had 73).
  • 1st in BA, 1st in SLG, 1 in OBP, 1st in RBI, 1st in HR, 1st in Hits, 1st in Runs and K'd the fewest.
  • Clinched division on 123rd game of the season.
One of the scariest offensive lineups ever assembled. Notice Manny hit 7th!.....

Kenny Lofton- cf
Omar Vizquel- ss
Carlos Baerga- 2b
Albert Belle- lf
Eddie Murray- dh
Jim Thome- 3b
Manny Ramirez- rf
Paul Sorrento- 1b
Sandy Alomar Jr.- c

The bench:

Dave Winfeld
Jeromy Burnitz
Brian Giles.

A formidable pitching staff and bullpen....

Charles Nagy
Dennis Martinez
Oral Hershiser

Paul Assenmacher
Eric Plunk
Julian Tavarez
Jose Mesa

When all is said and done, 4-7 hitters will have combined for over 2,000 HRs, and include two of the four guys ever with 500 HRs and 3,000 hits.

Unfortunately for the Tribe though, we ran into the best starting pitching staff ever assembled in the World Series, ie: perennial Cy Young Award winners Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Steve Avery.

Final Note:

That season was very memorable to me and I cherish being a part of that team as a fan. Unfortunately though, that season was yet another lesson to me as a Cleveland fan in teaching me that nothing in life is a given.

For this reason I try and not get too attached to this year's Cavaliers team. However, if this '08-'09 Cavs team does the unthinkable and keeps this amazing season going and wins 65 games, they may enter the discussion. If they win it all, they will take over the discussion and I will have to modify my above answer. But for now, that '95 Indians team remains the Greatest Team I've ever witnessed as a Cleveland Sports fan. Thank you for the memories Tribe!

This is easy for me: 1986 Boston Celtics

Many say the greatest basketball team of all time.

The '86 Celtics had four members of the NBA's 50 greatest basketball players of all time: Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish and Bill Walton.

The team also had defensive stopper (and 5 time all-star) Dennis Johnson, and great outside shooting from guards Danny Ainge and Jerry Sichting, and forward Scott Wedman.

Absolutely this Celtics team was awesome! I would love to create some kind of mythical matchup of the '86 Celts and the '95-'96 Bulls. It would be an absolute treat to see those two dynasties trade blows back and forth.

And to think JUST DAYS after winning the '86 title the Celtics drafted, with the #2 overall pick, Len Bias (who was considered to be one of the greatest college players ever).................................but two days after the draft, he was gone. :(

Yes, tragic story indeed. :(

BTW, my Cavs had the #1 overall pick that year and selected Center Brad Daugherty.

Not to hijack this thread any further (GREAT topic, HD MM :up) , but that Cavs draft of 1986 has to be considered one of the best in league history.

IIRC, besides Daugherty, the Cavs got Ron Harper and Mark Price in the same draft.

As I'm sure you know, in the NBA it's hard enough to get one quality guy in the draft.............never mind three!

You're right. That draft was the building blocks to some very good Cavs teams in the late 80's, early 90's. Unfortunately though, we always ran into Michael Jordan and the Bulls who knocked us out of the playoffs on four separate occasions. The first and most notable happened in 1989. The Cavs were actually favored and were a perfect 6-0 against the Bulls in the regular season. The Cavs were considered one of the best teams that season. The Bulls took us to 5 games in the best of 5 series. The buzzer beater shot by Jordan has become known as "The Shot" and was one of the most dramatic sports endings in modern history. In retrospect, it also symbolized the beginning of a dynasty in Jordan's Bulls.

Recalling the play that lead up to "The Shot"....

Jordan hit a jumper with six seconds left to give the Bulls their first lead at 99-98. Following a Cleveland timeout, Craig Ehlo inbounded the ball, received a return pass, and scored on a driving layup to retake the lead with 3 seconds left, 100-99. Chicago then called a timeout.

Jordan was guarded by Craig Ehlo. To get open, Michael Jordan pushed off Ehlo, clearing the way for him to receive the inbound pass. Jim Durham, calling the game on the Bulls' Radio Network, narrates what happened next:

" The inbounds pass comes in to Jordan. Here's Michael at the foul line, the shot on Ehlo...good! The Bulls win! They win! They beat Cleveland Cavaliers! Michael Jordan hits at the foul line! 101-100! 20,273 in stunned silence here in the Coliseum. Michael Jordan with 44 points in a game hit the shot over Craig Ehlo. What tremendous heroics we have had in Game 5. From both teams, what a spectacular series this has been. In my days in the NBA, 16 years, greatest series I've ever seen. Superman was Superman and no one is going to talk about that missed free throw in Game 4 now!

Thus was the beginning of many woeful Cleveland sports moments for me throughout my childhood. :(

The sixties was such a sloppy mess that much of what we remember as having happened in the sixties actually happened in the early 1970s: most of the student strikes, CSN&Y, Watergate and Nixon's resignation, and a lot of long running TV shows.

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

What is the purpose of connecting Alexa and the H3?
I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

News about the tower's dispute-

So does this mean the churches and businesses that Dish owes back payments to are going to get paid now?

"
They note that the Dish Wireless radios at issue support the 2GHz and 800MHz spectrum SpaceX is acquiring from EchoStar and Grain.

"Buying compatible equipment already installed on towers could give SpaceX a head start on its wireless terrestrial network build and throw a big bucket of cold water on Verizon's four-to-six-year timeline and $300-$500 billion estimate for SpaceX's buildout," said the analysts."

Does that raise, or lower, the overall price? Our State Government has been doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the current situation and put a freeze on the State Taxes on fuel sales at the pump. That's why we're still under $4.00/gal. while across the border in Michigan it's much higher.
