I'm looking to setup a new motorized FTA system. Close to the house we have plenty of trees, but a few hundred feet out there is a great place that I should be able to pick up the whole arc. What is the maximum distance I can have between the receiver and the dish, and if I'm over it, can I amplify it? If I can amplify it, how many times? I'm probably looking at a good 300 feet or so.

I have two of these, fixed on 125 and 123 respectively. I'm about 65' from the house, and another 50' before it sees the reciever on RG6 copper clad steel cable. Using TechSat Tracker (redhead) II lnb's, they bolt right up. Give her a spin with RG6, and go with RG11 if you have trouble. That's a heavy dish/mount for a motorized setup, what are you going to use to move it.?

No static at all.

I probably won't motorize it to begin with. I might stick an LNB on it and see what I can pick up where it's at. The pole it's on now isn't going to be pulled up, the Primestar installer was very professional and it is very very well cemented. If that dish is too big/heavy to motorize then I'll just buy a new dish when I want to do that.

The trick with that is that buying a receiver and LNB is pricey to just play around, especially if it turns out that when I move it out to the other spot on the property where I have a better view it's too far out.

Does anyone remember where the primestar satellite was, and if there's anything there now? I can probably pick up a few degrees to each side of where primestar used to be.

A good and easy test is to build a moveable post on wheels or a skid. Doesn't have to be pretty, or even that plumb for location testing. A discarded Kids basketball stand cut down comes to mind. You can lay the cable on the ground to test for signal strength on a long run with one of your existing recievers, or pick up an ebay special for ~$25-35. An xtra reciever is also a decent troubleshooting tool. I'll be happy to send you a bandstacked FSS lnb that will bolt up to your primestar feedhorn for nothing. PM me if interested. That just leaves getting the cable and the time to do it.

I think it was pretty high in the sky for us>81,83degrees......you can prob hit AMC5, AMC9, AMC3, maybe more.

I might just take you up on your offer. Let me just get everything clear. With the FSS LNB you're offering me (and I'll cover the shipping cost), I can pick up Ku band stuff on say, AMC3, 5, or 9 as turbosat says are probably close by? And a standard FTA receiver should be good enough? Where the dish is now is probably a good 175-200 ft of coax, but we never had any problems with Primestar at that distance.

If I can get that going for now, it'll probably tide me over until I can get a motorized dish setup. In that case I'll probably leave the Primestar setup on one sat and switch in the motorized dish later.

we have a winner:

In my opinion, the only thing nicer than a 1.0 meter Primestar ... is the 1.2 meter Primestar.
In other words, 1.0 is very nice!

On the elliptical Primestars, you need to keep the old feedhorn with the dish.
They are well matched.
Then, you just bolt a different LNB to that existing feedhorn.

With the round Primestars, that's not such a significant matter.
So, if you choose to use a regular LNB, bolted in where that feedhorn is, you should be good.

But if someone is going to ship you a bandstacked LNB to bolt to your existing horn, your old feedhorn is serviceable, and you don't have a problem with bandstacked, then that's very hard to argue with! -

That's a lot of information to ingest. However, I don't have the Hopper Plus and my 54 remote is doing crazy things to the Hopper 3. Several times each evening when I press the skip forward button several times to advance through a commercial, it switches the receiver either onto live TV or into suspension. Other buttons will also cause this randomly, I haven't established any patterns I can describe. I use "recall" to go back to my recorded program in progress.

Needless to say, something in the newer Hopper 3 softwares has caused the remote functioning to ......................malfunction. Evidently, it applies to third party remotes as well as DISH's own remotes.

This is exactly the same issue I was having as I had the Hopper 3 and 54 remote without the Hopper Plus and the symptoms were virtually identical to yours.

We have had a corolary problem in this and the prior s/w. Using several different 40.0 remotes (yeah, we're old), when one pauses a live or recorded show it becomes a crap shoot whether it will step foreward the 30" as requested, jump to the end, or restart the episode. Tried the famous 60" reboot to no avail and have decided to live with it vs. a receiver swap risk.

I think there's a change to the "skip forward 30 seconds". With CBS that does not have auto-skip, if you stack up a bunch of 30 second forwards it seems to stop when the kangaroo signaling the end of the commercial break appears.

Also posted this in the 3rd party remote thread.

My Hopper 3 updated itself to H713 last week and the IR issue is worse now. On H711, I could be on an SD channel for several hours and the IR side of my H3 would still be responsive without my having to tap the View button on my Pronto Pro every 15 minutes. Now, if I stay even on an SD channel without tapping the View button at least once an hour, it becomes unresponsive to my Pronto Pro without tapping the View button at least 5-20 times, just like on the HD and 4K channels. So, H713 actually made the issue worse. :(

I've been having intermittent problems with Amazon Prime video programs loading using the H3 guide listing. I can get to the program I want to watch, but when I try to view it, it starts to load and then stalls. Eventually, a screen pops up saying "something went wrong, try again later". I've tried rebooting the hopper without success. Sometimes switching the HDMI input on my LG TV works, but not always. I don't have this problem on my phone or computer, so it is not a network or router issue.

I did a quick google search and found that this is a common problem associated with overloading or corruption of the data cache in the Amazon app and the solution is to clear the cache. Easy to do on a computer or phone, but I don't know how to do this on the H3. If anyone a solution or suggestion, I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Was raining yesterday so I went to Sams up in Dothan to stock up on some things. Haven't been there in quite a while. I was amazed at how large most of the TVs were. When I walked in they had a 100 in Vizio (I think it was Vizio) that was marked down to something like $1,200. The first rows of TVs were all in the 80 in + sizes. The next couple of rows had the "smaller" models....those 75 and under. I was amazed at how small the 75s looked when lined up with the larger screens.

Q-LED and Mini LED panels have improved the picture quality and the tv's are so thin and nearly without bezels now. I've thought about replacing the 75in 4k DV/HDR LED Sony in my living room with a newer 86in. That's as big as I can go without construction changes. I watch the 75in 4k DV/HDR Q-LED in my bedroom and the difference between the two is very noticeable. There's nothing wrong with the living room tv though and I don't now that I actually watch enough anymore to really justify it. I could move it out to the patio but the 65in Q-LED out there looks really good and I'd have to change the mount to accomdate a larger tv out there.

I'm at a limit for TV sizes at this time. My Father-in-Law crafted a custom entertainment center for our family room and we were restricted from going too big based on the side cabinets and central bridge fitting in the width of the room. It turns out to be where a 55" screen with bezels fits but no 65" bezel-less screen can fit. I think there was a brief period where 58" screens where a thing, but no more.

So, no huge screens for the Foxbat's…

And to think....I was SO proud of myself when I bought a 27 in TV in the late 80s. Everyone just had a 25 in so I was really in high cotton.

I've pretty much done most things in Ireland and I'm thinking about the other side of the Irish sea. I'm thinking about traveling to Wales this summer. My second choice would be Scotland. I don't want anything to do with London except maybe landing in Heathrow and then escaping quickly.

Any tips or experiences to share?
