Been using a SG2100 motor with my 90CM Fortec for a few years now, and it's been working fine, even when my whole dish got covered by snow last year (I was fortunate to remember to disconnect it from my receiver when it got covered, so that it wouldn't try to move until I dug it out).

However this last weekend, we got a big 22" snow, and although the snow wasn't a problem this time, the 2 day power outage (and apparently surges as it was going out) did a number on it. When the power came back on, I HAD been aimed at a sat near my due south, but couldn't pick it up at all. Looked at the dish, and it was looking at the western horizon. Told it to go to the sat again, still on western horizon. Told it to go to reference (zero), and it did. Told it to go to the sat 2 deg west of my south, and it went all the way to the west again (and I saw my channel come in and out as it went by). Basically any time I told it to go to ANY sat via USALS, it would go all the way to the western limit.

Went back to zero, and decided to try DiseqC-1.2 instead of USALS. Located 2 or 3 sats via DiseqC-1.2, but I didn't want to save them, because I have all the sats saved via DiseqC-1.2 on other receivers and if I saved them on the Coolsat 8100, I would have no idea of what DiseqC-1.2 sat number it used, since (like the dumb Mercury) it doesn't have full DiseqC-1.2 functionality, and doesn't have a useable channel editor.

Anyway, I was almost hoping that the problem was with the Coolsat, so I switched the coax over to my Diamond, but it wouldn't work on USALS either, so the problem was obviously with the motor, or the wiring to it.

I tried doing a software reset of the motor through the receiver, but that didn't help. Then I noticed that I could no longer go east of my true south, even though I had just done this 10 minutes earlier.... Then about 10 minutes later, I found that my east limit was again reset so that I couldn't go past about 2 degrees west of true south.

All these symptoms were starting to sound familiar to me, ie things I've read other SG2100 owners describe. I was starting to worry that this was going to be difficult to get this motor to work with all my receivers, however I finally decided to do a HARD reset by pushing a toothpick into the little hole on the motor (after getting it to as close to actual zero as I could).

Anyway, the hard reset seemed to fix everything. USALS is now working again. However this exercise reminded me of how several receivers are quite lacking with respect to DiseqC-1.2 functionality. I use my SG2100 with several different receivers, including my Twinhan, Fortec Lifetime, Fortec Ultra, Fortec Mercury, CS-8100, and Diamond 9000. I used to prefer DiseqC-1.2 as it made it easier to tweak positions since my motor's zero was off, and this worked OK with the Twinhan, Lifetime and Ultra, because after I'd save a sat, say AMC3 on sat position 27, then I'd go to the other receivers and just tell it to use position 27, and I'd be all set on all three receivers.

Then came the Mercury and the Coolsat. Neither of these receivers has an option to choose what satellite number is used for each satellite, or even know what satellite number it has used, and neither has a channel editor that allows it to be changed via the computer easily. My Diamond 9000 doesn't give access via the remote, but it has a nice channel editor that DOES give access to the sat number. With my Mercury II, I wrote a VB program that tells me what DiseqC-1.2 number is assigned to each sat, and I learned how to edit this list via a binary editor, so there is a workaround for the Mercury, although it is quite clumsy. However the CS-8100 doesn't seem to have an obvious workaround. Looks like some work on the data structure of the channel data file is in order. This proved to be relatively easy with the Mercury, but I'm not so hopeful with the Coolsat, mainly because I haven't had much luck even re-loading channel data that hasn't been edited, let alone channel data that HAS been edited, however I haven't really tried since I put this new 2025A version on the receiver. Hopefully channel restoration might actually work now, but I am not holding my breath on this.

But if the SG2100 has USALS problems again, and I have to revert to using DiseqC-1.2, hopefully I can store all the locations via my Coolsat, and hopefully I can figure out the data structure enough to figure out what numbers it has used, so that I can enter those numbers into my other receivers. All of which would be a LOT easier if these newer receivers had full DiseqC-1.2 functionality to the extent of giving you access to being able to choose satellite numbers like you can do with the Lifetime and Ultra.

Sorry for the rant, but this lack of DiseqC-1.2 capability is really annoying to me.

We received that dumping of snow as well, probably a little more that you say you got. I had to dig out my 90cdm dish which was a first, never had to do that before, snow is about waist deep here, drifts are much higher. I've had those SG-2100 weird issues as well, hard re-set seems to fix it most of the time, once it got stuck on the east side, a re-set did nothing so I took it inside and opened it up, couldn't see anything obvious out of place so put it back on the mast it worked fine. I'm not sure if there was a little moisture in there or if I jolted something back to where it should have been.
I don't have the Coolsat 8100 but I've read its channel list format is "bin". Have you tried to import your list file into Channelmaster under the Ariza receiver? It uses the bin format as well. You might be able to do something with that as far as editing your positions.
I enter the position numbers in Channelmaster for my Coolsat 5000 and it seems to work very well, although I noticed switch settings are not saved, or not exported back to the Coolsat 5000.
Clarke Tech has an editor called CtechEditor Studio that might be usable with the 8100. I believe the European Clarke Tech receivers are basically Coolsat receivers, or probably the other way around.

Re snow, yeah, we're up to the waist here too. Got my snowmobile stuck 3 times just trying to get TO my dish a couple days ago. But after previous snows this winter, I dug out around my dish to free the cables dangling from the lnbf, so this recent snow didn't block it. We've gotten about 110" of snow so far this season. Well above average, but behind last year. It's a good thing that most of it has compressed or melted. My poor dogs are having a hard time finding a place to go outside, since the only places they can walk are either the driveway or the places my snowmobile have packed down.

Re Channelmaster, I THINK that I tried several possibilies with the Coolsat files when I first got the receiver, but nothing worked, but I might try again. I also made a quick look at the bin files with a binary editor a while back, but that was before they changed the channel format, so I might try that again. I'll google the Ctech editor thing.
thanks.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

Obviously you didn't read my post.....google says a coffee bag weighs half an ounce. But let's say you are correct and it DOES weigh a full ounce, that would still fall 5 ounces shy for Walmart's numbers to match.

I can't BELIEVE this is being such a difficult subject. The issue isn't the price....it's the advertised price per ounce. A lot of shoppers, myself included, use the price per ounce in determining which is the better value....with that number being inaccurate, it can trick someone into thinking that one product cost less per ounce than a competing product. Is this a crime?...above my pay grade. Is it dishonest? Yes.

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Thats ridiculous ....

Thats not how Deli does it, I know your talking pre packaged.
They need to CHANGE that.
Jimbo
A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

I set a Timer for the Indiana - Ohio State game on Saturday. I'll take advantage of it while I can.

My Wife was recently in an antique store and saw a rotary desk phone and it had one of those sticker overlays that had a business listed with phone number under each number on the dial. She looked closer and it had my old Radio Shack listed under the 8...she bought it. Pretty cool keepsake. Back then I rented vhs movies as well so I had it listed as Radio Shack / Movie Gallery and then the phone number.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

I tried this with both the Hurricanes and Hornets since I'm in upstate SC, and wasn't offered any kind of credit by the site. It's not a huge deal to me as I can pick up WSOC/WAXN over the air at my location even though I'm outside the Charlotte market.

One thing these five teams have in common is that they all signed exclusive local streaming rights deals with DAZN, replacing their traditional regional sports networks.

I know the Spurs will have 22 games available OTA on KMYS-TV CW35 in the San Antonio market, but they'll still be available on DAZN as well. The CW35 broadcasts are an additional option, not an exclusive arrangement.

With channel 680 now available, we should be able to get all the Spurs home feeds on NBALP again! (as well as the other teams above of course)

In order to participate in any Cutting Edge testing, you must sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Attached are a .docx (Microsoft Word) and PDF version of the latest DirecTV NDA. I found it easiest to complete the .docx version then paste a photo or scan image of my signature, cropped closely to just the signature into it as a picture. Then set Word to wrap text around the picture so that the picture follows the text "Signature".

People who have better PDF tools than I do may prefer that version.

When you apply for any Cutting Edge testing, you will be told how to send the signed copy.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Ratings for Broadcast/Cable shows has always been a estimate.

Nielsen Streaming Ratings: Third-party measurement firm Nielsen tracks U.S. streaming viewership, releasing weekly reports that measure total minutes viewed across major television sets, broken down by program (such as original, acquired, and movie content) rather than minute-by-minute audience retention curves.
