I've got my noaaport system fully up and running finally. I'm having a little problem with signal quality though. I can't seem to get it over about 95%. I'm using good quality coax, but about a 100' run of it. Voltage at the LNB(horizontal) is 17v. Could that last little bit of quality be because of the long run? I spent 3 hrs out there today trying to fine tune, both where it's pointing and the postion of the feedhorn but was able to gain very little. Also, does running the coax near power conduits affect the signal, or even rolling the excess into a loop?

what am I missing? 95% sounds like a very good signal strength. Are you not able to lock onto the noaaport signal?

what size reflector are you using? It could be an issue if you aren't getting lock.

I'm using a 10' sami mesh polar mount with a norsat 8515 lnb and chaparral super feed feedhorn. I can lock fine. 95% quality may sound good but it's just not enough for data. I'm getting quite a few mangled packets. I am not effectivly receiving anything over about 500kb in size due to lost packets.

Is this on just one data channel or on all four? Have you checked that the decoder parameters are set up as required? 100 ft of coax is not really that long and shouldn't have a large effect on your signal. Running next to power lines shouldn't be a problem if you have good quality coax and its properly grounded. Good luck.

I agree that 95% should be fine for virtually any signal, particularly with a Twinhan, which generally gives low quality readings. A 95% quality should give you virtually no "uncorrected" errors. There will always be errors, but with the FEC you shouldn't get many that aren't corrected.

I would think that it's more likely a problem in the computer side of the setup. For example, I know I've mentioned this before, but not sure if in the NOAAPORT threads, but I've found that my Twinhan conflicts with SATA hard drives. This becomes very evident if you run TSREADER, or any other program that shows any error/lock statistics. I would have a transponder locked, and giving zero uncorrected errors, then I would start a sizeable file transfer to or from my SATA drive (at the time I had about 3 internal hard drives, one of which was SATA). Any time that SATA drive was active, the Twinhan would basically stop reading data. The error numbers would start flying, and it would be trying to re-sync/re-lock, and I'd eventually lose lock completely if the data transfer took long enough. As soon as the data transfer was finished, it instantly went back to error free reception.
This was NOT a function of the CPU being over-taxed, it was a clear conflict with the SATA drive. If the transfer was between any other drives, I wouldn't see any errors.
Anyway, I'd recommend pulling the transponder up with TSREADER, and watch the error categories while you transfer some large (like a 2 GB video file) file between drives on your computer. I'll bet that some device or process on your computer is interferring with the Twinhan. This could be why the problems are related to how big the files are, in that when saving a big file, the hard disk process has a higher priority,... or, perhaps the computer itself isn't fast enough to process the data, and not enough processor time is devoted to the Twinhan.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
