The engeneering department at Dish Network was kind enough to send me an updated list of fixes in L2.81 as well as a list of future updates and fixes.

L2.81 was schedued to go in wide release yesterday (the 19th)

Additional fixes in L2.81 include:
  • Timers would not fire with 811 in standby mode
  • Fixed bug when guide was in EPG mode, the 811 would not allow direct entry of channels that we not on the favorites list
  • Fixes grey box on the screen when tuned to a music channel
There are some bugs which are not fixed in L2.81 but will be fixed in future software updates, these bugs are as follows:
  • VCR Timer does not start recording function on the VCR. (A suggested fix for this is to set your VCR's timers to rececord you shows) This is schedued to be fixed in version L2.82 which is scheduled for release in November.
  • Receiver will not imediately power on when instructed to do so. (Suggested fix is to give your 811 a few minutes to turn on, if you press the on off button a few times the unit will imediately turn off... give it time) This is scheduled to be fixed in version L2.83 which is scheduled for release in January 2005.
There you go! Thank you for your support of SatelliteGuys!

By gosh, you're right Dave. DishHome was on during the Olympics, but the 6 channel feature wouldn't work. My bad.......

No, Dish home was there before 281. I've used it for many weeks now. :)

The DISH BUTTON did actually work before 280 (it worked in 269 I think). What happened was kind of a side effect of the 280 issue/bug of directly tuning a channel outside of your favorites list. 280 didn't allow this and instead select the next closest channel.

Thats why the DISH BUTTON didn't work. All it does is go directly to channel 100, and if you were on a favorites list it would simply goto the next closest channel.
Cool...makes sense.
O
My 811 summary

My software version is P281LADD-N

About 3 months ago there was an upgrade that caused the receiver to not turn on sometimes but, always goes through a reboot every time I turn it on. I have noticed It doesn't lock up like it used to for no reason, so I guess it is an improvement. I just go down stairs and turn it on 5 or 10 min before I'm ready to watch TV so it gets all the bugs and reboots out of it's system before I start watching. I have occasionally left the 811 on and turn off the TV (Sony KP-51WS510) thinking this would save me a reboot later, but I have found that when I turn on the TV the 811 sometimes reboots too. Can't figure that one out at all. I'm using S video, Component, and DVI outputs from the 811 to the TV. Not sure if a surge is going back one of the cables causing the reboot or what???

I have not seen the CC issue with mine. Thank goodness.

I have a Kenwood VR-209 Receiver that does not work with the 811 DD 5.1.

Oh and on a non hardware issue .... I have the top 60 but just realized I'm getting MSNBC and Fox News that were not in the package. Did they change something or did I just get lucky?

I like the Jimmy Fallon channel. This will be its third year. I like that it's all fresh each year. Also fun when he pops on live from time to time.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

They will have to look at the switching sections to determine WHY 2 trains were on the same track ... at the same time.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
