Just got a Fortec Dynamic and I need help with usals. Could someone post step by step instructions starting with motor at "0". I have entered long and lat but it does not find sats. I know the dish is tracking properly. Been using it for over a year with previous receiver. It tracked fine from 61.5 to 129. I know I am doing something wrong for usals. Gave up on it and setup the old receiver with diseqc. Thought the old receiver CW600p had a problem with usals but I guess I am the problem since I still can't get it to work. From what I read on these forums I was expecting it to be much easier on the Dynamic because of better motor controls. Thanks to all.

No USALS issues with either Moteck or DMSI SG-2100s here. I currently have 2 Moteck models in the dish farm, and both respond to USALS commands from my Visionsat. The receiver, not the motor, is responsible for the USALS function.

Tron,

Precisely! I believe that as long as you have physically and mechanically aligned the dish and motor properly, the receiver (if it has an approved USALS function) will drive the dish and motor to the satellite's position without errors.

The Coolsat 4000, 5000 and 6000 receivers and the Fortec Star receivers I can attest to being accurate in this regard. The only receiver I have found that has problems with USALS is the Sonic View 360 Premier and Elite. Tron confirms that the Visionsat is also accurate here.

The only drawback I can find with my receivers is that when USALS is selected, it will not drive beyond 60 degrees east or west from my entered longitude position. If I want to go beyond this, I do have to use DiSEqC 1.2 positioning and manually find the sat. I assume this is just a limitation in the USALS program within the receiver. The motor obviously has room to drive much further.

Yes, I have this problem with Hispasat. I'm at 90.1w longitude, and Hispasat is at 30w. USALS will not work on this satellite. Not wanting to set the rest of my arc off, I experimented with changing Hispasat's programmed position. I first tried 30.2w, but that wouldn't work either. I had to go above 31.1w in order for it to work using USALS, which was too far off to receive a decent signal (I did receive Hispasat with the motor set at 31.1w, but it was just at or below the threshold to lock). I therefore need to use DiSEqC 1.2 for this bird.

EDIT: On the other end of the arc, I can hit 148w with no problems using USALS.

I too have a Digi-Power SG2100 manufactured in the year of 2006, no issues using USALS for 3 years now! :)

Works fine also if you want to use it with DiSEqC 1.2, have used and tested it with both and it works immaculately and flawlessly either way!

Any motor can operate a little flakey on the older STB, but for the most part it has worked on every receiver I have tried but only one.

The SatPros DSR-500s would be the only exception with known reason.

I think also that it may be a clone mass produced copy that sadly circulated around and IS not the same motor! :(

I own a Fortec Star Dynamic and it works just fine on either DiSEqC 1.2 or USALS! I prefer to use USALS though for it is the most dependable for me.

On some hard to get USALS to move to any bird you can mix them up and use DiSEqC 1.2 to get to them and save! It works with one of my West positions I can't get to which is my furthest West at 148 degrees.

Radar,

I have had the same problem almost with the Digi-Power SG2100, mine goes to 30 East fine from my position but will not go all the way to the 148 West position my furthest west.

:up THE FIX

I manually drove the dish over west or bumped it to 148 and saved the position in the receiver. It used to just stop at 129 degrees West only using DiSEqC 1.2 for just that sat set at in the receiver. It was the limit out of the box! Goes there just fine now but I have noticed the other day it is gone, some trees here have Sprung to Spring here and a cut back is in order! :)

Just don't ever delete a satellite, or all your DiseqC-1.2 positions will be scrambled (assuming that the firmware on the Dynamic is the same as on the Mercury, which we have been told is the case). Ie, not only do Mercury (and Dynamic apparently) receivers not allow you to specify DiseqC-1.2 sat numbers, if you delete a satellite, the sat numbers remain in the same order in the receiver's memory, and the positions remain stored in the motor's memory however the satellites assigned to each satellite number get re-assigned. It doesn't matter whether you've deleted a satellite which has been assigned a DiseqC position, or if it's one you've been using with USALS, all the positions get re-assigned to the next satellite.

You two are detecting the same thing I am and are using the same method to compensate (DiSEqC 1.2 to manually drive the motor to the sat position).

I notice this with all three of these motors: SG-2100, DG-280 and DG-380 as well as with my Coolsat 5000 and the Fortec Star Dynamic receivers.

I therefore assume that the problem lies within the USALS programming. It is as if they didn't expect anyone to drive their motor to any position beyond 59 degrees east or 59 degrees west of their home position. So, they just didn't develop the program any further than that.

Just taking a semi-educated guess. I think it sounds reasonable.

There are USALS issues with some newer SG-2100 motors. I tried two from DMSI at the end of 2008 and they both had an overrun issue using USALS. Others have reported the same.

OMG! Sounds like a nightmare.

How would you recover?

I wrote a VB program that decodes the channel data files, and figures out which DiseqC-1.2 sat number corresponds to what satellite, and that made it clear where the deleted sat had messed things up, then I could edit the file with a binary editor to restore things.

There is a thread about it over on the Sadoun forum.

Mercury positioner numbers save location in ch. file. - Sadoun Tech Forums

In message 3 of the thread there is a link to my program, however that link is now dead, since my web page is down today, and perhaps for a while, since I'm in the process of moving my web page to another host. I just moved that one file, in case anyone wanted to try it. It was written for the Mercury, but probably works on the Dynamic channel data files too, since the Dynamic is supposed to be the same as a Mercury. It can't hurt to try, as it doesn't write anything, it just reads.

Program is at http://www.eskerridge.com/bj/sat/bjbinview.zip

If nothing else, using the program is a bit educational relative to how the DiseqC-1.2 process works. Ie the motor stores something like 51 or so locations, and in the receiver you just store the info that a certain sat corresponds to location number 15 or something, and basically just sends a GOTO 15 command to the motor. Ie with DiseqC-1.2, the receiver doesn't actually store any actual positions, just the info of what sat corresponds to what number.

I also used the program to help transfer sat numbers from other receivers over to the Mercury, so that I could use the motor with any of my receivers. The program didn't do the transfer, but it told me in what order the sats were in the channel data file, so I'd know what bytes to change with a binary editor.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Actually, it is. A couple of people PMed me when I posted this, and when I asked for an address, they never responded. Then I just sort of let it go. Send me a PM to continue the discussion

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.
