DISH Network(R) to Carry Racetrack Television Network Subscription Package

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., May 13, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- DISH Network Corporation (Nasdaq: DISH) today announced that it has entered into a long-term agreement with Racetrack Television Network (RTN) and HorseRacing TV (HRTV) for the creation of a subscription racing package. The subscription package will be offered to DISH Network(R) subscribers under the brand name "Racetrack Television Network," and will consist of up to 80 channels of live thoroughbred, quarterhorse, harness and greyhound racing.

Each racetrack in the package will have its own dedicated channel, allowing viewers to watch the same live, uninterrupted simulcast feed as is shown in commercial wagering establishments. The simulcast feed will include full wagering information, paddock shots, and post parades. Depending upon the time of year and the number of racetracks operating the package will include as many as 700 live races daily. DISH Network subscribers will be able to watch all of the exciting racing action for the everyday low price of $49.99 per month.

In addition to the 80 channel package, DISH Network viewers will have the opportunity to subscribe to a "Best of RTN" package. The "Best of RTN" package will consist of the live simulcast feeds of 12 of the top RTN racetracks running at any given time. The "Best of RTN" package will cost $29.99 per month.

Both the 80 channel and "Best Of RTN" packages are expected to launch in September, 2009

As part of the agreement announced today, HRTV and DISH Network have entered into a long-term extension of HRTV's carriage arrangement on DISH Network. HRTV and RTN will work cooperatively to market and promote the subscription package.

"With the recent running of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes around the corner, we are all reminded of the popularity of horse racing," said Michael Kelly, Executive Vice President of DISH Network. "We are pleased to be able to offer DISH Network subscribers the most complete package of racing content available in the marketplace."

"This new arrangement with DISH Network allows us to greatly improve and expand the existing distribution of the RTN package of racing content," said Todd Roberts, President of Racetrack Television Network. "Through this new relationship with DISH Network, it will now be easier than ever for racing fans across the country to access the full-card simulcast feeds available on RTN. Furthermore, our relationship with HRTV allows us to market and promote both the RTN package and the sport of racing in general, in ways never before possible."

I bet they put these channels up on 121 or a 105 SuperDish.

naah....That would mean everyone save for those who had locals off those birds and are still using those antennas would require a two dish solution. E* appears to be trying to avoid that.
I expect these services to be available from the core satellites. Probably EA as well.

Do you really expect that that many will want 80 channels of horseracing for $50/month?

80 channels is minimum 4 MPEG4 transponders. probably 6 or more MPEG2 TPs. At least 28 HD channels. Dish would be nuts to blow core bandwidth on this.

I agree.
Don't waste our Eastern Arc space with this garbage.
Put it on the 118 satellite and the 2 customers that pay $50 per month for Horse Racing can just upgrade to Dish PLUS setup.

"our " easten arc space? Care to elaborate on that?

Ok..Is there anyone willing to answer the questions I put to the board.
One more time. Are the niche interests of one small group( people who want seldom watched niche channels in HD) any more important than the niche interests of another group? In this case those who want to see horse racing.
BTW what you consider "garbage" others like very much.
What would your reaction be if one refered to your interests as "garbage"?
It cuts both ways.

80 SD channels is about 7 TPs of SD on a DBS satellite. I suspect they will be on 105/121 or similiar off satellite (they do not have 7 TPs available on a main DBS satellite if they wanted). You ask about a niche channel importance if you use the same 7TPs for HD you would end up with about 49 HD channels. Yes to answer your question I think they could put 49 HD channels up and sell it to a lot more people than 80 horse racing channels. So the 49 niche HD channel watchers are more important than the horse racing people.

Dish/DIRECTV answered your question a long time ago. If these channels were such hot sellers they would have been bidding them up trying to attract new subs. Instead they have focused on bringing as much HD as possible. And yes providers force thier less popular channels into the packages with the popular ones.

Thge operative is "Sell".. Look we all know that HD enthusiasts expect HD options to be provided free or at a very small cost.
That's a fact.
Let's take your number (49, which I believe to be high by quite a bit. Based on one HD ch taking the same bandwidth as 5 or 6 SD Channels, research to follow), do you think Dish would simply "give away" 49 channels of HD service without extracting more coin from those who want them? I think not.
However, Dish IS going to charge 50 bucks a month for the service in question. That's guaranteed revenue for Dish.
Now let's say dish charges 50 cents per new HD channel adding 25 bucks per month to each HD sub that wants those channels. In my experience the uproar from HD enthusiasts would be something Dish would not want to hear. Especially in light of the fact that the additional channels are of the niche variety.
Using that logic (one niche group vs another) which service would you add as a business owner, one that generates instant revenue or one that generates none at all?
I think at the end of the day Dish will NOT jeopardize their future expansion of HD offerings. So I am not understanding the alarm from HD enthusiasts.
It is as though the HD people have assumed that their HD programing desires will be dealyed to accomodate the Horse Racing service.
I don;t think so.
Now Wiht that said, how do you justify one niche group to be more than Improtant than another. Answer that question objectively. In other words forget your desire to see more HD.
One last thing.
I think this whole hullaballoo over HD for free is nonsense. If you want more stuff you should be willing to pay for it.

PS......In checking the figures on how much space HD vs SD ,it appears that some sources convey one HD channel takes up an equivalent space of 4 SD channels.
So while 7 Tp's (as you say) would be required to x-mit 80 channels that equals just 20 or so HD chs. That's based on mpeg 4 compression figures.. It is my understanding that up to 12 SD channels can be transmitted by one TP so your 7 TP estimate is pretty close. While 4 HD chs in mpeg 4 can be on one TP. That's with quite a bit of degredation to the HD quality. A major bone of contention among those who rightfully(IMO) demand their HD quality be untouched by compression(HD lite).
Anyway who knows the plans Dish has to offer.

Dish runs about 11-12 SD channels on a single TP (main DBS satellites) or 7 HD channels. When Dish uses a TP for HD they use a different transmission format that HD receivers have the hardware to decode which results in about 30% more bits in the transponder bandwidth. SD is in MPEG-2, HD is MPEG-4 also much more efficient. The result is that it is working out to about 7 HD channels or 11-12 SD channels/TP.

You are makeing the false assertion that people sub because of one channel. Dish/DIRECTV/Cable offer HD for "free" because that is what the main stream customer is starting to expect. Yes HD may only be 20% of the total subs at this time, it is a growing segment. These are main stream customers numbering in the millions. Dish either offers all the popular channels in HD for "free" (i.e. not upping the HD charge because of more channels) or will lose millions of customers to other providers.

Horse racing may be popular with many thousands of people that might be willing to fork over $50-$100/month to see it in 80 channels. More likely it is casionos, sports bars, etc doing the bulk of the purchasing of these (I am sure commercial venues pay a lot more than an individual sub would pay). That also being said, how much of the $$ is Dish actually getting?

can you supply the links to that data. Mine were bits and pieces of different links.
Anyway, The bottom line is you're correct people DO indeed expect HD for free. So that helps make my point.
However as I previously stated I do not believe Dish is going to bump potential space they need for HD additons to supply 80 chs of racing feeds.
The other poster seemd to be nonplussed by the mere metnion that Dish had the nerve to offer another service before offerring such HD channels as Gallery, Monsters HD and Kung Fu HD.
I for one do not miss these seldom watched niche channels. That to me is gobbling up precious TP sapce.

I am a propenent of a la carte. No one is going to convince me that a la acrte is impossible. The C- band providers were able to successfully compete for subs before analog went the way of stone knives and bearskins.

Anyway, there is not enough of it all to accomodate everyone's desires.
Dish is moving forward with their plans and that's that.

Check out SatelliteGuys.US - TheList at the top of every page. Pick subscription home list then satellite (like 61.5w) then click on transponder to sort by transponder. The hard part is finding a TP with just SD and not a mix of SD and Audio or other odd things. Also you can see the HD MPEG-4 HD, and see they go from 6-8/TP.

Dish has plenty of space for this, I do not think it will go on the main DBS satellites 61.5/72.5/77 or 110/119/129. But they could put them on 118.7 which is mainly used for internationals now and they would have a single dish solution. The 1000+ Dish does 110/118.7/119/129. 118.7 should have space clearing up as they move the HD LiL off of it to 129 spot beam.

I just do not see them taking down main stream programming and replacing it with this. I do not see them filling up the remaining space on the main stream satellites to put this up either.

Dish has a ton of capacity that they use for misc things, in fact they have stated it is a business they are expanding.

The remnants of Charlie Ergen's soured $46 billion bet on 5G can be found on the roof of a church in suburban Boston, atop a university water tower outside Minneapolis and on buildings in Manhattan and Knoxville, Tennessee.

The EchoStar Corp. chairman's plan to turn Dish Wireless into a major US telecom provider got an assist from these and more than 3,000 other small property owners around the country, including more than 80 churches that agreed to install antennas on their rooftops to generate extra income.

But Dish stopped paying rent last year after regulators began scrutinizing its 5G plans. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June and now wants to abandon the equipment, leaving property owners and managers staring down bills to remove it themselves. In the case of Michael Grace, the tab is $49,000.

"This is the screwiest thing," said Grace, co-founder of Grace Capital outside Chicago.

Dish hasn't paid its $2,500 monthly rent since last fall for antennas atop a 10-story office building that Grace's firm manages in Knoxville. The equipment is so bulky that Grace says he'll have to pay a crane company about $49,000 to remove it. Leaving it in place would make him liable should there be an accident, he says.

That is the EXACT thing I was thinking.
There are some people in this world that you simply don't want to "get in bed with", businesswise.

No more liable that he was when Echo was paying rent. Some people panic over seeing their own shadow.

They got their money, the people that have leases with Dish to put their 5G antennas on their roofs didn't. Now they have to figure out what to do with the equipment Dish installed.

Banks are usually the ones doing the "screwing." I can tell you tales. When a former employer went under, I had mailed the final PR taxes to Uncle Sugar. A bank person informed me they were seizing that cash for what was owed to them. I informed her the IRS had priority. I got treated like sh*t and was told off. I held my peace, figuring this person, and the bank, were about to learn a lesson from the IRS. I notified our lawyer. Not much later, the funds were released to the IRS and WE did not pay penalties and interest. I hope the bank did.

It's not over until it's over.
The wireless group is still in bankruptcy and it is quite possible the judge will carve out something regarding the stranded equipment .
Lots of times the big debt holders will throw the little guys a bone to get them to accept a resolution being presented to the judge.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

Got to unfurl and hold the flag at Allegiant for the anthem today - amazing experience.

Balls
Bears. Gave the Pats a good beatdown.
Bucs. Got Baker back and absolutely demolished the previously surprising Panthers.
Falcons. Took care of the 49ers and did so convincingly.
Vikings. I hate them. I do. I've never seen such a bad/good team. Know what I mean? I know their D is epic. But their O is insulting. How they remain undefeated is a mystery.
Rams. Finally looked the part. Mind you against the hapless Cards.
Cowboys. Fireworks performance from their O.
Dolphins. Finally logged in a W. There won't be many. Enjoy it, Miami fans.
Browns. Still atop the AFC North.
Giants. Epic OT win with Buffalo's very own Motor Singletary finishing it off.
Seattle. Dominated KC from start to finish.

Goats
Jets. Couldn't beat the winless Dolphins. Aaron Glenn is a dead man walking.
Eagles. Injured beyond repair
Ravens and Lamar. Has he ever played a full season? Honestly, dude is fragile. Of course he's back for the Bills game.
49ers. No longer undefeated.
Colts. A sh*t show. When are they gonna realize that Daniel Jones is ass?
Steelers vs Saints game. Ass, just ass all around. Those poor people in Paris have had enough lately, and on top of that, endure that game.
Chiefs. They looked terrible. Like really bad.
Pack vs. Detroit game refs. Some of the worst refereeing I've seen in a long time. And the sample is pretty large.

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

Even sarcastically it's wrong. Undocumented immigrants already weren't eligible for federal Medicaid, so there's no one to "get off the rolls." The immigrant-related pieces are a small part of the ~$1 trillion. They cut the federal match for emergency care from 90% to the state's regular rate and end eligibility for some lawful immigrants like refugees. Most of the "savings" come from work requirements, more frequent eligibility checks, and provider tax limits, which hit citizens.

Either way, the cost doesn't disappear. It shifts to states, hospitals, and everyone else's premiums and will only serve to make issues like those raised in this thread worse.

That's only part correct. Actually I had to look it up to make sure. There is NO Federal money going to Medicaid for illegals but there ARE some states that use State money to pay for Medicaid for illegals. Here's the list

    • California: Covers all income-eligible undocumented adults. [1, 2]
    • Colorado: Covers specific adult demographics (with upcoming budget caps in 2027). [1]
    • Illinois: Covers specific adult age brackets. [1]
    • New York: Covers specific adult demographics. [1]
    • Oregon: Covers all income-eligible undocumented adults. [1, 2]
    • Washington: Covers specific adult demographics. [1, 2]
    • Washington, D.C.: Provides adult coverage through the D.C. Health Care Alliance. [1, 2]

Fair point, but it's consistent with what I said: no federal Medicaid money goes to undocumented immigrants. Those programs are state-funded, so the federal ~$1T cut can't touch them. Whatever states decide to do with their own programs is a separate budget decision.

That's not who it is for. The cut is for those who won't work (though you typically had to prove that you couldn't work to get it in the first place).

This started a couple months ago. I have 2 H3s on one network, both with 2 EHD identical 3 TB seperately powered so all recordings are accessible by all 4k & J4s (8 of them).

On one H3 (not the main one that controls the MOCA network), after it reboots, it doesn't recognize it has two EHDs plugged into it. Rebooting the EHD by their power source doesn't fix it. Resetting the network doesn't. Software h3 reset doesn't fix it. Rebooting MOCA h3 doesn't fix it but so far, after 3+ cold boots (unplug pwr to H3 with unrecognized EHDs), it finally it figures out they are plugged into it. BUT.... Then when you open a program it only partially shows series and episodes, but instead of showing recordings, it only shows upcoming airings. HELP!!!!

It'll only see two EHDs at a time.

JohnGalt1234 - So you basically have 2 Hopper 3's. The CasinoH3 is the one that is Hopper 3 only while Master Bedroom is a Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus setup.
Master Bedroom uses Android TV (ATV) software so the DISH part is actually a app and will behave differently as you can probably tell the Guide's are different on the Master Bedroom which will resemble the same guide used on other ATV devices such as the Joey 4 and Wireless Joey 4. If I am correct, the CasinoH3 is the one with the problem since you did say the one dated 09/05/2026 is the naughty one while 08/15/2026 named Master Bedroom is the nice one. Usually I would expect the CasinoH3 to be the one without the problem because it's Hopper 3 only and Master Bedroom would be the one with problems because it has the Hopper Plus involved. That is why they behave differently because CasinoH3 is running the native Hopper 3 software while Master Bedroom is running the Android TV software and also it runs a app called DISH known as package com.dish.atv.launcher, the version for mines is P15403 2026100917 so it's probably the same version as the Hopper Plus software version with the date of October 9, 2026, not sure what the 17 means except maybe revision 17?

This explains it better than I can. Sorry, had to take all the ads out.

As I understand it, the android is just the display signal from the hopper+. I can disconnect the H+ and plug the hdmi directly into the master hopper3.

It is not just a display signal as explained above. When you have the Hopper+ connected, it uses Android TV for pretty much everything except for the satellite signal which is why it uses the DISH app for the standard Hopper 3 functions. But that should not matter because in your case, CasinoH3 is the Hopper 3 with the EHD which is what you call the naughty one based on the dates you mentioned and Master Bedroom which has the Hopper Plus connected to the Hopper 3 that does not have the problem. So one way to test the theory is disconnect the Hopper Plus from that Hopper 3 and then use the EHD's connected to CasinoH3 currently to see if the same issue exists. That way you will know if the problem is there without a Hopper Plus connected or if CasinoH3 is just a bad hopper to begin with.

Normally when you disconnect the Hopper Plus, it will be 30 minutes or more before you can use the Hopper 3 again.

What you want to do is:
hold the POWER button in, not the red reset button, for about 45 seconds or so while disconnecting the power to the Plus and moving the HDMI cable and it will reboot to the normal Hopper only immediately.

One comes online; the other consistently won't. Also, when I connect the EHD, the USB Detected status light on the EHD itself changes from Red to Green. But the Hopper (713) does not start the EHD read process. The light changes to indicate that the EHD has detected a valid USB cable, but the Hopper does not recognize it.

Yeah, I read through that and understand that now. It rebooted itself last night and upgraded to H713, and lost the EHDs again. As usual, power cycling the EHDs, did nothing, software H3 reboot didn't either, but it only took one cold boot to get them to come back.

Did you ever answer how to trigger that external hard drive test? Had the guys over Saturday to watch college football and BS (mostly BS) and in my rec room (casino H3) I have two TVs one from Casino H3, and the other either duplicates the H3 (if we only want to watch one game) or a separate Joey4 if we want to watch 2 games. In the last Quarter of the Rutgers at Maryland game, Casino H3 decided it wanted to do that EHD test, which it said could take up to 100 mins. I set up the game on tablet with dish anywhere for two guys most interested in that game because I wanted to see what the test said when it was completed. I missed it but the EHDs were working fine and I put the game back on that TV (took about 15 mins for the test).

Maybe what you might want to do the next time is first disconnect the EHD's and then reboot using the physical Red Button Reset in the Hopper 3 and let it boot up and basically Live TV, wait 10 minutes or so after that and then plug in EHD #1, give it 5 minutes to detect and either after it detects or if after the 5 minutes whichever comes first, plug in EHD #2 and give it 5 minutes to detect. If you got both detected successfully, then you can use the Menu based Reboot and see if it detects itself within the first 10 minutes. But don't hit the DVR button on the remote until that 10 minutes after Live TV in both scenarios.

As for how to trigger the External Hard Drive Test, I have no idea except I know I saw it periodically like it says but some people on reddit apparently has seen it daily everytime it does that nightly reboot as seen in this thread on reddit:

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/dishnetwork/s/zEDfVfgBQv

and as of a few days ago, they are still complaining about that:

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/dishnetwork/comments/1x7uxtp/so_sick_of_this_with_the_hopper_3_didnt_want_to/

So not sure what is triggering it for them but basically they lose up to 110 minutes every night which can include sleep for at least one of the persons because of the "periodically" External Hard Drive test and waiting for a fix promised fix while no one on here seems to have the issue. I had not seen the External Hard Drive test for years. If I had to guess, it is similar to Linux/Unix and Windows when the system was not shutdown properly so you will see the fsck running at startup or the Windows Filesystem Check.

Google Search AI says the following:

The Hopper 3 determines whether to run the external hard drive (EHD) test at bootup based on a set of internal firmware rules. At its core, the Linux-based operating system on the Hopper looks for specific hardware markers and system file states when initializing:

1. The File System "Dirty Flag" (Most Common Trigger)
Like a computer running an unexpected disk check, the Hopper 3 looks at the drive's file system table during boot.
  • If the drive was unmounted safely before the reboot, the system sees a "clean" status flag and skips the test entirely to speed up boot times.
  • If the Hopper lost power suddenly, froze up, or received a forced hard reset while the drive was spinning, the status flag remains marked as "dirty" (unclean shutdown). The bootloader detects this flag and automatically triggers the test to scan for corrupted file segments and index errors before allowing playback.

2. Linux Kernel Device Interrogation (fsck)
When the Hopper 3 initializes its Linux kernel at bootup, it queries every connected USB peripheral.
  • If it detects a new or altered hardware ID (such as plugging a drive into a different USB port, swapping cables, or attaching a drive that was disconnected during the last power cycle), it runs a foundational mount check.
  • This scan ensures the file structure matches the receiver's encryption keys before mapping the storage directory to your DVR menu.

3. Read/Write Mount Error Counts
The Hopper tracks background hardware performance metrics. If the internal system logs show that the external drive suffered from timed-out read/write commands or communication drops just prior to the reboot, the operating system overrides the default boot process. It forces the external hard drive check to determine if the drive is physically failing or suffering from partition degradation.

4. Scheduled Maintenance & Major Software Binds
Dish pushes system software updates over the satellite stream, usually during the 1:00 AM – 5:00 AM maintenance window. If a newly installed firmware version introduces changes to the receiver's DVR file structure or database index system, the update sequence purposefully injects a one-time diagnostic flag into the boot cycle. This ensures that old recordings on the external drive remain entirely compatible with the new software.

Operating systems run file system checks (such as fsck on Unix/Linux/FreeBSD or chkdsk on Windows) during startup to detect and repair data corruption, fix broken directory structures, and ensure the storage drive is safe before mounting it for normal use. [1]

Why File Systems Get Corrupted
    • Unclean Shutdowns: Power outages, hardware resets, or sudden crashes interrupt write operations before data and metadata are fully saved to the disk.
    • Inconsistent State: Metadata (such as file allocation tables, inodes, or journaling logs) can point to missing blocks or overlapping file paths.
    • Scheduled Maintenance: Older file systems trigger periodic, count- or time-based scans to catch slow degradation or orphaned sectors. [1]

How Operating Systems Handle the Checks
    • Unix / Linux / FreeBSD (fsck): Inspects the superblocks, inode tables, and directory trees. Modern journaling file systems (like ext4, XFS, or ZFS) use a transaction log to quickly replay or roll back unfinished operations instead of scanning every block, meaning a full check only runs if the system was marked "unclean" or after a set number of mounts. [1, 2, 3]
    • Windows (chkdsk / NTFS): Checks the Master File Table (MFT), security descriptors, and bitmap structures. NTFS uses a built-in transaction log ($LogFile) to automatically recover consistency almost instantly, rarely requiring a full disk surface scan unless a serious hardware or logical error occurred.
So not seeing it is usually a good thing as these people probably have failing storage devices or corrupted filesystems.

Ever since my H3 updated to H713 a week ago, I am having the same problem with my two EHDs not showing up all the time after the nightly reboot. It doesn't happen everyday, but it's happened twice in the past 5 or 6 days. When it happens, the only way to get them back is to turn them off (they are eternally powered), reboot the Hopper, then then turn the EHDs back on one at a time. I have never had this problem in all the years I have had this Hopper, both with a single EHD, nor since I added a second EHD several months ago. Clearly, Dish broke something with this latest software release. Once again, the lack of good QA regression testing has become apparent.

That's right folks. It is preseason football and the QB controversies are everywhere.

Cleveland signed Joe Flacco who turned 140 this year. He will likely be the starter, despite an incredibly hopeful performance from First Rounder-turn-Fifth Rounder pick Shedeur Sanders. Sanders pulled an oblique and will sit out the second game of the pre-season. My prediction is that Flacco will play roughly 17 snaps before *insert season ending injury*. The remainder of the season will see another 3 or 4 starters as injuries plagued Cleveland as it tries to rebuild after it rebuilt itself around a quarterback that could keep all his limbs intact. Meanwhile Haslam will be in court to help support the 'use funds that technically don't belong to the state' defense in order to help build a new stadium next to an airport. We keep hearing he'll go it alone, but no, he won't. There is tens of million in DOT related improvements necessary he doesn't want to pay for either.

In New England, the start of a new era. New England had unprecedented success under Belichick (whose name I still can't spell right) and have moved to former New England great Mike Vrabel. I'm pretty this is the first coach since Belichick. Right? The Patriots are rebuilding as well as trying to compete. Last season was difficult for Drake Maye who had to deal with an offensive line that practiced too much Buddhism and their passive stance on impeding the actions of others, led to Drake Maye running more yards behind scrimmage that the entire AFC East gained on offense.

So, Pavia got passed over completely. Is he too short, or too disruptive? I enjoyed watching him last year. He played with the kind of enthusiasm all athletes could use a little of. He took a fairly good team to the edge of excellence.

Where will he go? Will he sign on to some team as an undrafted? Will he talk Vandy into paying him 5 million for another season in Nashville? Inquiring minds and all.

Well, he Can't go back to Vandy, thats not an option unless they changed the rules again.
Once you sign being eleigable for the NFL Draft, your out of school. (hopefully that Never changes)

Will he sign on with someone as an Undrafted player, I'd say Yes, some one will sign him to At least the 3rd qb, maybe the #2 if he does well in practice ...

Vanderbilt's media says Pavia is 6' ... not sure what he measured at the Combine (was he invited to it, I would imagine, but don't know)
IF he is 6' I would say yes he has a chance, there are alot of Qb's 6' and under that have gone on to play.

My guess is he's more like 5'9" or 5'10", its common for schools to pad the heights and weights.
Google says he's 5'10" ... I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't give him a try.

5' 9" and 7/8ths at the combine, lol. Clearly fudged some things for him at Vandy. He's also 24, and the 18th ranked QB of the class.

First Heisman finalist to go undrafted since 2014. Seems like his mouth and confidence didn't match his performance at the combine or teams expectations of his ability in the NFL.

Teams aren't interested in controversy unless the performance is there to justify it. Not worth it from your 3rd string / camp arm.

Wise of him to take the slice of humble pie and throw some balls for the Ravens, has little shot of making the active roster, but maybe he can play his way onto someone's scout team this year.

Or perhaps his road ends here, and he can try out for the UFL or something.

Think the old adage "sit quietly and be thought of as a fool or open your mouth and remove all doubt" comes to mind here. Wife and I were wondering who was advising him to talk to the press on draft day?
I lost the bet here, I figured he was a sure fire pick for Cleveland - mouth writes checks talent can't back up seems to be standard there.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Does it get counted 2x as both Streaming and Cable ?

Nobody is "happy" or "sad" about this. Simply posting data in an non-editorialized way has nothing to do with anyone's feelings.

The data on the streaming side is immensely accurate, I'm guessing to the millisecond. Plus most people likely have not turned off data sharing and thus they are grabbing a huge swath of data. Much more accurate than cable which relies on a smaller sample size and probably not to the second.

In either case, nobody is getting "double counted" because it's usage based. If I watch 100 minutes of content and 30 minutes is on Youtube and 20 minutes on Disney and 50 minutes on YTTV, it's going to show up as 30%, 20%, 50% slices of my personal pie respectively.
Q.
Who does the Counting for Streaming ?

Neilson does the Broadcast/Cable ...
Nielsen does. If you go into the settings of any of your streaming accounts, you can turn off the option to share to usage data with their third party measuring service - Nielsen.
