During the past week I am encountering brief (non-weather related) signal loss on at least three HD channels (CNBC, FOXB, FOX) all of which are on SAT129. This occurs on all 4 of my DVRs(622,622,722,722) and is not a weather problem. The error message is 206-signal loss. If the up or down channel button is punched and then immediately returned to the original channel the picture has returned without a lengthy rebooting process as in a weather related signal loss. The Dish technician could not offer any explanation or solution. Is anyone else currently encountering this problem and does anyone have a solution?

Check system status for LNB drift.

Check system status for LNB drift.
Since this is the most recent thread about LNB drift, I'll ask here... I have the LNB Drift message on my System Info screen and only for satellite 129. The numbers are:

Code:
0x0d, 0xa1, 129 (e -6)

STB Health Lite
Tuner 0 as of 06/28/09 3:30am
Orbital: 14 15 16 21
110 71 68 73 71
119 57 62 60 63
129 0 0 0 55

Can't say we've seen signal loss, at least during clear weather. I do think that during cloud cover that we lose signal *sooner* than in the past.

At what point *before* complete failure will Dish replace this ? From what I've read, it will only get worse before it's completely out.

Call tech support. There is a certain threshold at which drift becomes an automatic truck roll. I had a couple calls in to tech support about signal loss and the LNB drift message. If you keep having issues, even if you're not at tehir threshold number for drift, they'll send someone out. In my case it was apparently an older version LNB that the installer said "If I had done your last service and saw that LNB in there I would have changed it out because that version has known issues."

So... short answer.... call tech support and let them know you're having increasig problems with signal loss.

jlo
all dp rcvrs have lnb support software that allows them to search an unlimited amount of frequency for the channel. if you get a truck roll for lnb drift without legacy equip, someone isnt doing their job! you may just need a regular service call to replace your lnb for mechanics or something, but never drift. the threshold for legacy on drift is "8", if you have more than one legacy rcvr the threshold is "5.99", the threshold for dp used to be 30, so by all counts you are good there

the threshold for legacy on drift is "8"...
Just wanted to resurrect this thread .... was watching TV over the weekend, perfectly clear day, and I lost signal on 129'. Went into the details screens and still have the same numbers as earlier and ended up calling tech support. Tech was trying to insist that since my signal was now back, nothing's wrong. Ummm, whatever... I did tell him the "-6" number so maybe unless it's "-8" as mentioned above, I'm SOL.

He did have me do the usual check switch and so on but before I ran that, he had me un-select the "Superdish" option. Anyone know why ?

SuperDish isn't really anything any more so just ignore that. Are you sure there isn't anything blocking that sat like a tree or a limb of any kind? Look on the LNB to be sure that you don't have any spiders nesting on it cause I've gone to a house for a trouble call for something like this and that was the cause. took me forever to just look at it and move the little ball/nest from the LNB with my screw driver.

Also look to make sure nothing is going on with the wires like the ground block sitting in a puddle of water or something too.. go around and inspect the condition of the lines etc... if they are under ground just glance around and be sure you don't have moles or ground hogs in the area cause I've had to pull wire cause of a mole eating the wire under the ground also.
Hall
The dish is ~24' in the air on my 2nd story roof. There's nothing that could be blocking it's "view". Being that it's ~24' high, I can't check for spiders or spider webs.

All of the wiring was checked a few months ago as I had 3-4 622 receivers fail over a number of years and they tried to blame "grounding" issues. The tech found no ground problems but did replace every single cable connector for good measure.

How do any of those relate to "LNB Drift" ?

If it wasn't for what I want, I wouldn't need any of this.

Do I need a collection of handheld radios, scanners and speed enforcement countermeasures? Nope, but I want them. Very little, if any of the software used to interface with these devices is available on Linux.

To each there own but I've found that Windows can't do much more than Linux can. Can't have everything. ☹️

For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.

I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.

What is so fantabulous about the Windows UI? By many accounts, it has been going downhill since Windows 7.

There are Linux desktops that offer Windows or Mac UIs, yet you don't hear much chatter about them outside of questions about when the creators might get sued.

Because it's what I prefer. I know I've said this a few times, I use Open Shell to give me the cascading start menu a la WIN 95 and NT4.0. The only reason I went from Windows Vista to 7 back in the day was because of Classic Shell. I cannot stand anything other than the OG start menu from 30+ years ago. I'm using ExplorerPatcher to give me Windows 10 UI elements of the taskbar and right click context menus.

If you could take a look at how I set up Windows 95, you'd find many similarities to how I use 11.

I could probably use that as a starting point, but I don't like the full size icons. If you have to click on each folder that's also a no-go for me, it has to be cascading.

I used to have Peppermint Linux in a VM, that was about as close as I could get to recreating a Windows NT4.0 style of menu structure, but I could never get it to scale properly in VMWare on a 4K display and eventually gave up.

Whatever the boot up time it's fine with me. The longest part of my bootup is the HP SureStart BIOS integrity check. Once that is done, it's only a few more seconds. I haven't done this reg tweak yet since the reformat, but I switched the bootup animation to the Windows 10 style spinning circle of dots, and it's two and a half rotations. I can live with that.

I hope you don't believe that makes it wonderful (especially when you're using workarounds for Microsoft's malfeasance).

I use LibreOffice as opposed to Microsoft office (even in Windows) because it's UI is like the Office of old, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is (in a manner of speaking). The ribbon was one of the worst ideas to come out Redmond.

I used to pin the C: drive to the Win Taskbar and it would open in cascading style

It's dead, they just don't know it yet. They killed it by forcing DRM on it, and that TOTALLY botched implementing it.

There is absolutely NO compelling reason for anybody to switch to ATSC3.0. They only want it as a total and complete money grab.
Mister B
What bothers me is the total waste of broadcasting spectrum in this very crowded market. It has been almost three years now since KFOX converted their broadcast tower to ATSC 3.0 and moved all of their channels to other towers causing noticeable degradation of the picture quality.
I have a Sony TV with 3.0 capabilities but still use the 1.0 version of locals due to the fact that one or all of the 3.0 channels are often missing or unwatchable. In this city of 800K I doubt that more than a few hundred even know about ATSC 3.0.
The only thing that could motivate me to be interested in 3.0 would be if all of the minor networks (diginets) could be in at least 720P rather than blurry ultra-compressed 480i.
Three years is long enough to waste one of the few available RF frequencies in the area for this trial.
It is time to either move on with this experiment or call it quits.

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
