Are you guys trying to trick me into becoming a geek?
You must be.
Why?

I planted another satellite pole today.

I went to the store and bought some cement and a hole digger.
I was going to buy a shovel but the guy at the store showed me a hole digger thing that looked like it would be better. So I bought one.

The kid loaded the cement in my car and I drove off.
When I got home I discovered that the cement bag was too much for me to carry around to the back yard so I borrowed a little red wagon from a neighbor and pushed it out of the car into the wagon. That darn kid at the store sure made it look a lot lighter than I found it to be.

I found an old fence pole in the tool shed so I used that for putting the dish on.

So I went back and after consulting with my neighbor for some advice (and to try to con him into doing the work for me) I took the digger, made a hole, put the pole in it, mixed the cement in the wagon and poured it in around the pole then leveled it up with my iphone (a little app for leveling stuff).

My neighbor sat on his porch in the shade sipping a beer while I was out there having a heat stroke. I swear he was snickering at me the whole time.

I washed the little wagon out and returned it then hurried back into the air conditioning before I died out there.

So my neighbor says the cement should be dry by tomorrow, that I can put the dish up on it by then. Whew! My back is killing me!

So tomorrow I am going to put up another of those stupid little beasties and see if I can find some more interesting stuff to watch.

I swear, I still intend to take them all down and put up just one on a motor but I have all these free ones the ex left behind so I might as well use them for now until I can afford to put up the one large dish.

At this rate though, I soon won't have much yard left to mow. I think I will put some bricks around them and plant flowers inside for now. To be honest, I don't think I'll be able to put the big dish up until spring.

Sigh....... You guys, I swear, y'all are such a bad influence on me.... ;)

These channels are being uplinked for reception by PBS television stations, so they use the standards that the equipment at those stations is designed for. They are not really meant for us, we are not their intended audience. That is why there are so many standards, and the audio is configured differently from channel to channel. Since we are eavesdroppers, it is generally not a good idea to contact the originator of a FTA channel about reception issues. Its just part of the hobby, dealing with the different technology used by various uplinkers.
Anole
dual LNBs:

Somewhere in all the ranting, there was a comment about adding a second LNB to one of your dishes.
If you'll tell us which dish, and what two satellites you want to get, maybe we can offer encouragement (if appropriate) to that task.

So, for instance if you want two birds too far apart, we can tell.
But, if you want to get two birds that are too close together for your size dish, we can advise you there as well.
Some dishes (with longer focal lengths) can accommodate very close satellites with ultra small LNBs.

The other problem, is which satellite to aim the dish at.
Stronger ones can be a little off to one size; others really need to be right down the middle. - :up

You can experiment all you want, but if ya can get some general guidelines, it might be less frustrating. -

Dee,
I feel your frustration at times I've felt the same way with FTA stuff....most of us have. When everything is working right we sit back and say aaaaah and enjoy. You mentioned Galaxy 19. Kuwait 2 has some decent shows and usually a movie in the evening. English with arabic subtitles. Everything starts at weird times...ten or twenty til or after the hour sometimes. My wife has no use for FTA 99% of the time but she seems to like this one channel. Good luck Blind:)
zamar23
Dee,

Lets assume, your both sat receivers are connected to all your TVs via a single A/V Home Theater Receiver, and none directly to a TV. Your TVs in other rooms appear to be connected to the A/V Receiver via a reversed (Remote controlled) A/V Signal Selector & Component cables (if you need to select each time, in what room to watch TV) or an RF Modulator & Signal Amplifier & Splitter(s) (if it plays in all rooms simultaneously). In both cases, to hear in other rooms AC3 or PCM digital sound, your A/V Receiver should be able to process Digital In and output it as Analog Stereo Out, which it can't do. That's why you hear AC3 sound only in the main room via a set of speakers connected directly to the A/V Receiver via speaker wire (and not RCA Stereo Cable, as the rest of your TVs). On the other hand, when a sat channel has Mono or Stereo sound, and it's output from a Sat Receiver via analog RCA Stereo cable to your A/V Receiver, the sound then re-broadcast out of it via similar RCA Stereo Out and can be played by any TV in your other rooms.

As to the problem, where you hear a channel audio only from the Right Front Speaker of the A/V Receiver, you need to select in the A/V Receiver a mode to distribute original Mono Sound over all speakers. When you hear a sound out of the Right Rear Speaker only, it may be because one of Surround Sound Processing Modes is selected in your A/V receiver to play a Mono Sound - change it to All Speakers / No Processing mode. Generally, look through your A/V Receiver's Manual, and try playing with changing sound processing and audio signal distribution modes btw speakers (connected to it only via speaker wire) to find the right mode for a selected sat channel.

In addition, many Sat Receivers can't adjust volume of non-decoded AC3 Dolby or PCM Digital Sound, so you need to adjust it via your A/V Receiver and TV Set Remotes. If your each Sat Receiver is connected to the A/V Receiver via 2 audio cables (RCA digital coax and RCA Stereo, as they should), the A/V Receiver will usually auto select digital input for outputting via speaker wire or HDMI, and analog Input for outputting via RCA Stereo. However, if it doesn't, select proper Analog Audio In with your A/V Receiver's Remote to listen in another room - it won't work however for AC3 sound. You may need to assign an extra A/V Receiver's Digital In port for digital audio. Alternatively, you might be able to control Audio Out port selection for a particular channel with your Sat Receiver's Remote, or select a regular Audio track instead of AC3 if there's a choice. Use Universal Remote to control all your equipment, and better yet Learning Universal Remote with Radio Extender to control it from any room of the house.

Yes, your A/V Home Theater Receiver is a complex enough separate piece of equipment, and needs to be mastered to work with and understand all its functions and modes, and how its connected to and works with your other equipment. :)
turbosat
Dee, the sound on WhiteSprings is funny, but I have found on my receivers, if I hit the Audio button, then the right or left arrow button, it causes the sound to go out to all the speakers , instead of just the right side. I'm using a Yamaha Home Theater receiver to decode the channels with Dolby Digital, but it also passes thru the regular PCM audio to all the speakers, on the other channels. Sometimes the sat receiver has to have that little nudge tho, by using the audio button, and the right/left arrow buttons.

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Nielsen Streaming Ratings: Third-party measurement firm Nielsen tracks U.S. streaming viewership, releasing weekly reports that measure total minutes viewed across major television sets, broken down by program (such as original, acquired, and movie content) rather than minute-by-minute audience retention curves.

Nobody is "happy" or "sad" about this. Simply posting data in an non-editorialized way has nothing to do with anyone's feelings.

The data on the streaming side is immensely accurate, I'm guessing to the millisecond. Plus most people likely have not turned off data sharing and thus they are grabbing a huge swath of data. Much more accurate than cable which relies on a smaller sample size and probably not to the second.

In either case, nobody is getting "double counted" because it's usage based. If I watch 100 minutes of content and 30 minutes is on Youtube and 20 minutes on Disney and 50 minutes on YTTV, it's going to show up as 30%, 20%, 50% slices of my personal pie respectively.
Q.
Who does the Counting for Streaming ?

Neilson does the Broadcast/Cable ...
Nielsen does. If you go into the settings of any of your streaming accounts, you can turn off the option to share to usage data with their third party measuring service - Nielsen.

Have you tried a new power brick on your Amiko? It's slim pickings out there anymore. The FTA market in the US has pretty much been abandoned.

This would likely be your best bet, and Rick is a good seller. I've never had any issues with him:

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
