Getting underway today in the Southeast here for myself. Just a friendly reminder to those of you who "shadow survey" the area for dish mounting.

IMHO The best way to find your mounting locations based the sun's position in the sky. Enjoy it while it lasts. :D

I guess I will have to admit that indeed the Sun Outages could be very usefull. Finally today , it was sunny and not only allowed me to confirm the LNB was dead center on the prime focus Dish but also I could verify the exact location of some sats in the sky behind trees and some other problematic locations.

Using the birdog Spectrum analizer I could see the noise floor raising and the C/N level going slowly from above 8 to less than 4 dB, therefore lost the signal completly.

I could also see that my Bell Dish did not lost the lock at all however as expected Univision on Galaxy @ 91 using a 1.2 Dish started to pixealate heavily for a few minutes.

I could also see that very strong TP's on sunny days are able to keep the signal ok despite the quality of the link going to almost the threshold however the same TP the next or the day before on a cloudy or rainy day will pixealate or loose the signal. Obviously due to the fact that on those bad days the S/N level is normally very low and since the Noise increases as a result of the Sun Interference the total S/N level goes below the threshold.

All this were known facts but if was fun to see it happen. I guess part of the fun with this hobby eh?.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up on this event thsi time around.

HDFan,

It is really clever to have this additional tool, even if it is only valid twice a year! I works pretty good.

Yeah , How clever?. I just might have burnt/damaged the center of my retina in my right eye yesterday after watching the Sun on a particular very Sunny day with the naked Eye. Anyways it is all my fault , even with Sunglasses I would have damaged my eyes anyways. Only a welder mask would have somehow protected my eyes and I had none.

Now I guess I will have to sell the HDTV and in the process change my user name to SD Fan since at least for a very small spheric center of the right Eye I can not resolve it very well (I can see like a very small Sun when I look into a white surface). As a cuban at least I can see the positive side effect , more cash to pay off some debt , lol.

I still can not beleive how I could have been so stupid pretending to watch the Sun with the naked Eye knowing that even to watch Sun Eclipses you have to protect your Eyes. It has not been 24 hours yet but after so long I am more incline to beleive this could be permanent damage to the retina rather than just a temporary thing for the eyes to adjust back to normal light levels. Am I decreasing my inteligence after living in North America or what? Funny thing, I have asked my self this question , Why would someone put that object inside a Microwave? after reading about a microwave related accident in the news, guess what moron, the same applies to watching the sun with the naked eye.

After a week I will go to the eye doctor just to confirm of course since there is no solution to the problem. In the mean time at least let me adapt to the new SD vision , unbeleivable!.

BTW , It is funny that in some cases the Solar Outage does not affect completly the signal, one would assume that right behind the SAT , the RF Solar Radiation would be so intense that even the best aligned Dish would at least loose the signal for a couple of minutes. But that was not the case , or maybe it happened but I was not able to see it. During the week I was recording several shows from several sats to compare but maybe with Bell 82W & 91W it happened but I did not record the exact TP at the exact time it happened. who knows?.

SD FAN,

My Momma always told me not to look into the sun, but Momma, that's where the fun is! Ha Ha!

Your not not supposed to look directly at it!

I don't usually have a problem with the signal dropping when using a Ku Band, offset dish. This year is the first that I have used a 1.2 M dish and I was viewing a weak TP on 101.0W and happened to notice the difference with the solar outage. I assume that it was mostly due to the weaker signal that allowed me to detect the solar outage. A higher power signal may have remained above the elevted noise floor caused by the solar radiation.

Yeah I hear you, I guess I had the stupid at the highest level yesterday. Time to move on , not big deal.

It does not matter if it is a prime focus or an off set dish , even if it is a multiple LNB dish it will get affected the same way since the radiation will reflect off the dish in the same way the satellite signal does it.

You said you dont usually have a problem with the signal dropping through the Solar Outage , I guess you probably meant You do not usually see a problem with the picture nor the audio but if you check the signal level by pressing info on the receiver you will see it always drop and considerably to the minimum BTW, just that for some signals it does not drop below enough.

Yes, most often I don't notice because the signal quality is high enough that I do not detect a change in the video or audio quality. If I had been monitoring the quality meter, I would have detected it.

Several Dish offers showed up today in my account. Once you choose one the rest are removed. Offers were Showtime, Starz, AMC and others.

Just checked my account and it shows mgm+ at 8.00 per month, but that has red line drawn thru it and shows 0.00 per month. But it doesn't say how long this lasts,...... 1 month, 3 months, forever. I called customer service to get an answer, and they said nothing like that exists. Should I add the offer or not? Already paying them too much, but want to take advantage of something free.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.

You have a different offer that is free for a shorter timeframe which is different than the one that I and bnewt saw without defining the promotion period as I sent the question to DISH Care via Facebook Messenger and this is the response I got back 20 minutes ago.

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

I like the new look, it's a lot cleaner. I'm using it on one of those Onn streaming devices when I travel.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Don't tell them that. They'll adopt planned obsolescence.

Outside of gaming, would Joe Sixpack notice any difference?

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

they all do that anyways.. ever notice your cell phone slows down when you come up for an upgrade.. :what. apple's been making money off of software and not hardware for a while

No. Makes me wonder if that is Apple or the carrier. I am on pre-paid, so I never get "an upgrade." I still have my old iPhone 11 Pro as a second line, and it runs iOS 27 just fine. My iPhone Air, which is still a current model, doesn't really seem that much faster in regular use. It is better in other ways, and worse in some ways than the 11 Pro (size), but performance really isn't a big differentiator, especially since I replaced the battery in the 11 Pro. If I had gotten enough storage when I originally bought the 11 Pro, it could still be my primary device with no issues.

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.

What software? For iPhones? I tried to buy some image s/w IN THE APPLE STORE! They had none, and could not offer ANY s/w for iPhones

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.
