What would be the advantage ( if any ) of looping out of one receiver to another?

It seems to me that whatever sat the controlling receiver is set to, would also be

for the looped receiver.....and if you are using the same tv, wouldn't you need an

A/B switch? Is it just to be able to add another tv, say to another room? I ask

because I see the loop out ports on both receivers, and I can't really see the benefit.

Wow I am confused as pie...I have a Nuesat and a Uniden Supra Hooked to a splitter so I can use the C-Band LNB on both boxes. I also have an A/B for Ku/C-band on the Neusat. No DC Blocks at all. I can turn off LNB power on the Neusat settings so I don't need power from the Neusat to the C-Band LNB I just let the Uniden do that for me. On the Loop out from the Neusat I have a Dreambox 7020 hooked up and I use it to record because it has a built in Hard Drive. I always have the Neusat off IF I am using the DB. The power stays on all the time on the Uniden Supra. But I have never actually used a DC Block of any kind. Maybe I am just lucky...I never saw a real need to use a DC block but maybe I should consider it before something smokes besides my pipe! By the way I have had this same hookup for several years and never had any issues that I know of...

I'm guessing that you're using a 1 leg power pass splitter, which is pretty much the same thing as using a DC-block there. I am confused about what kind of A/B switch you're using. If it's a diseqC A/B, then those generally need power from the receiver, so I don't understand how it would work with the Nuesat off, but maybe you're refering to some kind of mechanical switch?

But it may be that your only issue is between the Neusat and the Dreambox, and you might be lucky with respect to the design of the Neusat passthru.... I don't know.

no Diseqc

No DiseQc Switches at all...The A/B switch is just that it's a mechanical switch. The splitter is just a cheap splitter I picked up some place. The Neusat is turned off but it displays the clock. So the main power switch on the back is on. If you turned off the main switch on the back then of course you can't use the loop out if cuts the signal off to the Dreambox.

Ok let me try to give you a better idea.

The LNB for C-Band is split. One jumper goes directly to the Uniden.
2. From splitter side 2, it goes to the mechincal A/B switch
3. From the out of the A/B switch it goes to the Neusat
4. On A/B switch side 3 I have located the Ku Satellite Lnb ( the reason for that is because I have 2 dishes one large 10 foot C-band located in one place and a smaller Ku Band Dish located in another) I could have used a DiseQC here but found it worked far better in the manner I have it connected. I would have still had to use a splitter to feed the Uniden anyway. I use the Satellite Meter on the Uniden to locate satellites. It was a pain having to unhook and hook up every time I needed to make a change. In the case of using a DiseQc I might would had to use a DC block to keep from toasting the Diseqc. Another reason of course the need to switch from Vert to Horz using the Uniden. I could of course still do that but for tuning I prefer to have the Uniden hooked up.

5. From the loop out from Neustat I go directly to Dreambox

To switch between Ku and C-Band I just press the button and you're off and running.

The power that would normally come out of the Neusat to feed the LNB is set to OFF for satellites C-BAND but on for KU Band. That is located in the software setup.

My concern is DC coming from the Uniden back to either the Neusat or Dreambox or them Sending in DC to the Uniden.

That being said it might would help people if we could find a diagram that gives instruction on how to correctly use and install DC Blocks.

I have a couple here but I wasn't sure where they should be or which Direction they should be turned in line. The kind I have appear to go inline as one side is female and the orther male.

The Loop out feature it would be my guess would have some sort of DC blocking as to not damage either reciever. No where in my manual does Neusat suggest any type of DC block be used. The diagram shows the jumper connected Directly to the 2nd reciever. Same for my Pansat which has a Loop out, the diagram shows the jumper connected directly to the 2nd receiver and no mention is made of any type of DC blocks. They must assume that power would be coming from the 2nd reciever to power and lnb or power coming from the main could damage the 2nd. Be my guess is no power comes from the main and 2nd powers the LNB? The loop is bound to be on a relay or electronic relay as it opens when the main power is turned off preventing any signal to the looped receiver.

As I said earlier it might be a good idea to have a diagram that shows the correct placement and direction in the line how DC blocks should be used when hooking up 2 receivers to the same lnb or whatever...

Still not sure if you're using splitters with a power pass leg or a splitter which is passthru on all legs.

Re which way to use a DC-block, that's interesting. I've heard about different types of splitters with passthru legs, one of which used diodes, and people suggested that they might not be reliable, and I've found that one of my splitters actually passed DC between some ports in one direction but not the other. But I've always assumed that stand alone DC blocks blocked equally in both directions, either double diodes or a capacitor. HOWEVER, I recently observed some strange behavior which suggested that DC blocks may behave differently in one direction compared to the other.

Basically what I observed, is that in the past, I haven't been too careful about when connecting a slaved receiver to a passthru, whether I put the DC block on the input of the slaved receiver or on the output of the master receiver, assuming that it would be the same. But recently I observed that one of my slaved receivers wouldn't work unless I put the DC block on it's input, rather than my usual way of putting the block on the passthru of the master. Actually, it stopped working, and only started working again when I put TWO blocks in line, one on master and one on slave, which would have them in opposite directions. So now, I'm not sure if one of my DC-blocks is bad, or if they are normally direction specific. I was too lazy to pull them out and test them. It's not easy to test them anyway, since you can't really test them with an ohmmeter. You pretty much have to hook them up to 18V, and check to see if you get the 18V going through them, which suggests that they use diodes... at least the splitter I had which failed still tested good with an ohmeter, but the test failed when I used an 18V test.

I think I'll pull out my Channel Master meter, which has a built in voltmeter and 13/18V source, and test these blocks that were giving me problems.

After hours

After hours of researching this and not really finding any set method of using DC Blocks I just disconnected the entire system.

I am now using my Neusat for Ku Only and have it connected to nothing else.

I'm using my Dreambox for C-Band and have it connected Directly to the C-Band LNB and the loop out goes back to the Uniden Supra LNB in.

Works fine but I ran into one issue, If the Uniden is turned off I can get Channels fine on one polarity which I think is vertical. Not positive about that. In order to get the horzontal I have to put the Uniden on that polarity and leave it on otherwise it reverts to vertical as the receiver bleeds down after turning it off.

This time I have a DC block on the Loop out of the Dreambox and A surge protection on the LNB in.

C-Band I have a surge protection on the LNB IN....

I don't understand why it reverts to the other polarity when the power turns off. Looks to me like if it switched to that it would stay there??

I can see nothing changing on the Dreambox as in Flickering or Freezes on the Screen when turning the power off and on with C-Band.. so that is a good sign I guess...

Good luck on testing your DC blocks this is interesting and tons of information but nothing I could really find that helped me with my setup.

The only thing I could find in my Dreambox Manual about the loop out was to make sure to place it in Deep Stand by when watching the analog receiver.

Nothing in the Uniden manual about it...
I
futher testing

I tested this futher and gave it a lot more time and If I power down the Uniden I can't get any channels on either polarity on the Dreambox.

I guess it must be something to do with the lnb settings but it's not a real issue for me to just leave the uniden on. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to damage either box.

This has been very interesting to read about all these different DC Blocks and switches...

Seriously would like to know other peoples findings concerning this DC Block and how they use their Analog receivers with their FTA equipment
B.J.
..... So now, I'm not sure if one of my DC-blocks is bad, or if they are normally direction specific. ......

I did some testing of the 2 DC-blocks involved in the above observation, and both stop DC in either direction. So I don't understand WHY the downstream receiver would only work on this one feed when I either had the one block reversed or used 2 blocks. Doesn't make any sense, and I can't remember now what specific feed was involved, so I can't try it again.
I DID, however ALSO test the passthru output of the particular receiver I was using at the time, ie the Diamond 9000, and I found that it DOES seem to pass DC out of the passthru, so if this receiver were hooked up without a DC-block, there would be a problem. I don't know if the Diamond was always like this, or if some component in the circuitry went bad, but it's definately giving off DC now.
I also tested my Azbox, my Twinhan 1020a, my Fortec Ultra, and my Fortec Mercury (I didn't test my Fortec Lifetime or Coolsat 8100, but will try those later when I get a chance). The Twinhan, Ultra and Mercury did not give off any voltage out of the passthru. The Azbox seemed to have a very small amount of DC leakage, ie less than a half volt (compared to the Diamond with gave out the full LNBF voltage). What I don't want to test, because it has caused problems in the past, is to test to see which if any of these receivers will pass DC through the passthru from the slaved receiver to the lnb when the master receiver is switched off or turned off. Apparently this works with some receivers but not with others.

Thanks BJ

Thanks Bj for you thoughts and testing time! This has been a real hoot to read about and learn. I am still confused as I was but at least I have some nice reading behind me.

I started another thread hoping to get some input from others who have a master and slaved system. Seems so far not a lot of interests in this thread or the new one.

I have been using the same setup for several years and never had a problem with it. Guess I was just lucky...

Today just out of purely being bored. I connected a Pansat up as the Master and Uniden as the slave and it did exactly the same as the Dreambox.

Just to make things fun, I hooked up a Yard Sale Neusat and it did exactly as the Pansat and Dreambox.
Configured as Master they all do the same thing!

The only receivers I have that are brand new or was new at one time is the Uniden and Dreambox 7020. My boss purchased the DB for me In England and I owned the Uniden and purchased it brand new moons ago!

All of my other receivers I purchased from Yard sales so they could have had some issues before I got them. If all my receivers are acting in the same manner it would say either they are all working correctly or everyone of them has a defect.

In this last go around I have No DC blocks in line and only kept the surge protectors in line and which made no differences as I could see.

I did notice with all receivers tested I had to leave the Uniden on. However I did discover that I could turn off the Uniden and Master at the same time. Leave the Uniden OFF for say 5 minutes and then Turn the Master and watch tv on one polarity. The Dreambox only uses Diceqc to switch polarity so I have to control that with the Uniden which means I have to turn it on to change channels that are on another polarity. Now that is confusing because IF you turn them both on at the same time and then turn off the slave the channels go black on the current polarity but you can change the master to channels located on the other polarity and watch tv again. Sometimes though after about 10 minutes they disappear and changeing channels doesn't seem to do anything. Now walking in have the Uniden off and Turn on the Master DB and watch TV with no drops at all on the one polarity..WHICH BOGGLES MY MIND!

The Pansat can switch so it isn't an issue with polarity for it...

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

There are contracts on streaming services. If you want a cheaper price you have to sign up for a year and pay the full amount. If you want to cancel you can but you don't get any money back. They don't cancel it until that yearly subscription ends. So if you don't want a contract you have to pay the higher monthly fee. But at least now you have a choice which way to go.

Yeah if you know you are going to be there for that long you can definitely save some money. Disney+ and Hulu both have yearly deals but not if you bundle them. You have to just go monthly when you bundle them.

I have 2 that I know I'll do for sure year round, thats Netflix and Paramount Plus ...
The others I use fron time to time, although Hulu I find myself using this past year (I have it in a Bundle with ESPN and Disney) Surprisingly, I find ESPN almost useless.

Comcast Corporation, one of the largest telecommunications and media conglomerates in the United States, has shed more than 13 million pay-TV subscribers since reaching its zenith in the late 2000s. The company's video subscriber base, which includes traditional cable television services, stood at approximately 24.2 million customers toward the end of 2008. By the close of the first quarter of 2026, that figure had plummeted to roughly10.95 million, representing a loss of about 13.25 million subscribers, or more than half of its historical peak.

The average monthly cost of cable television in the United States has climbed to $147, marking a significant increase that reflects broader trends in media consumption and rising operational expenses for providers. This figure represents the baseline expense for standard television packages across major cable operators, excluding additional fees for premium channels, equipment rentals, or taxes that often push household bills even higher.

This is without Broadband services ( bundled), also, paying a lot more for a lot less new scripted content and now….sports.

Anyone know how Canadians are doing with cord cutting? I would think there could be added incentive simply in that Canadian cable/sat has been heavily regulated to exclude much of US content in order to promote home content. Streaming would seem to cut through any of that, presuming there aren't restrictions on that as well. Or maybe US streamers won't sell there?

Wasn't there a law passed a long time back mandating service providers level the sound from one ch. to the next? Or was that just for within any single given ch., and not letting commercials be boosted? Regardless it's a pain on DiSH with some ch's way louder than others, and having to jockey the sound up & down. Is there some fix? Can some TVs compensate for this?

depend on how you tv and box is setup? as both have "audio" leveling

for me if I have audio leveling on hopper enabled DD is lower then Stereo if i turn off on h3 turn on tv it the reverse. Almost ALL streaming channels much lower volume level then statalite channels.

Either way one my pet peaves is that even channel seem to have it own "audio level" and so to commericals and none of the actual audio leveling functions actual fix this and never have. would be nice if every channel dish/dtv/fios etc all made volume level defualt to same dB so atlest all channel where consistent volume probably wont help commercials though.

To my knowledge no TV has ever had audio leveling function that actual fixed that all it really does it either lower or raise the volume

Most stuff has all this volume leveling, almost all them dont work the way should or advertised as. maybe "ai" versions of volume level will work closer to way we would like to which make all channels and inputs same defualt sound level, including commercials

There is reason my entire mp3/audio music collection on my pc was changed to have same defualt "dB" for all files via something like MP3Gain so there all same defualt volume level and there for I never have to play around with my volume. I know Winamp could change dB defualts but never worked as good as just manual changing all the audio/mp3/music collection files to just be all the same

But doesn't music require a lot of dynamic range? At least classical & the like? So there has to be allowance for some highs without attenuation, and some lows without boosting. It seems there needs to be some kind of a universal median level that all sources can register to, that still allows for both soft and loud intermittently. My dad always had westerns on and the gunshots really rang out

That's a fundamental issue with volume levels - it's not just that people want some "level" but that the material itself can demand (or at least so says the creator) a wide dynamic range or a smaller one. ie: do you boost the typical conversations upward and use most of your range just for voices? Or do you leave room for the explosions and jet engines. Creators and viewer/listeners all vary in their priorities, and most volume-leveling products are trying to do things in real time so they have very little context to work with. Even when using a tool that reads a whole file and displays a peak volume, you can wonder how often such a volume occurs and then you can disagree on how important it is for something like an explosion to have any clipping/distortion.

I think the OP refers to the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, AKA the CALM act. But as the name suggests, I think it only has to do with commercials and not different sources.

By the way, if you watch westerns with realistic gunshot sound levels, I recommend hearing protection. :)
T
I will say this on PC it worse one game is one volume level by defualt another is super quiet and another deafening loud, and volume leveling dont equalize it. The dynamic range isnt the problem the defualt volume is not same from channel to channel, commercial to commercial game to game.

To mean volume leveling is defeat volume level from source to source channel to channel, commercial to commercial, game to game.

Default volume level of 89.9 dB across the board fixes that tv providers can easily do this from there end and mandate commercial creators follow it, but it wont ever happen

Maybe volume leveling means somthing else to other people

This only if anything seems to be worsening on DiSH. Ch. 215 is a prime example. It's typically much louder than other ch's, and today I notice it even contradicting itself, shifting drastically up and down inexplicably over periods of several minutes. Oddly, the quietest periods have come during commercials...

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Interesting. I remember that being HD-only for a bit a long time ago and then it was back to SD-only.

looking at the old maps, that was from March 2017 to June 2019.

Starz is apparently dropping all of the west coast feeds of their networks tomorrow. FiOS has already dropped most of the ones they carried and I imagine DirecTV would be affected with STZw on 526 and SENw on 536.

seems to actually only be affecting their sister channels, not the main channels

Starz, Starz Encore and Starz Encore Westerns are keeping their west coast feeds. The rest of the Starz, Starz Encore and Plex channels will only have East coast feeds

Did anyone have a price increase today on their equipment? I own my VIP211k's, and they have been $5.00. My bill that I received last week shows the "add-ons" as being $5.00. However, I just logged into my Dish account, and my "add-ons" are now $10.00. Did the additional receivers go up by $5.00 recently?

As I mentioned, my last bill shows $5.00 and under the notes, nothing is mentioned about a price increase.

The cable company I was with years ago did charge $9.99 for a receiver.

I went to try to add the Heartland channel as dummy to see what it would do for me as I own my receiver and have DISH Outdoors and this is what mine shows. (Note however I had to take the 2nd receiver I told you I added the other day off because I was told you can only have 1 receiver when you have a one outlet on the Dish Playmaker and was having issues with the 2nd receiver and I didn't know that and that was done yesterday as well so I am back to one receiver.)

I asked again, and the rep I talked to said it is a glitch and that "Access for TV" shouldn't be there - the rep pulled up my future month bills and that charge isn't on it. So I am not going to worry about it right now, but it will be interesting to see when the price changes happen later this year. Will this line item show up? The fact that it is a specific item that is different from anything makes me think it is more than a glitch. But we shall see.

I am hoping they don't add this down the road. Things are expensive the way it is now. Even DIRECTV allows the first receiver free. This would go against DISH and DISH is already loosing subscribers I wouldn't think they would do these kind of tricks but you never know. Always look at your bills for unknow charges. I heard horror stories of people getting charged for things they didn't know were there.

I feel like this was discussed in another thread, but I can't find it. I have T-Mobile and my last iPhone upgrade was in 2020. I want to get a new iPhone, but what is the best way to go about doing it? Should I order the iPhone from T-Mobile directly, or should I buy from the Apple Store? I feel like there are pros/cons to each option.

Hello everyone, new guy here. I'm trying to solve problem I'm having with Dish bonus view channels. When I'm watching the bonus view channels then I switch back to regular dish channels, after few minutes the screen flips to black and after 30 seconds flips back to regular channels and continues to flip back and forth until I turn off TV. After I wait 30 minutes and turn back on , I can use regular channels again. So, its after I switch from bonus view channels to regular dish channels the problem starts. Been trying to fix this for a month, but no luck
Here what I've done.
i contacted Dish support and they sent me a new Joey3, but no help. Switched to a different HDMI input on TV, no help. Used different HDMI cable , no help. Used different electrical wall plug, no help.
Finally got a Dish tech to check it. He ran all systems check and was OK. Finally he brought in a small TV and plugged in the HDMI out from the Joey to the small TV. He could not get the problem to occur on his small TV, so the new Joey was working OK. So, then the problem must be myTV. He made some phone calls and came back with the answer that there must be a problem with the analog to digital switch in my TV. Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this, or is it time to be looking for a new TV? My tv LG OLED65C8PUA. TV has been trouble free til now. Thanks

First off, great TV. I'm torn between the 77C5 or the 77G5.
It sounds like the handshake between the Receiver and the TV is having a problem. Are you using the free cable that came with the Joey or a higher speed HDMI cable?? That's the f irst place I'd look

First off, The analog to digital switch, also known as the digital television transition, is the process of converting older analog television broadcasting technology to digital broadcasting. It's used through coaxial cable for the an antenna during the mandatory switch from Analog to Digital on June 12, 2009. You either had to get a converter for your analog (Tube TV) or use a converter box that has the analog or digital tuner or an HDTV which your is and has the tuner built in. Your TV is HD and using an HDMI Cable and nothing is connected by coaxial cable so this wouldn't apply.

In my theory it probably means a new TV. I had a TV go out on my switching between the Smart Screen from the HDMI inputs before because they went faulty. Sometimes electrical surges can cause this. If you have an older home or rent an older home or apartment sometimes the electrical outlets are not grounded and these days HDTV's need a ground which can cause them to malfunction and go bad quicker. Never plug it directly in an outlet. It will damage the TV.

Hope I could be of some assistance.

Mexico takes on South Africa to open the World Cup Final (it is called the Final... this just isn't the World Cup Final... Final). The tournament has been plagued with rife malfeasance as FIFA has been committing all sorts of fraud with the ticket sales. Hotel rooms have gone unfilled as the prices to attend a game and stay somewhere are through the roof. I swear this is impacting Mansfield, OH hotel rates which are higher than average for the Indycar race. And there is a broadening VAR presence which will ruin things as nothing worse now when scoring a goal and knowing you can't quite celebrate yet as they check to see if a player was offside by a pixel a half-hour ago.

The Group Stage used to mean something, but now 32 of the 48... yeah, 48 teams are going to the Knockout Round. Getting into the Knockout Round used to be a big deal, even for the US. But now... if you don't lose all of your group stage games, you get to move on. Oi! And this is avoiding all the political stuff!

I have never been so unexcited for a World Cup before. Every game used to matter. But FIFA be darned if they don't try to squeeze out every dime they can out of the players, refs, and fans.
