Just purchased the Direct TV Hughes DVR-80 receiver yesterday at Best Buy and yes I now know that I have to run TWO lines into the back of the receiver to get full functionality of the Tivo/DVR service (ie. taping two things at once). I have a triple LNB receiver with 3 receivers in the house, therefore since the triple LNB satellite has a built in multiswitch with 4 ports, I have one that is not currently occupied.

Here is my problem. The sattelite is located on the very opposite corner of where my other cables enter the house and are grounded. The TV that I want to go is literally 8 feet from my sattelite just inside the outside portion of the house where the sat. is. My other cables are buried going to the other side of the house and I would rather just drill into the side of the house right by the satellite to feed this second cable to the receiver. Question is can I just run it into the house and into the receiver or do I have to run it all the way to the othe side of the house, ground it and then run it all the way back for my second line? This delimma really comes down to grounding. Do I need to ground this additional line? If so, can I ground it independantly from the other line and not have to run cable all the way over just to ground? I have a huge steel support beam that goes across the house just inside the crawl space right by the satellite, it would be cool if I could just attach to it if I need to ground this second line or I guess I could put a grounding rod in. The easy way would be to just run the cable into the house right there and not ground it, but I'm afraid of the issues. I need some advice please.

As long as your dish itself is grounded you don't have to worry about grounding the coax lines.

That may be bad advice. The NEC says quite the opposite, as may the local building codes for the area where you live.
Neutron
I'm going off how mine is set up. Mine coax lines go to a grounding block and both it and the dish are grounded.

Let phrase what I said earlier better. Provided his was installed properly he should be able to install the coax that he needs and not worry about having to ground it. Depends on if he has a spare hookup on his grounding block.

Here's a picture of mine.

The edit looks much better. :)

I got a couple of PMs regarding my post (why not just post?) and while I am sure it has been hashed over and over and over again, in a nut shell (NOT A DIRECT QUOTE OF THE CODE) this is what the NEC says:

+ The mast of the antenna must be grounded to the common ground of the structure.
+ Each cable must be grounded to the common ground as close as possible to the entry of the structure.
K
Ok, I just checked my set up and it appears to me that my satellite guy never grounded the actual dish, just the coaxial lines that are attached to the ground block. So now I'm assuming that I will need to run a ground wire 60 feet around the house all the way to the ground block that is attached to the home ground rod. I will also need to plug in my coaxial cable to the existing vacant LNB port on my triple LNB dish and run it all the way around the house as well to the ground block and then all the way back to the receiver for my 2nd line into my dual receiver (DVR).

This seems pretty straightforward, but it will just be a pain because of the amount of cable I am going to have to run to get the job done.

The system needs to be grounded!

The system needs to be grounded. Adding a new ungrounded cable is not the answer.

First, I ditch the cable connection from the dish to the place where you are putting the DirecTivo. Run two new cables for the 8 feet or so directly to the Tivo from the dish with the cables going through the wall. Use a dual grounding block mounted horizontally (with drip loops). Run either a 10 or 8 ga. copper wire to the big metal beam that you mention. As a professional, I have special UL clamps for beams on mobile homes, but you can use a 1/4" machine bolt and nut, if you drill a 1/4" hole within 1/2" of the edge of the beam. Run the ground wire through the old and the new grounding blocks.

At a point on the beam closest to the electrical panel, run 10 or 8 ga, copper conductor to the main panel grounding and connect it with a "split bolt."

This might not comply with NEC 2002, but it does comply with previous versions and makes the installation much safer. If the original installer grounded the cables to a separate grounding rod, this would bond the ground to the house system ground.

Just finished S2. Watching Gary Oldman as deshvilved, dejected MI-6 agent, Jackson Lamb, is one of the best things streaming right now. Already 2 more seasons in the works. HIGHLY recommended. And yes, Mick Jagger sings the theme.

I think this new season is a little too slow of a burn (as of ep #4, probably due to new show runner. However, I can't wait to find out what's up with Taverner!

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Planning to start the new season tonight. :)

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

Yep. We do this all the time, but we use the 30-sec skip forward button until the red kangaroo shows up. Love this feature.

I'm a bit confused about the recording methods.
Do you havePrime Time Anytime enabled, by doing that you don't have to set recordings for Prime time programs on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox stations, it's done daily, 7 days a week.
And only 2 weeks recordings are saved, no deletions either.

Correct. If you enable PTAT, you don't have to set other timers for those programs. You can choose all of the 4 networks or as few as you want. You also can choose all 7 days or other options. However the programs will auto delete after 8 days unless you save that episode or save the whole series.

Wait…..
So even though DAZN keeps touting 'only way to see games' if you are a subscriber to Choice (like my stepdad) if an agreement is reached he can see the Wolfies on 668?
I know the Wild are in dispute and a slate is on 668-1.

They're finally live in the app's API, doing a check

PISTONS is not available in Detroit (WMYD/20), it is available in the rest of Michigan including Marquette who also gets the games on their MyNet station WJMN/3, along with the Toledo DMA and the northern portions of the South Bend and Fort Wayne DMAs.

THUNDER is available in OKC and Tulsa, so I wonder if DTV is just going to keep the OTA feeds of KSBI/52 and KQCW/19 and direct viewers to 675 for the rest of the games.
On stream it's in Choice for Oklahoma (inlcuding the Oklahoma portions of the Amarillo, Sherman-Ada, Wichita Falls-Lawton and Joplin DMAs) and Western Arkansas and requires Sports Pack for Nebraska, Kansas and Western Missouri, I'm not sure if it's the same for satellite.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I had one, the front panel lighting was cool, the menus were fresh and a lot more modern looking than the ViPs. However, it was very buggy and the Sling functionality just didn't work well - I think it was due to internet speeds at the time. I think I had to pay $40 for the Sling app on my phone iirc.

I had both the 921 and the 922. I used to buy them from DishDepot.com in Florida and trade in my older owned receiver towards the newest receiver. The 921 was a reboot receiver and the sling part was hit or miss. I look back on all those receivers I paid for over 25 years and I think it was just TV. If I had that money back now I would be lot richer. My Owned Hopper 3 is sitting in a drawer in my office not being used.

That was part of the Ergen scheme, to sell the product as well as the service. And who didn't want the best box?

Maybe they went to the hopper because they were running out of 3-digit model #s- 1022 would have been kinda clunky. Folks would have tried to say "one-thousand and twenty two" instead of "ten-twenty-two".

Like some say "two thousand and twenty six".

That's not really unusual. Cable companies like to the provide the box too. The phone company provided the phones in until the government forced them to allow third-party phones.

Amazon Sets 'The Lord of the Rings' TV Series In Mega Deal With Multi-Season Commitment

$250 Million just for the rights to make something :eeek

The LOTR original series, a prequel to Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment, which produced the hugely successful LOTR movie franchise.

Set in Middle Earth, the television adaptation will explore new storylines preceding Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring.

Two friends recommended this show to me and I was hooked by the second ep of season 1! Production values are amazing and the episode runtimes are (typically) over an hour, which makes it really easy get hooked on the story because they're playing it out with movie-like pacing rather than a 34-40 minute episode. Acting and casting is really good as well!

I got started on season 2 a few nights ago and was wondering if anyone else is watching?

I am amazed you like it.

Made it thru season 1, thought it was terrible, but wanted to give it a chance, made it to halfway on Season 2, Episode 2, just could not take it anymore.

It like they took the worse Lord of the Rings fan-fiction off the internet and made it into a TV Series.

Yes, the production values are high, but that does not make it into a good series.

They're taking a lot of this from The Silmarillion, of which I'm not quite a third of the way through yet, and sure, they've invented some new people, places and situations, but it's still (IMHO) a really good prequel to LOTR. Having only just started season 2, I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. I'm really not seeing the fan-fic angle in it. If season 2 proves to be as enjoyable as season 1 was for me, I'd sure like to see a 3rd season.
