I've been a loyal Dish subscriber for about 9 years now. Got the 501 DVRs, then the 508 and am now on to a pair of the dual 722 HD boxes.

I moved recently and after hearing all the ads in the past on what to do when you move, I called up and requested dish mover. I remembered it as a free service...you leave your dishes w/ all switches and wiring at the old place (Dish now has a base for a new customer) and they'll come install what you need at the new place! As has probably already been discussed here, that is no longer the case.

I was quoted $100+ (I forget the exact amount) just to move and use dish mover. Or, I could get on their service plan and then it'd only be $15. They informed me I could cancel the plan at any time in the future (for a $25 cancellation fee). I wasn't happy about it, but it was my only option so I chose that route.

They came, did an okay job (missed one appointment, did okay on the second), then I got a bill for an additional $50, plus some other fees I wasn't expecting, but were creditted to me. The $50 was to install a second dish. I pointed out that I had two Dishes at the old house, and would have taken it with me if I knew they were going to charge me that (unquoted) on top of the other fees. This prompted a conversation with a very rude supervisor, I asked for another supervisor and was put on hold for well over an hour! (no, I wouldn't normally wait that long but I put the phone on speaker and did some painting).

Anyway, the experience so soured me with Dish that I wouldn't recommend them to anyone else and if/when I move again I'll change services. With Verizon FIOS, DirectTV and Comcast all offering solid plans to my house, I would have thought Dish would work just a little harder to keep a long term customer. I know they have costs as well, but I could sign up as a new customer for cheaper than I was charged for being loyal.

I guess it was the experience, on top of the automated customer service, long hold times and unfriendly and unhelpful operators that sealed the deal.

Dish...I still have 'em, but wouldn't recommend 'em. What a pain in the butt they are.

I hear you, but note that those are new terms. Additionally, when I was on the phone setting up the move I very clearly asked what all the charges would be. I was not directed to a website for details, and I was not told about the additional $50. They were looking on the screen at my account and knew I had 3 receivers, 2 dishes, and a few switches and I wanted the exact same setup at the new place. When I called back with my bill and stated I was charged a fee which was not previously disclosed to me, the response was "but that is a valid fee." "But I was not told of this fee." "but this is a valid fee." ...etc.

Used to be free. You call them, you leave the gear at the old place, bring your receivers with you, they set you up at the new place, shake your hand and you're off to paying your typical $100+ / month bill like nothing happened.

So, I'm not saying this policy is not currently documented, just that is is stupid in the current competitive market place. Or maybe I'm just saying that it pissed me off. Yeah, nobody can dispute with that one. :)

I believe the DISHMOVER program changed as of February 1st.

It was free, but now is $15 is you have the protection plan or $90 if you do not.

Prior to Feb. 1, E* subs got one free Dishmover per lifetime. If you had DHPP, you had unlimited free Dishmovers. There was always a charge for a second antenna to the best of my knowledge. I did battle with them myself over this issue a year ago. What I don't understand is why you now have two antennas. Everyone, with some exceptions, is supposed to be either pure western arc or pure eastern arc now. I hope you don't have a D500 for 110/119 and another for 61.5. If you do, call them and have them come take that away and give you a 1000.4 instead as that's what should have happened in the first place. If you have the mixed arc set up I noted, you will have to have them back out, possibly at your expense, to get a 1000.4 anyway. The national HD is leaving 61.5 at yearend based on current plans.

Interesting. Let me explain my setup and you tell me if I should be calling 'em back! (I'm not happy, at all, about how my cables were routed on the house as it is)

I have two 722 receivers (2 dual tuner, obviously).
I then hook up my old 508 as a guest room television.
He told me that I wouldn't have needed the 2nd Dish if I didn't have the 508.

Not knowing about the 1000.4 Dish, I just figured they didn't have enough LNBs on the one Dish to handle the 5th tuner. ?

Thanks for the info, either way!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Also watched part 2 about a week or so ago after rewatching part 1. It's not as faithful to the book as I was hoping for. Part 1 stayed fairly faithful to the novel, but part 2 took some liberties that I felt were rather excessively non-novel. It looks like a prequel series will happen before part 3. My issue is: there's no prequel that was written as a novel, so what will it be pulled from? Or will it just be "based loosely" on the novel?

There is a bunch of other Dune written by Kevin J Anderson and Brian Herbert (Franks son). I think the series in production is taken from one of their books about the Bene Gesserit.

Correct. I've read all of them (yes, it took awhile, better part of a year, in my spare time). And they can't really consider or classify a series about the Bene Gesserit as a prequel. Sure, I suppose they can call it that, if they want to, because it begins before the time of Paul Atredies, but it's still a stretch. It's a Dune-related novel, not a prequel as we generally think of prequels...

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

I am 1 that wants the AM to Stay ....
That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

most carriers do. that's why they send updates that slow phones down!! i buy unlocked phones no effect to me

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)
