BBC HD needs a 3rd dish??

ok, I'm a little behind the times and only just realized that Dish Network now has BBC America in HD. I noticed I wasn't getting that channel, so I contacted Dish Network and they're saying I need a 3rd dish in order to receive that channel. What's the deal? Is there any way to do this without having 3 dishes annoying my wife? I'm in VT and currently have the Top 250 + gold HD.

Yes. Took an 1 1/2 hrs start to finish. Absolutely no surprises. Besides researching here I also got good info from Burlington, VT - HDTV - AVS Forum . The last few pages you can see some of us talking about the options etc. Very helpful folks in our neck of the woods.:D.

Hi all, isn't NASA, CSPAN and a bunch of CD music on 77w? If the OP is setup only on 61.5 and 72 I would think he would be missing those channels. Because 77w is weak in the N.E. wouldn't a 1000.4 dish for 61.5 and 72 then a wing 500 dish for one of the 110/119 pairs fill in the missing channels? The reason I said 110/119 is I'm not sure if both are needed or just one to get the missing channels. The OP should have the LNBs for either option from the previous install. Hope this helps, DC

NASA, CSPAN and all music channels are on 72 (72.7)

I had a similar install yesterday, and in my case I opted to keep the second dish, so I can get 110. So I now have the 1000.4 dish (replacing my old 61.5 dish), that gets me 72.7, 77 and 61.5 and I also get 110 from the old Dish500. In reality, I cold've went with a sigle dish (I only get 2 SD local channels, which I never watch off 110), but I figured since I already have the second dish on my roof, I better keep it there, rather than worry how well the tech fixes the holes on the roof after removing the dish.

By the way, if you want to see which channels (including locals) are coming from which satellite, our forum has a very valuable tool: "The List". It is linked at the very top of each page, just below the SatelliteGuys logo. Just click on it, select "Subscription List Home" and then select the satellite you want to check out, e.g. "DISH Network 77.0°W". You will see the list of all channels available there, including the names of the cities for locals. The nice thing about this list, is that it's very accurate: as I understand, it is automatically updated with every new uplink report. Pretty cool!

I just got "upgraded" to the Eastern Arc also but

The technician said I might lose some of my spanish language channels, which I did. Apparently he was not aware that you could have a 4-satellite set-up (neither did I until reading some of this forum). What he did was cut the cable going to my Dish 500 that was pointed to the 110-119 setup. I had the 61.5 wing dish from the old VOOM days. So there is no reason I can't call them back, get the dish reconnected and have my international programming again? Surely Dish Network will provide international programming on both the Eastern and Western Arcs someday!

would probably also work well for NHK on 101W and possibly for PBS on 99W. I used one for a while on 30W. Just keep in mind that because it's undersized for those satellites, it might work fine in clear weather but won't have much margin to account for signal degradation during rain/snow

If you can find one, the Shaw / Star Choice 75e ellipticals are great for use on 97, 99, and 101W. They are really just rebranded ChannelMaster 75 cm reflectors and use linear LNBFs by default out of the box.

Everyone else's mileage may vary.

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit :) )

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
