Now that D* became the first provider to provide not only movies, but sports and entertainment related programming, all in HD all the time! Who's jumping ship? I saw this coming! People here never believed me. Between Dish loosing channels (even if they didn't loose the Disney channels) and D* now launching a boat load of movie channels, its hard not to take a look at Directv. With these movie launches, Dish just lost the upper hand in the movie arena which was the only place dish had a stronghold of in the programming department.

Charlie,

I don't know what it is but when I start screaming, maybe you all should take a look and actually do what I'm saying. Im screaming for a reason, and its not that I want to complain, (I hate to do it, but I love the company so much that Ill play the heel (bad guy) if it gets you to change for the better) God forbid I'm actually right! BTW I'm 5 for 5 in all of my predictions. Hate to say it but I told you so! Now what's gonna happen from here, is were going to start seeing subscriber losses, It wont happen over night, but it works like Novocaine, slow and effective. The advertising department might keep the ship afloat for a while (maybe just enough) but we will eventually see it, if the status quo stays the same.

The only way to fix this, is repair the damage with Disney, Rainbow Media, and launch HD RSN's. From there you might have to work some magic with the MLB, and maybe with the NFL once Sunday ticket renewal comes up in a few years. It's not to late to repair the damage, but it will take allot of work. You still can be Number One, but it takes swallowing your pride and doing the unthinkable to get it done.

If you don't start now, especially with the transition to MPEG4 on WA, you might not be able to repair the ship before its fully sunk. D* just gave you a strong shot to your bow, how are you gonna respond? I'm, available for hire, if you want your problems fixed. But its gonna come, without any conditions.

Charlie, Your a good man, and a good friend, You just need to listen to the young people like me.. I'm not going to steer you wrong, not like others. You have nothing to worry about as I have nothing but love, even if it means breaking up like a bad relationship. You have a true ally with me, even if it doesnt appear like that. I just wish you guys would listen and respond quicker, because you wouldnt be in this situation if you did.

We know that. Every company has issues. Every company knows they have issues. The difference is we're not living under the delusion that we can do anything to help beyond either staying with them and supporting them, or moving to another company whose issues we can more comfortably deal with.

And if you're not asking people to drop Dish over Disney, why did you call this thread "So who's jumping ship?"

And just who are you, anyway? Do you own a satellite TV company? Do you own another company with the capital to partner with or take over Dish and lead it to a better way of doing things? Are you well known within the industry, a trusted adviser that companies can turn to when they need to?

Because unless you are, you're really not going to do anything to help anyone, least of all yourself. And if you are, why are you spending all your time here? Because you're living under a delusion that you can swoop in and save the poor Dish network from its horrible overlords. Maybe there's a white horse that carries you in. Maybe you just appear out of the sky, like an angel of mercy.

Come on. If somebody like me, who has been on this forum this short a time, can see it, maybe there's actually something to it? What do you really hope to accomplish? The only thing these companies respond to is money. If they're really as bad as you say, they'll learn it when people start leaving in droves, when the stock prices go down. That's really all any of us can do - put our money where our mouths are.

I'm sorry to be so blunt. But sometimes, things need to be said.

First of all it's attitudes like this that has made wallstreet and Corp America the stronghold it Is today. You have no room to question me as you don't know who I am or how long I have been in this industry! I have every right as a consumer / shareholder to question a publicly traded company who has to answer to the public! I have been in this industry longer than alot of people know and think. You don't need alot of money or run a company in order to help it, or be a trusted advisor.

Saying that you can't fix things is wrong because you can! Also does anyone remember enron? Dish is on the same path. Your attitude is exactly why companies like bp can destroy our gulf and get away with it. It's s shame.

It's quite apparent that people like you just don't get it that taking care of your coustomers will take care of you!!!! Instead all you see is. $$$$$$$$!

And like a true lemming you stick to the script and accept status quo. Status quo doesn't fly any more! It's posts like yours that keeps me fired up! The title has nothing to do with what I want, it's a general question to see if any one is jumping ship. Like a true misspoken lemming you read too much into it.

Nor have I asked you too.

FYI Bob, I've made my recommendation to management. But I would hope that you could just CALM DOWN for a few days. Would be a happier scenario. OK??

KAB, some of the problem is the personal attacks and the fact that some people on this site cant accept diffrent points of views. They dont see the underlining issues and dont choose too. I did walk away for a few days just to help the situation. When I did come back, a few continue to personally attack me. While I'm more than willing to take the scrutiny, some people around here do have to give the respect that I do have an oppinion, and that it might be differnent. Also people forget that I earned my right to free speech and I belive full hardedly that all people under our constitution should have the right. No matter what their viewpoint is. Its ok to debate, but not divide. Some people here want division and not debate.

Iceberg and others please stop the personal attacks.

Please stop before it gets out of hand. Hint remember the problems this site had two years ago. Scott please get involved before the personal attacks escalate like before .

Thank you.

Those aren't personal attacks they are what happened.

my post isn't a personal attack. Its a combination of fact (Bob had a meltdown a year ago almost to the day) and a question. If you remember in the pub area Bob posted a thread called "like clark kent, superman must hide" where he said he was going to tone it down.

Its funny how you guys see fit to throw around past anytime it sutes you. Yes I tried to tone it down, but unfortunatly that wasnt in the cards due to the crapoloa thats going on in the industry. Iceberg this is the 3rd time you have used the fact that I had a Meltdown... It seems like your the one who cant get over it.. Also, why is it you like to hide... Have no one know who you are or not meet the members who give you the opportunities you have. Is there something your hideing? Why not greet satelltieguys at CES or any other tradeshow?

How many of these threads have you started? Does it look like they're seriously working on improving the service in the areas you've called out?

If you want to make Dish change, get enough people cancel their subscriptions and force Dish to re-tool their packages.

I don't think anything is going to change unless something of that magnitude occurs. Just look at what has happened in the last 2 years - Dish didn't start aggressively adding HD channels until they were bleeding customers to DirecTV at a rate that made investors nervous.

Bottom line: If you feel the product is inferior, stop giving them money for doing a crappy job.

I try to keep things to one thread. I got the fact that people dont want multiple threads, wich is why others have died down. I have other ways in mind that will definatly get dish's attention. Nothing Illegal..... and Nothing involving the courts.. If they dont want to take me seriously, thats fine... Just remember this, Charlie had his opportinity to hire me.... If he would have hired me, What im about to start, would have never happended.

That's all im saying, untill the FCC paperwork is filed... :)

Its not a bluff, as I have been working on the patenting and its been submitted to the PTO and FCC licenceing will be filed very soon. I have to pull one of those XstreamHD things where I cant really talk about it but ill throw hints at you, especially since I'm working with about 30 different partners including equipment manufactures now (have been working the past 6 months), all of this is under the radar of Dish and Directv. (thats the best part) We have two main platforms. The fist one will allow you to take your TV with you anywhere you go to include ways of stopping content if your outside the USA (DRM like). That makes some content providers happy for those who want there content in the us only.

Our main platform every American has in there home today. No need to run fiber, no need to run satellite or cable. Infact, no need to run lines at all. It's a high speed product that many has just over looked and not even realized that they have it in there home today. In fact, every American homeowner and business has it Right Now! As soon as our STB's have rolled out and are geared to go (which includes various FCC and UL testing) Ill let you fully know what's going on. I have other main head end type of equipment that needs to get tested too. I'm well on my way of fully developing a product that will nock everyones socks off. There's No need for splitters, No need for LNB's Switches, and No need for Installers! I'm looking to do a very low cost STB that you can put on any TV in the home and just plug in. This is a game changer even for cable, (not only satellite) Its so forward thinking that it makes apple look ridiculous. On top of that we can market to every American.

What's really cool about it, is we can give you MASTER quality HD directly from the providers, delivered to you as there are virtually no limitations on the bandwidth. And once the service launches (in a few years) We can market it to EVERY American, NO line of site limitations, No cable limitations, No Uverse limitaitons, No fiber limitations. Oh BTW you will get your locals in HD, and every sub channel too! No limitations on how many channels you can get.

That's all I'm saying..

really?
So I guess the 5 or 6 members here in Minneapolis who I have installed Shaw Direct systems for don't count
I guess the 4 or 5 members here who I installed Bell ExpressVu systems dont count either
I guess when I've installed 5,6, hell I lost count dishes for stonephillips420 (oh btw happy birthday buddy!) and for a buddy of his I guess that dont count
I guess when I drove to Wisconsin to pick up a bunch of satellite parts and dishes from a member here dont count
I guess when I drove to Rochester, MN twice...both to meet up with satelliteguys..once to buy a dish and mount and the other to sell a Primestar and receiver to...I guess that dont count
When I have sold items that are too big to ship I have had folks come to my house and see the dish farm...but I guess they dont count
I guess when I have gone to install a KU dish for members who are having issues I guess that dont count
I guess when I have gone and tweaked some folks KU dishes for the North Dakota hockey games I guess that dont count
I guess when I offered to drive 250 miles one way to help iafirebuff back when he was having difficulties getting his KU setup working I guess that doesnt count either

see Bob I aint got NOTHING to hide.

As for CES or whatever....since you wanna play the game I'll play along
First off I DO NOT FLY...so unless they are held in Minneapolis or Milwaukee or somewhere close I aint going
2nd most of the time they were being held I was working...and work comes before play :)

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Does anyone here use Apple Home/HomeKit with HomePods or Apple TV to automate smart devices in their house? We have had Amazon's Alexa set up in our house for the last 10+ years and I have been waiting to switch them out to Apple for a few reasons; We are already in the Apple ecosystem with our phones, tablets, and computers. I have never liked Amazon's stance on privacy and I really like that Apple has pushed for privacy for a long time.

I bought 4 of the new HomePod Mini 2 speakers to go in various rooms in our house and we have one of the new Apple TVs on preorder that will be the start of me replacing our Rokus. I have the HomePod Mini 2s set up and have an RPi that is running HomeBridge for our legacy smart devices that worked natively with Alexa but don't work with Apple Home natively. I had trouble with the older smart bulbs not keeping the brightness or light color consistent with what our routines were with Alexa despite trying every setting in HomeBridge with the bulbs just not shining very bright. I ended up replacing them with updated versions that are Matter compatible so they work in Apple Home natively. That in and of itself has been interesting to set up because I have my home network segretated with the IoT devices on their own vlan and wifi and pretty locked down. Matter requires IPv6 and due to how my home network is designed I had to do some digging with AI to figure out how to make it all work correctly.

Apple Home definitely has some shortcomings that Alexa does much better with but I am hoping Apple will continue to improve their Home products and introduce features that will bring it closer to the functionality of Alexa.

I tried HomeKit to be able to see my Ring cameras on my Apple TV as they are not supported natively on Apple devices. The best I could get was to be able to view the cameras live but I could not view any recordings. After the last major update version of HomeKit I could not even view the live cameras anymore. I gave up on it after that. If I were going to do it again I would only buy devices that can work on Apple devices natively as HomeKit didn't work well at all for me.

That's what I started doing after seeing legacy devices work hit or miss using the HomeBridge. At least Apple is following a standard now with Matter which is unusual for Apple. Looks like HomeBridge does allow you to see the live views but I haven't seen how to view past recordings. I'd really like to ditch Ring altogether due to their stance on privacy and if I had my choice I'd go with UniFi since that's what I use for my network and I like the idea of my camera recordings being all local and not in the cloud. UniFi doorbells and cameras are quite pricey though.

I'll try to access the Ring doorbells in Apple Home for now but I'll see if it's useful any.

Another reason I'm glad we are swapping or Rokus out for Apple TVs. I was already planning on ditching the Rokus earlier this year and had been waiting on Apple to announce the new one last month. Our Rokus have had issues the last year or so with freezing video and reboots, and one with an HDCP issue randomly.

Thought some might find this encouraging. It turned out good but I still feel a little bad about it.
Had to drop by Walmart on my way to the store this morning, I had enough time but no time to spare either. As I was walking across the parking lot I noticed an older gent pushing his buggy with a confused look on his face. I said hello as I passed but he didn't respond...something was bothering him. I kept walking and then stopped and chided myself for being in too much of a rush. I turned around and asked him if he needed some help. Turned out he had NO idea where he had parked his truck. He told what color and model and looked around...nothing. I asked him if he had tried his key fob, he wasn't sure what I was talking about and got it out and handed it to me. Hit the lock and listened for a horn like my F150 does. Nothing. Finally I hit the panic button and we heard his truck...it was on the complete other side of the parking lot. He thanked me and I went on about my business.

I felt bad however because I almost didn't stop. I was so focused on what I had to pick up that I almost just kept walking without seeing if I could help. Years ago I wouldn't have hesitated. It seems that as we age it is easy to focus more on ourselves and ignore others which is why you'll see footage of these muggings in big cities and people just walk by the wounded victim who is laying on the sidewalk.

Moral to the story: Don't let your humanity die just because so many others have allowed theirs to.

Years ago you wouldn't have hesitated...What was your hesitation? In breaking stride to assess another's situation, which you wouldn't have done when younger? Usually it's younger people who are less observant or likely to break routine to help an old lady cross the street, etc.

Kinda reminds me of a verse from an old John Prine song.

So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare as if you didn't care
Say, "Hello in there, hello"

Actually, I think it's a bit different ... as we age, we do what we need to ... I being retired, don't leave home as early as I would other wise have, some day I have a ton of stops to make, others just a few ...

I think the problem is the generations behind us are all about themselves and generally could care less about others ...

Thats not everyone behind us, but I would guess a majority ...

There comes a time in life that you decide your going to do whats Right, or not ...

In my new apartment, my only choice is Spectrum due to the cost, just $30/mo for 100 Mbps service. And just the other day, I received a notice that I can have Amazon Prime at no cost through Spectrum. I already had Prime, but when I activated the Spectrum deal, I received a $75 refund on my annual subscription. I don't know how widespread the offer is being made, but it sure looks like they're trying to hang on to Internet subscribers.

I don't think they'll go below the current $30 price since it's part of a deal they have with the non- profit that owns the apartment building.

Optimum, which bought up our previous cable company, Suddenlink (originally COX), replac ed all of their coax disdripution with Fiber several years ago. They ran new fiber links to the house, but installed RFOG (RF over glass) devices on the outside of the house, which makes the house coax system look like a cable system. They used DOCSIS modems and of course we had the same assymetric bandwidth of cable internet. When I called them a couple years ago, and said I had installed a connection to the local Fiber provideer, MetroNet, They panicked and offered me the 300 MBit "Fiber powered" cable service for $20 per month. They were bleeding customers. I cancelled my Metronet and went with the $20 deal for a year, even though I didn't like the old cable technology.

Then T-moble Fiber struck a deal with Metronet Fiber where T-mobile would take over the marketing, billing and customer relations for residential Customers. They offered a "Founders Deal" for 2 Gigabit service, symmetric speeds, for $70 per month for new customers. That included all taxes and fees and was guaranteed for 10 years. I couldn't resist. That deal is no longer offered, but I am set for 9 more years.

Now the successaor to the old local telephone company, Brightspeed has also installed a modern Fiber system in the neighborhood, but won't be getting my business. But their Fiber technology is also superior to Optimums cable based system.

With Fiber competition, the cable companies are eventually doomed.
