Do I need this DECA thing?

I just got my DirecTV install today. The installer said that this DECA thing is needed for internet connectivity of the HR24 HD DVR I got. Why does this box have an ethernet port on it, if it needs this DECA thing? From what I've searched for and read online, the DECA created a network inside the coax cable. But I only have one receiver. That, along with the amp(or whatever it is) in the coax from the antenna, plus the DVR, means I needed 3 dang power outlets just to add some satellite TV.

It sounds more like the Internet connection module and a power inserter are possibly being used.

If DECA and therefore MRV isn't needed, then I'd check my online account to see if the $3 fee for MRV is listed.

I definitely have an HR24-500(I looked at the back). I definitely have a white DECA module box.

Today, I removed the white box, and plugged my router cable directly to the HR24, and hit the red reset button. Got on the internet just fine. My HR24 is 2 feet away from my router and modem, and I really didn't want/need extra cables and such in the area with everything I already have there(TV, stereo, DVD, xbox, router, modem, etc.).

The installer told me I needed the DECA box because the HR24 had problems connecting to the internet. The limited research I have done, has led me to the conclusion they only have problems when there are multiple receivers involved. Just saw that my bill is available online, and they charged me a $25 fee for "Internet Connection Kit." And apparently D* has no idea what the "Internet Connection Kit" actually means. I am now on my 2nd person on the phone, and they are still trying to figure it out. But I do not see a $3 fee anywhere on my statement. She put in a request to have the $25 fee reversed, but didn't say anything about the DECA box. She couldn't actually tell me how the charge got there, or what it was for though.

I looked at the other box in the coax, and it is a SWM module.

Yeah if you just have one HD DVR not a issues! I had put in a spare room where my wireless router was due to I did not have a network drop behind my entertainment center. Plus I want the DVR to communicate with my other HD Receiver as well. So it will vary from install to install.

Ahh the joy of CSRs and companies who change policies without informing them.

As you guessed, the "Internet Connection Kit" is the separate white DECA module. Typically they would link all the receivers together via DECA, and then run a line to wherever your router is and use that separate module near your home network to allow the receivers to connect to your network and out to the Internet.

With a single receiver, this is obviously unnecessary if you can attach into your network nearby via Ethernet.

So the $25 charge was basically for a part that you didn't really need, but was probably spelled out as a requirement as part of the install tech's DECA training.

Song Name Game Part 3!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

It turns out I was justified in my suspicion.

Gavin Newsom somehow authorized the temporary move of the distribution date of the Winter blend to September 28th.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.
