Anybody else find SWM unreliable?

A bit of background: I have two separate SWM systems, mainly because it was just more convenient to do so. One Slimline SL3 feeds two HR DVRs in the living room, while another feeds three machines in other rooms.

Both systems work fine most of the time, but I find them to be quite a bit less reliable than the old "standard" LNBs going through WB68 multiswitches. By that I mean, when I least expect it, I will find one or more DVRs "searching for signal" and I end up having to power-down the entire system and reboot everything. Since it happens on two completely separate systems, my gut instinct is to say that this while concept is just very fragile -- it doesn't seem to take much to upset it.

I rarely rebooted my machines before, but now I am forced to do it at least once every two or three weeks. It has become annoying enough that I am thinking of going to back to the 4-wire + WB68 system, even though it is a lot more cables. In my experience, it has a lot fewer problems (like, none).

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same experience?

I guess I should start a new thread with this, but what the heck ...

So I just finished reverting back to the Slimline-5 configuration with 4-wires and a WB68 multiswitch. Now stupid me -- I decided to power-down two of the DVRs during the process -- unfortunately, now when I power them up, I cannot get past the "Receiving Satellite Info" screen, as apparently it is looking for the SWM LNB which is no longer there! Tried several RBRs on both, but still stuck.

I know the dish/LNB/multiswitch are fine, because the third machine was never powered down -- I just went in and re-did the satellite setup and it works fine. So ... how in the heck do I get to the satellite setup menu if I can't even get through the boot process???

Dumb question here, but you have two cables hooked up to these dvr's, correct?

Ok, try hard reseting these boxes a few times. This should get them to revert to non-swm.

You need to hit the Exit button and hope, I had that happen before as well, I think the exit button would get you out of the Searching menu and you would then have a SS and a Reset option to work with.
Might have been the Exit , then Menu, can't remember for sure.

Thanks Jimbo! Indeed it's the Menu button that gets out of it -- but the trick is that you have to wait until the "Receiving Satellite Info" screen goes away and then gets replaced by the black screen and the "Searching for Signal" message. Press Menu at that point and you get an abbreviated menu where you can Repeat Satellite Setup. Just did that and it's working. Now gotta do the other machine ...

Thanks again! I don't know that I would have stumbled across that.

Yep. All is well now. Jimbo unlocked the secret to repeating the satellite setup.

Thanks again! I don't know that I would have stumbled across that.

You are correct and I forgot to mention that you needed to wait for it to time out first, sorry.

Also, if you don't KNOW you need to wait it out, you'll sit there and scratch your head, it sux if you miss the correct button and have to start waiting all over again, this happened to me when trying to figure it out the first time ....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
