(The following tirade is not debating whether I got a good deal but how to make sure you get the deal you are promised)

When I moved, I called Directv and asked them for their best deal to retain me as a customer. They offered me a free HD-DVR, free HD for two years, free Starz and Showtime for 6 months, $10 off my package for a year and they let me keep my old select choice package.

Well, my first bill came, and lo and behold, they were charging me for the HD DVR, the HD access and they charged me for an extra remote that they sent me (for free, they originally said) because my first remote was not working well.

Long story short- I've had to make five phone calls and three emails to finally get everything that was promised to me. I strongly urge anyone who is signing up for new service or moving, to do these things: 1) Write down the customer service person's name, 2) The date and time of the call, 3) The exact deal that they are being given, and 4) Tell the customer service person to put all of the details in their phone notes. Heck, if there is a way for you to legally record the conversation- I'd suggest that too!

Save yourself some grief- document, document, document. It sounds like a no brainer, but lots of people forget to do it.

Hmm, well I was head of marketing for a fortune 50 company just prior to my retirement, so I guess so much for that theory. I think I understand the big picture just fine, thanks.

I really have no idea why we're misunderstanding each other so much. We're not asking you to DO anything, we're explaining why directv's policies and procedures arent customer friendly and why customers seem to keep getting offered things that they dont receive and have to fight for. And what the customer should do to protect themselves.

At every company I ran, was a senior manager of, or just worker bee'd, I clearly communicated with my customer, eliminated doubt and confusion, delivered everything I said I would, and when there was a miscommunication or error I resolved it in the customers favor. Sure, there were a few 'bad' customers who werent interested in a business relationship with me. I suspect there are more of these types of customers in todays world because vendors have trained us to watch out for ourselves by spending most of their money courting new customers and giving the finger to the people who already spent their money.

As a result of my fair business operations, I may have left some money on the table, I may have had to work harder for every dollar, and I definitely went home tired most days. But I had no trouble picking up and retaining high quality people to work for me because they knew they werent going to have to 'do the wrong thing' because the company policies said so, they wouldnt have to get behind anything they didnt believe in. And gee, I had customers follow me around for three decades because they trusted me. So I didnt have to spend $100 per subscriber per year to lure in new people because I could make a great living on the existing relationships that I'd taken the time to nurture. It worked out so well that I made a lot of money and was able to retire early.

Just so we're clear, and hopefully so we can stop saying we're done talking about this and then talk about it some more:

- Nobody is blaming you for anything
- Nobody is suggesting you have any role in creating any policy at directv
- I think everyone is pretty happy about how much you try to help people
- I do however think you kinda stink at public relations ;)
- Nobody is suggesting that you can change any policies at directv
- Nobody is claiming that you are doing anything wrong, just following orders
- The thrust of this discussion is to document your offer from directv
- You should document because directv sometimes makes an offer and then doesnt live up to it
- When a company does that, I feel its wrong not to live up to your word and give the customer what you promised
- I also feel that if you're going to go back on your word, and your representatives word IS your word, look up the definition of the word 'representative', you should let the customer out of any agreements
- In 38 states, you can record your own conversations without any consent, and its a good idea to do so
- In the other 12, you're supposed to get 2 party consent but if the recording is only shared between those two parties, there isnt much of a case to file should the non-consenting party be upset about this
- I dont think its a good idea to rely on whatever directv did and didnt record, and rely on their ability and willingness to provide a full recording
- I think that if directv's policies were simpler and more customer friendly, they might lose out on some up front money, but they'd have a lot fewer problems with customers, better customer service ratings, and perhaps a higher BBB rating.
- If the policies arent simplified, hiring better people, training them better and giving them a more restrictive system to use might help.

Simple enough? I know you dont agree with some of what I said, but if we all agreed on everything, there'd be nothing to talk about. Directv has their minds made up on some policies and the proof of the pudding is that its made for a lot of unhappy customers. When you cant successfully sell a home entertainment product/service through costco/bestbuy, you have a problem!

I think you still dont get it.

DTV offical policy is go ahead and record you want to record go ahead.

Stonecold is saying though if you record to keep and it goes beyond the company and you want to sue or take it a onyour side tv news program DTV legal will be on you like white on rice to say you took it illegally. Most of the call centers are in those 12 states. So I am saying just CYA your self. You might not like saying hey look I am recording you but it covering you from dtv legal getting it from being used on tv or in cord or any kind of mediation.

I have always been about protecting you from the company's policies. You come off as I am in favor again I am here to help not to fight with this and when you dont get that saying I am protecting the company and I am being blindly defneidn them upsets me you want to see blind defense go sit over at dbstalk them come back over and talk to me.

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

Ok, I'm bored .... actually - to be more precise - I'm bored of eating the same rotation of 9 or 10 meals that are currently my "go-to" meals. My wife works the long hours - I work from home as and when i feel like it ... which means i generally do most of the cooking ... and so by default - i also make out the shopping list ...

We cook at home 5 or even 6 nights a week - but we always seem to fall back on the same old tried and tested "quick and easy but tastes ok" meals. Week in week out.

Pot Roast - mash and Peas.
Spaghetti
Chicken Pasta in cheese sauce.
Curry & rice
(these are some of mine)

Now it's not that I'm not adventurous in the kitchen ... I'll try anything once or twice ... but we all do it. Unless your name is Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray .. we all eventually fall back on our 8-10 favorite "meals"

So i thought - if we shared some of our own go-to meals with each other ... we might be able to add a few "new" ones to our own arsenal of meals.

So again - I ask you ...

What's for dinner tonight ?

Please give me something new to add to my rotation ... its our weekly shop tomorrow - so i want to pull together a few idea's and try and eat a meal each day next week that I've never had before .. or at least something that is not on my current "go-to" meal plan.

What meal do you always seem to fall back on in your house ? Maybe its something that I've never tried or not had in a while. I need inspiration !! I've got a blank shopping list in front of me - and nothing sounds good .. HELP !

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

For comparison, YouTube TV now has about double the subscribers of Dish and Sling combined.

Lots of satellite spectrum, many national data that will be working for a long long time, lots of technology and patients that Dish owns etc.

If you watch closely Dish is working to accumulate new satellite technologies which would be perfect in Elons pocket and they are able to buy them without much scrutiny like they would probably have if Elon purchased them.

Lots of money is already being thrown at Dish by Elon. What money is he throwing at DIRECTV?

My Joey 4 is installed on a bedroom tv.

The diamond buttons had been reset.

I thought this was unusual.

I had to reprogram the double diamond button for PIP which I watch.

No problem.

PIP feature on the Joey 4 had been used to watch two channels at once which I thought was the limitation being only two channels vs.Hopper 3's multi-view four channels.

This time when I selected the PIP feature I noticed an option for Multi-View?

Could this be?

Yes it could.

This software update does this.

Multi-view PIP (4 channels) Is Now Available on Joey 4.

This is freaking awesome and very surprising!!!

Very wonderful for me.

Tried the Adjust Screen settings and the green bar was still present. Did have a random day when the green bar was gone, but it came back. Did look at the TV setting and found I could stretch the screen a little where the green bar was gone, but it does cut off things across the edges of the picture slightly. Likely will start shopping for a new TV as mine is close to 20 years old and the Dis Remote doesn't seem to like the TV.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I suggest you get an LG Oled 4k TV. You will love the picture on this thing from all angles in the room. The picture is the best I've seen ever. I have the B 3 series 55 inch TV and it was on sale in the fall of 2024 for like $749.00 - because they sell off their older models when they reach end of year.

I even bought one for my parents. They had a huge living room and sit at the weirdest angles with their furniture and the viewing angle was a problem using just about any TV we tried, but not with the LG Oled Tv. They love the picture. Walmart sells them and so does Amazon.

Except they haven't priced out the market, the viewers are there and broadcasters are willing to pay. If Fox doesn't pay then the games will be elsewhere.
With the expansion of NFL games to Every day of the week ...

Shouldn't the Sunday Ticket be reduced in price by at least 25% ...
This doesn't make any sense.

It's a false premise, 25% of the games haven't left Sunday, and makes no effort to tie number of games to the price - for a sport that continues to grow / maintain it's popularity... which has helped justify increases to the package cost.

I'm all ears, I'd love to hear him justify suddenly cutting the price 25%, lol. Make it make sense. Just because a game moved from Monday to a Wednesday this year isn't it.

The game is not growing in the US. It is exceedingly popular, but it has hit the ceiling. Hence games on other continents where room for growth is much greater. So the NFL transmissions rates in the US increase like household fiber optic Internet costs increase... because they can.

And we are the ones who take the impact of it.

Ok now demonstrate that with data. If it's hit the ceiling and not declining, then where is the justification for an arbitrary 25% decrease to NFLST based on the sentiment of game inventory changes, rather than actual data? Also, maintaining popularity and demand and expanding viewership overseas aren't mutually exclusive efforts.

Isn't this when the market fights back?

Coming back to this - there is 1 fewer game in the Sunday afternoon window compared to last year. 197 down from 198. If that's a bridge too far for some then then they should absolutely speak with their wallet. Speaking personally, we're probably passing on NFLST this year, depending on the deals available - life's just busier for us and we get what we want from Red Zone 95% of the time. While I don't support the arguments as presented, I'll admit the irony that my withdrawal will feed them.

I'm not supporting an argument saying costs should go down any arbitrary amount. I'm saying the up'ing of the cost is getting a bit much and we, the actual consumer, are the ones who pay for it down the line.

This is the problem with "competition". It doesn't help the consumer in this case, it helps the *insert league*.

Ok, but I'm not disagreeing with that. All I am saying is I'm not surprised they're getting more and more for their programming, and it makes sense to maximize the value while at it's most popular - with no signs of it waning.

In response we've gotten:
- The government should largely ruin the sport by repealing the antitrust exemption because billionaires are bad - ignoring the harm it would do to both players and fans
- Drop NFLST 25% because there's 1 less game on Sundays

:what

Speaking of maximizing revenue, Fox picked up the rights to broadcast games in Mexico.

Well certainly, any product producer is going to want more money and the NFL is the franchise for programming.

And I'm quite happy they have NFL+ which allows me to watch every game commercial free and in less than an hour. I have to wait for the game to end, but that is an easy cost to absorb.

What I find odd is that I felt the whole pay a large amount for exclusive rights was a source of our higher cost. But now the NFL is diversifying the product, providing access to more services... making it more pricey for us. Networks and services are paying high premiums for splintered NFL content.
