I just recently joined Dish Network and received the HD 811 receiver. I have an HD TV and HD Toshiba DVD/VCR Combination recorder/player. The 811 is connected to the TV with composite video cables and the DVD is connected to the TV with composite video cables. Componet 1 on the TV is the satellite box. Componet 2 is for the DVD recorder. I've tried every combination listed in the Dish book and the TV book, but I still do not get video through the DVD. I only get sound. I can only play a DVD, not record one. I had no problem recording when I have an HD cable box. Please tell me how to connect this and what to set (if anything) on the dish remote to get this to work. I'm desperate! Thank you!

I have them all connected just like I did with the HD Cable Box and I'm still not getting a video signal to my DVD. We called the Dish Network for help and they didn't have the slightest idea what we were talking about. They said we should call the guy who installed the 811. We didn't call him because he told us that he was paid to connect the 811 to our TVs not to other devices. He also said that he didn't know how to connect the DVD to the 811 box. I also tried what the Dish book said: connect the red, yellow, and white to the 811 box and to the DVD. I tried connecting to all the inputs and outputs on the back of the 811 box to my DVD, but none of those worked either. If it's not a defective 811 box, then I'm at a loss as to what to do. I paid close to $400 for the DVD recorder at Best Buy so that I could record DVDs. We switched to Satellite from cable because all the reviews said that Satellite comes in much clearer than cable.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Thank you!

Like I said, connect everything to your TV and check if there is the signal out of 811, if not, call the Dish back and ask for "advance tech" and request for replacement unit. It is possible that 811 SD output is defect.

The last option before you call, you should do a system reboot. There is times that 811 will experience "black screen of death". For me, it happenes to both HD and SD output. But it worth a try. To do so:

hold the power button on the receiver for 6 sec., as sson as you see the "Attention 015" screen, press the power button to tune the receiver off. unplug from the power for 15 sec. then plug back in, tune on the power and let it finish the all the process. Then check your video output on your 811.

Good luck.

I just talked with the Dish tech and we checked the 811. He said that the DVD isn't recognizing the Line In from the 811 Video 1- whatever that means. I have no idea, nor did he, how to correct the problem. But he had me reconnect the wiring to see if the 811 is emitting power from the Video 1 inputs and he said it is, but we never did get the video to the DVD recorder.

Now, I need to figure out how to get the DVD recorder to recognize or accept the Line 1 from the 811 Satellite box.

I still need help!

I may not of read everything correctly but I have a panasonic dvd recorder hooked to my 811 and what I had to do to see it was put the dvd recorder on the L3 imput. Once in doing that everything came in. The only draw back to these type of setups are that you will need to program both the 811 and the dvd recorder to record a program. I hope this helps you out. Also I ran mine with a s video hook up

Good Luck

The 811 is connected to the TV with composite video cables and the DVD is connected to the TV with composite video cables. Componet 1 on the TV is the satellite box. Componet 2 is for the DVD recorder. I've tried every combination listed in the Dish book and the TV book, but I still do not get video through the DVD. I only get sound. I can only play a DVD, not record one.

I assume you mean COMPONENT video cables connect the 811 and DVD to the TV, not composite, which is a single YELLOW cable rather than 3 cables (Red, Green , Blue). You describe how the 811 and DVD outputs are connected to the TV, which results in your ability to watch DBS channels and DVDs. You don't say how the 811 output is connected to your DVD recorder input. This should be via a direct S-Video cable from the 811's S-Video OUT to the DVD recorder's S-Video INPUT.

I tried this and it didn't work. I have to have the composite to the TV from the Toshiba Model # D-VR3SU for progressive scan. Anyway, when I disconnected the composite from the 811 and connected the S-video to the 811 and the DVD recorder, I got sound on the TV but no picture, and nothing on the DVD recorder.

Again, I think you mean that you have to have COMPONENT to the TV video INPUT from the DVD video OUTPUT to support progressive scan. That is the correct setup. However, to use your DVD recorder, you need a signal source routed to the DVD recorder's video and audio INPUTs, typically either S-Video or composite (single yellow cable) video for the video source and one Red and one White analog audio cable for the sound source. These 3 cables must come from one of the OUTPUTs on the 811, not from anything on your TV or A/V receiver if you have one. Otherwise, the only source for recording is from a built-in analog TV tuner in your DVD recorder, if your Toshiba has such a tuner (many DVD-Rs do).

With the S-Video cable from the 811 OUTPUT directly to the DVD-R's S-Video INPUT and the 2 (1 Red, 1 White) analog audio cables from the 811's OUTPUT 1 or 2 analog audio, directly to the DVD-R's analog audio INPUT, you can view the DVD-R's recording source (i.e., the DBS channels on the 811) on you TV by selecting the TV's Component 2 input source (i.e., your DVD) and selecting the external source on your DVD-R's channel selector. On my DVD-R w/ a built-in analog tuner and front and back external source input connections, I have an L-1 for the rear S-Video source, an F-1 for the front S-video source, a dubbing position, and then all of the scanned-in analog TV channels.

With this setup, if your TV is set to COMPONENT 2 for DVD viewing, you should see on the TV whatever is on the DVD-R's channel/source selector. If you don't, you may have a bad S-Video cable. BTW, this setup won't work if you have a video OUTPUT from your DVD-R going to the 811's video input and you try to view the DVD-R through the 811 on channels VID-1 or VID-2. This sets up an infinite loop and all you see is garbage on your TV if the TV has COMPONENT 1 for 811 selected.

Yes. That is all connected properly. The setup worked great with the cable box. My question is how do I connect the DVD to the 811 Satellite box to get video on my DVD recorder.

Again, run an S-Video cable from the 811's S-Video OUTPUT port to the DVD-R's S-Video INPUT port and what the DVD on your TV via your COMPONENT 2 for DVD input.

I tried connecting to all the inputs and outputs on the back of the 811 box to my DVD, but none of those worked either.

You should only be connecting the OUTPUTs on the back of the 811 to the inputs on your DVD-R if you want to record something from the 811. If you do that, you can't cable the signal back to the 811 for viewing on your TV from the 811's input to the TV. That creates an infinite loop and the signal is lost. You can however watch DVD's from the 811's input to your TV if you connect the OUTPUT of your DVD-R to one of the 811's composite video inputs. That may be OK for watching VHS tape on the VCR, but it will be less satisfactory for viewing a DVD versus watching the DVD on your TV with direct COMPONENT cabling from the DVD-R to the TV.

The 811 Video 1 Line In is a single Yellow video cable from the Yellow, Video 1 OUTPUT port on the 811 to a Yellow video INPUT port on your DVD recorder. Not seeing the 811's output on your TV? Have you select the external video source input in your DVD-R's setup? Are you attempting to view the 811's output on your TV with TV selected input from the DVD (Component 2 you called it)? If you have followed all that I've said above and you still don't see anything on the TV, you either have a defective video cable (I'd be using S-Video not composite video in the first place), a defect in your DVD-R, or an error in how you are setting up your DVD-R to select a recording source (go back and check the manual). Just for added assurance, I'd ensure that there aren't any cables attached to the OUTPUTs on your DVD-R that run to the 811 INPUTs. None. Na Da.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Monday 11/2 is a full slate for NBA League Pass as all 30 teams are playing and 14 out of 15 total games are on NBALP. Only one national TV game on Peacock/NBCSN (Thunder @ Cavs).

DirecTV is even having to use several MLB EI channels (from 745-748) and a NHL CI (770) channel to fit all of them in the guide close together. 5 games at 7:30 ET, 3 games at 8 ET, 2 games at 8:30 ET, 1 game at 9 ET, 3 games at 10 ET. Luckily NHL CI is light on Monday (3 games on CI).

DirecTV is providing both broadcast feeds for all League Pass games except Hornets, Magic, Bucks & Raptors that night. These are all teams that have local broadcasts via a OTA channel which is on spotbeams and have streaming deals (DTC) that are not exclusive DAZN teams which DirecTV just signed a deal with (à la Spurs, Grizzlies, Cavs, Pacers & T'Wolves). Its also very common that we don't get Raptors broadcast very often from TSN or Sportsnet Ontario on League Pass.

Only the Knicks, Nets, Wizards, Bulls, Celtics, Rockets, Lakers, Warriors, Avalanche, Sharks and Bruins feeds will be using remaps of 24/7 RSNs that night. The rest will be relying on the part time feeds, including the Nuggets, Blackhawks and Kings who will be on their alt/overflow channels, and MSG Western NY will be live on channel 635-1 to carry Buffalo area ads during the Knicks game.

The NHL Network alternate will be live on channel 215-1 with Red Wings @ Panthers for those blacked out of Golden Knights @ Bruins on the main feed.

The Thunder @ Cavaliers game will be on one of Peacock Game Pass channels that night for commercial customers, they'll also have the back to back U-Conn Women's and Men's Basketball. One of the part time feeds will also be in use for WWE Raw via Joe Hand promotions.

I could be wrong but the only RSN we dont have is NBC SN Philadelphia .

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

Yeah... that was me...

I did another security update and it required me to reboot the server.

I also did a patch for something else and accidently put two ;'s in the config file so when the server rebooted it wouldn't restart a service because of the extra ; in the config file.

And of course as I did it my step dad called me slowing me down in figuring it out.

That was a Scott mistake. Sorry about that.

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

I'm on H713 on the Hopper and P15403 on the Hopper Plus. It shows internet connection issues and doesn't finish loading the various services. I see the "loading circle going around. Did it ever work correctly before? Hard to say what the problem is. Usually for streaming, it will show the Dish logo with lines sweeping down to show downloading, never seen the circle issue. Did you try a manual reboot, red button reset, power cord unplug/replug to see if it makes a difference.
