1. I've been hoping the NFL would do something about the timeout one nano-second before a big field goal, but Sean Payton may have taken care of that for us. Did you see his assistants all looking at Payton when the camera found him right after the field goal the Saints blocked was nullified by Payton's timeout? Priceless.
If Hartley made that chip-shot in OT, this never would have happened.
3. The Big Ten should be ashamed of themselves. The schedule this week was an absolute joke. Thank goodness they're going to a nine game schedule next year. I don't want to hear any of the gaudy statistics some players piled up by feasting on teams with zero speed on defense. Those numbers mean nothing.
You know who really should be embarassed? Purdue and Minnesota. They choked on their cupcakes.
4. I tried to watch pre-season hockey, Rangers-Devils. I just can't do it for more than a minute or so.
When did Henrik get pulled?
5. Alabama looked very vulnerable. If Troy Mallette didn't panic during crunch time, Arkansas would have won. Everything analyst Gary Danielson said Mallette was doing right, he did wrong in the fourth quarter. I'll be very surprised if 'bama goes undefeated.
Their QB is what worries me. I don't trust him- Bama wins in spite of McElroy.
7. The Raiders must have the fattest kickers on the planet. Between the two of them they probably have like 87% body fat.
Insert Rob Ryan reference...
8. Joe Girardi needs to take his foot off the gas pedal. The Yankees are going to make the playoffs, so now Girardi needs to set his rotation and rest some guys. If he goes all out to win the division he could cost the Yankees in the playoffs. I've reconciled that we're starting in Minnesota next Wednesday, and Girardi should start planning for that immediately.
Texas is the team I'd be careful of- better bats, and the Twins are notorious playoff gaggers under Gardenhire.
9. Very stressful in the Sandra household from 11 PM - midnight last night. Yankees/Red Sox and Jets/Dolphins both coming down to the wire. Sweet holy moly that was intense. When is the last time Mariano and Papelbon both blew a save in the same inning?
At least the good guys (for you) won.
11. Would really like to see Carmelo Anthony come to the Nets.
Why would he want to join a team that lost 70 games last year?
12. Tim Tebow demoted to third string in Denver. Think they're regretting that draft pick yet? Looks like not much wildcatting with Tebow this year. He won't be getting into games now.
Denver chose him because he's so likeable to make the fans happy.
14. My last triathlon of the year was this Saturday in Delaware...oh my goodness it was hot. Very unusual to be 95 degrees and extremely humid at the end of September, but it was. The run portion was a 10k (6.2 miles), out and back on the blacktop along the street that parallels the ocean, totally in the sun. The sun and heat were absolutely searing. You got to see everyone's face as they went the other way, and there was a lot of pain out there on the run course. At times like that you just have to realize you cannot keep up your normal race pace and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Many could not.
The only part of a triathlon I MIGHT do is the swimming.
16. The Chiefs are in the early stages of building a perennial Super Bowl contender. They have the best personnel guy in the league and great coaching...watch out.
The combination of their young talent and a soft schedule could have them going great distances.
20. Wow, the football Giants are coming apart as we speak. Five personal fouls, lots of guys unhappy on the bench, Eli handling the ball like it's a grenade sometimes...we'll be talking Bill Cowher around here any day now.
They have games against the Bears, Texans, Lions (not a pushover), Cowboys, and the improving Seahawks. That schedule does them no favors- not a good thing when your team is showing a lack of focus.
