They have filed to move E8 to 86.5W and operate on 32 transponders. It will no longer be needed at 77W after the new Quetzsat satellite is in service (late 2011).

Echostar 4 has a pending application to move to 86.5 with service beginning in the first quarter 2011.

I believe there is a phase in requirement where Dish will have to carry all the channels in a DMA if they carry any. I believe the first phase is 30% but I don't remember the deadline date for that. Regardless, Dish is going to need a lot more bandwidth in the future for locals.

Regarding the 86.5 W slot, Dish's FCC application was for reverse circular polarization to avoid interference with the Canadian DBS slots at 82 W and 91 W. Obviously Dish's on-orbit satellites such as E-4 or E-8 don't have this capability therefore their use can only be in the U.S. away from the Canadian border. I don't think Dish at this time has the authority to use the 86.5 W slot in Mexico. Dish could build a new satellite with this reverse polarization for CONUS use at 86.5 W but it would require a new LNB for subscriber's dishes. Another option would be to eventually build a spotbeam satellite or satellites for this slot and since it appears that most if not all Eastern Arc national programming will eventually come from 72.7 W, a standard 100.x dish could be used. These spotbeams could only service DMAs that aren't too close to the Canadian border. It should be noted that the 77 W slot may also have this coverage limitation for the Canadian border for both CONUS and spotbeam because of possible interference with the 82 W slot.

I believe the proposed move of E-4 to 86.5 W is only to try to hold the slot and not use it for any subscriber porgramming but I could see E-8 being used there. I am not surprised that Dish is raising the possibility of E-3 being moved to 148 W. I don't think Dish can really count on E-3 to reliably help out E-12 and E-15 at 61.5 W and besides E-6 is there as a backup but it is also a backup for 72.7 W. Once QuetzSat-1 is launched to 77 W, in the second half of 2011, Dish will have E-1, E-3, E-4 and E-8 to fill in spots unless one or more of them die before then. When E-16 gets launched in 2012 to 61.5 W on a Zenit by Sea Launch, E-12 will probably be freed-up unless Dish plans to use both E-16 and E-12 in spotbeam mode from 61.5 W. The uplink limitations of E-12 make its continual use in spotbeam mode less appealing after E-16 is operational. It can be used in CONUS mode but only on 13 TP frequencies.

FCC smells a rat in Echostar's 86.5W filings.

FCC Letter Request for 86.5W construction details

Several applicants have been using a stream of paper to keep slots tied up while not constructing and launching the permitted satellites.

Echostar is presently under sanction for failure to fullfill their committments on several other slots and can not apply for any new slots untill their backlog of unlaunched satellites is reduced below 3.

Thank you. Very interesting letter, and written in plain English, too!

Well, it doesn't look like E8 will be making the trip to 86.5 no matter what now.

Don't forget about E7 sitting at 119.
r10fret
What about E6 is it still usable? Didn't do much of anything when it moved to 61.5 as a backup for E3. Moving E7 should not be an option for WA fail safe redundancy reasons.

I like the Jimmy Fallon channel. This will be its third year. I like that it's all fresh each year. Also fun when he pops on live from time to time.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

They will have to look at the switching sections to determine WHY 2 trains were on the same track ... at the same time.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

You knew the answer before you asked it.

I can't recall having encountered a local ad on Sirius, and I don't imagine it is any different on XM.

For those dazn nba channels are they sat only or sat & streaming
K
Both, and they just made it official with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.
