Does anyone else ever watch all the foreign shows on Galaxy 19 and imagine you are listening in from another planet and trying to figure out what is going on? ;)

Just think in millions of years when our signals reach some far off planet they are gonna have to figure us out by watching our tv shows. Good luck to them because I have a hard time figuring out what is going on on our own planet watching this stuff.

It's highly unlikely any life form that is a million light years away would enjoy what's on Galaxy 19 :(
Radio waves would probably travel a maximum of up to 80 years before the signal is too weak and scattered. (depending on the strength of the original transmission).

Sorry to poke a hole in the thought. :p

I have it from a very reliable extraterestrial source that they are watching RTV Network on 83.0°W. Their favorite show is Danial Boone. Well, that is what the blue one told me. The brassy or gold colored one said it liked Adam 12 because of the sirens. They told me this while they were implanting this strange tracking device in the back of my neck. They were really a couple of cool dudes! They also told me that they loved the show with the talking horse. They didn't like the name Ed, though, they said that was a bad word in their language.

They did also tell me that the global climate was going to change, and it was not anything that we did or that we can prevent. They said it was a natural cycle and it just happens and that we need to prepare for this for the next generation(s). They said to learn how to build igloos, if that means anything.

Radar, I wonder if one of your television watching extraterrestrials could answer a question. Some intergalactic acquaintances were just asking how things done by man escape being referred to as natural. Mankind, in the flesh at least, for all his hubris still has a dust to dust existence thereby falling short of divinity. Surely other species such as spiders producing silk with tensile strength comparable to high-grade steel but with only a fifth of the density or salamanders with their DIY hip replacement technology can be considered equal contenders for the supernatural award. We have a financial system...or maybe that is the other way around - poor example. So why don't man's products and by-products qualify as natural?

Anyway I must finish my book; Igloos for Dummies.

JWW Brennan,

Oh yes, they were very specific on some of these points. All of the feats that mankind (as we refer to ourselves) does must be natural, as we are natural. However, we do not have a "dust-to-dust" legacy. This is a misinformed notion based upon what what we think or percieve that we know and understand. There is much more to "us" than we see at face value. We were actually planted here (or transplanted here if you will) for them to learn from our existence in this physical form. What we learn here, in this form, is what teaches them what they do not understand. We are like the egg that becomes a tadpole and evolves to grow legs and lose gills to breath air, then leaves the sea to crawl upon the land and then... dies in order to change form once again into something greater... Same as the butterfly, from egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly and then to something else that we do not see.

Nothing that we are or that we produce or create was never created before. It has always existed, we have always existed, everything has always existed, just possibly in slightly different form. Simply because we manage to build a skyscraper does not mean that we are any more or less unique than the termite that builds a mound on the plains of Africa. With one exception... We do NOT fully return to dust.

To address your question in conclusion here, there is nothing "earthly" that is NOT natural and that will ever be unnatural, except that which is NOT of the "THIS" physical world already... and that "SOMETHING" does exist.

Well, the people on Galaxy 19 seem to like nice cars and pretty girls. They like to sing and dance if they aren't talking about something I can't understand. I think they are more like us than we realize. When they are speaking another language it makes it easier for us to see how crazy we all are.

Obviously, you can blame most all of the differences on a dude named Nimrod and his tower project! :) Otherwise, we are all made from the same stardust and thus the hot girls and hot cars appeal to us all the same. We just pronounce their names differently! LOL!

That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)

Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

The Westwood One Mux on 105W would likely be receivable, has some good music channels on there. It does scan in, but it's more convenient to manually enter the PIDs, check out Lyngsat for the channels: EchoStar 105/SES 11 at 105.0°W - LyngSat

I use a 10 footer (only C-band dish I have), but it's very strong.

No, I was actually referring to outside of the Top 8, but should have been Top 12 ...

I guess I should have looked at the bracket from last year first ...

I'm more thinking about them trying to expect a 15 to beat a 5 seed or there abouts .

And no teams deserve a bye! Injuries are the largest part of the game that you cant practice for them. Any team can suffer the worst injury at any position on any play. No favorites.

While the bye can help the top four teams and those the Cartels would like to protect in the playoff, I think the bye is also about making the Cartel championships mean something. One problem with a playoff is it does diminish the conference title a bit.

I mean you get upsets all the time.

Just a couple of weeks ago. Unranked Florida knocked off number 7 texas. Unranked Auburn beat number 1 Georgia.

This week unranked Cincinnati beat number 8 texas Tech. Unranked UCF beat number 2 BYU.

No reason to think similar upsets wont happen in the playoffs where a low seed can upset a higher one.

Yep, wonder why we rank the top 25 in 2 poles still? Do the ranking change much if they are unranked or have many loses? They sure do, any given day never take your opponent as a cake walk.....

Correct, you Do get upsets from time to time ....however .
You Don't get teams UPSETTING teams for 5 weeks in a row.

They are trying to make this Basketball and its a far cry from the way that is played.

How long till they go to 32 teams ? Then they will say, well, the NFL is 32 teams, we can make more money that way .... except the NFL is 32 teams, that are a set number of teams and divisions, you don't have that in College ... oh but they will try.

They would have to choose what teams they would want in and thats it.
Hopefully that NEVER happens.

I can see the NCAA going away and the CFP taking that portion over and a Collective Bargaining agreement coming in the not to distant future.

The problem with rankings and playoffs is that they are designed to hype the game and make money. Period.

The only reason that BYU and Texas Tech were upsets is that they were hyped up in the standings in the first place. I love watching BYU and Bear Bachmeier. They are a fun and talented team, but not nearly so strong, fast, big, and skilled as a true top ten team. Does anyone truly believe they could compete with the likes of Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana, Alabama, etc.? Yet, they were ranked above those teams.

Each year, there are 10 to 12 teams who truly could compete for the championship if it depended on winning more than one game in a playoff. Including teams like James Madison, Tulane, BYU, etc. in a playoff has nothing to do with determining a national champion. It's just about money.

I don't know why DISH doesn't just start a streaming version of DISH and then if you can't see the western arc you go with streaming versions and then they could keep customers if they had good internet speeds. I mean Sling TV could be changed to Streaming DISH TV if they wanted since both companies are under Echostar. Then you would still be able to use your ota antenna with Air TV devices like I do with Air TV Anywhere with 4 ota tuners.

Because he didn't have a fleet of reusable rockets. Starlink works because SpaceX is able to launch hundreds (thousands?) of their Starlink satellites for what a single geostationary Internet satellite costs to build and launch on a disposable launcher.
