Is the main feature or only feature of ( sling technology) the TV EVERYWHERE feature? What other benefit does this receiver offer as far as sling technology?

I understand this receiver is supposed to have the best graphical menus and search features but if I am not that interested in the TV EVERYWHERE, is there a big benefit for the extra upfront cost and extra montly fee?

Mike I think you are taking things too personally. I for one have no intention of "personal attacks", so hopefully you didn't take my post that way. Try to see it from the other perspective as well. Many of us are pleased with the 922 as it is today (I think we all had some issues when it first came out). I don't know what to tell you about the 4 recordings at one time thing, but as I stated, it works for me multiple times per week with no issues. I think we are just tired of hearing the same comments over and over from you, especially since some of the information is now outdated.

I had (and still have) a 922 from the beginning. As far as bugs are concerned, it's much better than it used to be, but I'm still seeing the a problem when you try to record 4 things at once from time to time. I always record two of everything because of this bug. Usually one out of the two recordings will be ok.

There are some 722 features that are simply missing from 922 and I wish the menu system had a numeric equivalent so that you can program a numeric sequence to change things like toggling closed captions on/off.

Considering that we'll never see the web browser and DNLA is available in everything else like blu-ray players, I don't see the the benefit pf paying $200 plus $4 per month extra for the 'flagship' receiver.

Okay Lakebum, I don't think you really read my posts in this thread. Other than the 4 recordings at a time thing being outdated ,I didn't post anything else that wasn't true or ripped on the 922. I answered the thread starter as to which was better in my opinion ,the 922 or the 722k+sling adapter. MY comments were for the thread starter not for you are anyone else who is happy with the 922. I listed the pluses of the 922 and the negatives as well as agreed with others who saw the same defects and pluses in the 922.

I think many ,including you Lakebum, are assuming that all my posts about the 922 are going to be angry. so you don't actually READ them. And you know what happens when you assume ? I have moved past my angry feeling about the 922 ,but that doesn't mean that I am going to just see rainbows and shoot unicorns out of my butt about it. IF the 922 has improved in the last two months since I had it , then great news. But in discussing this receiver there are going to be negatives and positives discussed just like all DISH receivers.

So rather than be dismissive of anything I post because of my past anger over this receiver ,why not actually read the posts and take them as part of the conversation, not as attacks on the 922. IF my posts help alert DISH to the way the 922 was handled , marketed and how many of us feel that the 922 is not all it was advertised to be , then even better. It might deter DISH from pulling another stunt like this 922 release again in the future.

I have been a strong supporter of DISH as well as a sub for 14 years tomorrow. I said before I have owned just about every cutting edge receiver that they came out with . My dispute with them is the way they release new receivers and make us all beta testers ,why they decide what they will fix and what promised features they will cut. This whole 922 fiasco of a release must of hit home with DISH because at CES they not only didn't release a new receiver coming like the "923" that Charlie quipped about on the C.Chat, but they actually are working on releasing the sling extender 300 that was promised last year for the 922 and any vip receiver +sling adapter.

As for personal attacks , the idea of everybody making comments about anything I post and then adding their two cents is childish and it smacks of flaming. You personally might not of made a out right attack ,but you did nothing to discourage others from piling up on me. This is a mob mentality that exists on this forum that needs to be nipped in the bud. It sets a poor example for new members as well as older subs like yourself. If I have to worry about being bullied when I post , then this becomes a very hostile place to visit, and the exchange of ideas and useful information is stopped for fear of attacks and ridicule. For example I refer you to Dbstalk website and James Long as the biggest cyber bully there ever was. He is the reason I no longer post there due to his constant pms and public attacks on anything said that is the slightest bit critical of DISH . This is supposed to be the "friendly discussion forum " as the header on the home page says. Ya'll are hardly being friendly and I dare say down right hostile to me. I don't attack ya'll and I don't dismiss your comments as " out of date".

As for contributing to this forum I will continue to do so where and when I feel I need to or want to. You don't have to own a 922 to be part of the conversation. If that was the case you would be a very small minority of subs that would be talking to each other. I say for a final time and please take it to heart: IF you don't want to read my comments , PLease Don't and please add me to your ignore list. Life is to short for this crap.

This was my experience as well with the 4 recordings at a time. I added distant networks from L.A. when I had the 922 so I never had to record more than two or three things at a time. That way I didn't miss any of my shows. A few others on this board are saying that this problem was fixed. But you are still experiencing this problem?

Yes, but it's only happened a couple times in the last two months. Then again, I haven't recorded as much OTA during that time period.

I am a power user with 2 ota and 2 sat at a time recording during prime time just about 3 or 4 times a week. I noticed it when I had the 922 , it sometimes would miss a sat program and other times it was an ota program. No real rhyme or reason to it. The 722k still has a bug where the show will start and you will get to a point and it will freeze and then go to the end. I guess what ever receiver you get there will be bugs to deal with. The more shows you record at a time the more you will see it.

Okay, Lakebum. That is all you got out of my previous post? I obviously over estimated your comprehension of what I was trying to post. It is very exhausting trying to communicate with someone, when they only focus on one thing and exclude everything else I was trying to convey. It might not be your job to stand up for someone , but I would like to think that if you saw someone being jumped on , you would do the right thing and stand up for them. I know I stand up and do the right thing every day at work, at the prison as a correctional officer and have had to do this for going on 18 years next summer.
MikeD-C05

Well maybe I bought a bad 922, when I had it . It never reliably recorded 4 shows at a time and it never did sling in hd like my 722k does now with the sling adapter. But it looks like I wasn't the only one ,according to the other poster I responded to.

That is all I felt like I needed to respond to. I didn't know you expected a response to everything. I'm done discussing this. We know you don't like the 922, but otherwise like Dish. End of story, no need to repeat.

That explains a lot. :D

I started reading this thread when I saw on the front page that 922's would be available for Dish n' it up.

I was wondering why I'd want a 922 and was going to post my own thread then I found this one.

This thread was very informative and definitely entertaining...

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

Prime seems to have a problem passing the DV/HDR metadata to Roku and Apple devices, but no problem with their Fire devices.

Had a customer come in a couple weeks ago to pay her internet bill. She let me know in no uncertain terms that she did NOT appreciate me running the same ads over and over. I looked at her and waited for her to laugh and say she was just joking.......still waiting for that laugh.

There is one there too. I would think either is justifiable as they make both the device and provide a streaming program service.

I agree to a point. The transfer policy is creating parity, but only for the top 20-25 teams. The other 110+ teams in the FBS are just breeding grounds for the bigger schools which have more money and more recruiting appeal.

If a smaller school recruits, trains, and matures a quality player, they can't keep them past their sophomore year because the bigger schools snatch them up. Example: LSU didn't cultivate Sam Leavitt, they just harvested him from other schools. LSU is a top contender, in large part because of Leavitt. Michigan State and Arizona State.................are not. If either of those schools had been able to retain his services, who knows where they would be now.
T
A lot of upsets yesterday, but my LSU Tigers won.
Coach says afternoon game result of SEC "conspiracy". The rivalry game vs. Ala. will kick off in the afternoon at Baton Rouge rather than at night, which head coach Lane Kiffin says is intentional in order to neutralize fan craziness and noise, which is believed to help lead to wins for squads playing at home. "Obviously the SEC wanted to change this year from how it had been to give LSU less advantage, (considering) how well LSU plays at night and how intimidating it is to play here. So I guess when I look at it that way, I'm not surprised."

But he's come up with an ingenious solution. "Go to bed earlier Fri. night, then start your day earlier. Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier. Whatever your routine is, just move it up."

Meantime ads have been running for a "Protect College Sports Act" moving through Congress.

Optimum, which bought up our previous cable company, Suddenlink (originally COX), replac ed all of their coax disdribution with Fiber several years ago. They ran new fiber links to the house, but installed RFOG (RF over glass) devices on the outside of the house, which makes the house coax system look like a cable system. They used DOCSIS modems and of course we had the same assymetric bandwidth of cable internet. When I called them a couple years ago, and said I had installed a connection to the local Fiber provideer, MetroNet, They panicked and offered me the 300 MBit "Fiber powered" cable service for $20 per month. They were bleeding customers. I cancelled my Metronet and went with the $20 deal for a year, even though I didn't like the old cable technology.

Then T-moble Fiber struck a deal with Metronet Fiber where T-mobile would take over the marketing, billing and customer relations for residential Customers. They offered a "Founders Deal" for 2 Gigabit service, symmetric speeds, for $70 per month for new customers. That included all taxes and fees and was guaranteed for 10 years. I couldn't resist. That deal is no longer offered, but I am set for 9 more years.

Now the successor to the old local telephone company, Brightspeed has also installed a modern Fiber system in the neighborhood, but won't be getting my business. But their Fiber technology is also superior to Optimums cable based system.

With Fiber competition, the cable companies are eventually doomed.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

After a strange reboot last night in the middle of viewing, this morning several more reboots and about a half an hour download.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

brittanygarden and Rick Durham

jsmit86 and naptime - If you are able to use H715, does the issue mentioned below still exist?

Often people who have organic vision or hearing activated as adults after never having had it cannot practically utilize it because their brains never developed the massive neural network needed to make sense of any of it.

Well, he sees in color, just differently. Can't he just enjoy that? My granny had anachromatic color blindness, meaning pretty much like a b&w tv
