Its actually $17 for a dual tuner DVR.

I agree with what you said too. My dad has one of those dual tuner DVR's and while right now in the winter it works great this past summer/fall he hated it. The 2nd tuner goes to the back "party" garage. During the summer/fall he'll sit out there and watch TV. If he wants to record something he either has to watch it or record to tuner 1 which disables the ability for his girlfriend to watch something else. Now with it winter its in "single mode" which basically makes it work like a D* DVR.

The record listing looks cluttered too if you do series recording. With the D* DVR's if you record a show and say "1st run only" and its a rerun, nothing happens. Not in the list or anything. On that E* dual tuner unless you set it up to hide them they will show ALL recordings for a show and if a rerun there is a line through it. Looks confusing as hell to see 5 items on a Monday and 3 have a line through them.

It also reminds me of some folks who use the "well on a E* 722 or 622 you can record 4 items with an OTA tuner attached" as to why they feel the E* receivers are better. While that might be an advantage for some not everyone has OTA setup....or even better they do but OTA is spotty so they use the sat tuners anyways which makes the point moot. While I would love the D* DVR's to add a tuner if you use OTA I can count the times on one hand that I really wish I had this option. But I guess thats where the 2nd DVR can come into play :)

I really didn't have much problem with the dual tuners from Dish. The lack of dual HD was an issue for me (and Dish still doesn't really have a dual tuner HD unit unless you count the 922 using Sling) and the recording could be a problem with multiple shows recording and trying to watch live TV but there are similar types of idiosyncrasies with the H24/HR24 MRV systems such as the inability to schedule/change recording from a different DVR.

Overall, I like DirecTV's MRV system MUCH better than Dish's dual tuner receivers.

My dad had a E* 522. Once in a while, tv2 would change channels by itself, some times to a channel he did not subscribe to. He called E*, they sent a new 522, tv2 would still change. He ordered a remote, still tv2 change. A tech was sent out, he did not find a problem. I went over to my dads house to see if I could figure out what was the problem, and I figured it out. The guy across the street had E* and his tv2 uhf remote signal would sometimes reach my dads 522. I relocated the 522 away from the window, but the 522 would occationally change cause of the guy. It was only after I posted what had happed that I was told the E* remotes and receivers could be addressed so a second remote would not interfear. By that time it was too late cause the guy across the street had been arrested by the DEA for manufacturing drugs.

That's right, it's $15 for the regular 222 without the DVR.

I agree with what you said too. My dad has one of those dual tuner DVR's and while right now in the winter it works great this past summer/fall he hated it. Yeah single mode is really the only way the DVRs work worth a damn. If they are running 2 TV's, there should be 3 tuners. I think the ONLY good point they have is that you get DVR functions (live pause/RW/FF) on the TV2. Even though the 222's don't have that issue, you still don't get HD on TV2 and you're still paying double. Unless they find a way to stick an ATSC modulator in there, there will never be a 'boxless' solution to that problem. It'll have to be like the way D* is doing the HR30 - either a networkable TV or slave boxes at the remote TV's.

The record listing looks cluttered too if you do series recording. With the D* DVR's if you record a show and say "1st run only" and its a rerun, nothing happens. Not in the list or anything. Yeah I really don't know what they're thinking when they do some of that stuff.. We really don't care what it's NOT recording, as long as it's recording what it's supposed to! I guess now that I think about it, it COULD be so that you can see skipped things and adjust priority if you want?

It also reminds me of some folks who use the "well on a E* 722 or 622 you can record 4 items with an OTA tuner attached" as to why they feel the E* receivers are better. While that might be an advantage for some not everyone has OTA setup....or even better they do but OTA is spotty so they use the sat tuners anyways which makes the point moot. I'm with ya there too.. In rural Kansas, reliable OTA (especially with digital) is nearly impossible without a giant antenna on a 100' tower (and it has to have a rotator, because they're not in the same general direction). I'd love to get some of the subchannels, but they just aren't in the air for me to grab, so I have to use the locals on sat. And TBH, there is only one show on network that I DVR. Everything else is on 'cable', so it wouldn't even help as far as conflicts go. The second DVR does help there. It would be really nice if the 'conflict management' system would make use of multiple DVR's on the network, rather than bumping recordings by the priority list.

Just a side note ,

Philips did make dual tuner dual tv box for DTV. it would be the equal to the DN 322 receiver worked just like Dish's model people hated it and it was not a big seller so it was never to be seen of again .

Picked up a sweet directv dish, mount, twin lnbs and a short cable.
Has anyone converted one to FTA? A Frankenstein of sorts...

would probably also work well for NHK on 101W and possibly for PBS on 99W. I used one for a while on 30W. Just keep in mind that because it's undersized for those satellites, it might work fine in clear weather but won't have much margin to account for signal degradation during rain/snow

If you can find one, the Shaw / Star Choice 75e ellipticals are great for use on 97, 99, and 101W. They are really just rebranded ChannelMaster 75 cm reflectors and use linear LNBFs by default out of the box.

Everyone else's mileage may vary.

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!
Thanks to all for your interest and replies...

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit :) )

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
