Dish Hints at Streaming Option

Trefis from thestreet.com states,

NEW YORK (Trefis) -- Dish Network(DISH _) has been on a spree to buy distressed assets and acquire spectrum on what it perceives as cheap prices.
There has been speculation as to whether the company will use this spectrum to enter mobile data/voice market. Dish hasn't officially disclosed its intentions until recently when it stated in a filing with the FCC that AT&T(T _) and T-Mobile's deal could harm competition and potentially discourage Dish Network from entering the mobile broadband market.
Clearly the idea is to diversify its risk and position itself better against mounting competition from telecom and cable providers as well as its long-standing rival DirecTV (DTV _).

Not only does the competition pose a threat to Dish's presence in the pay-TV market, increasing Internet usage puts it at a disadvantage against cable companies.
What if the video viewing shifts drastically to Internet? Comcast(CMCSA _) will still be able to compete in TV but Dish would be vulnerable.
By picking up cheap spectrum, Dish is exploring options so that it can adapt to the online shift as this blossoms. In other words, it would like to straddle the fence by hanging on to its traditional business while providing a streaming option to consumers as preferences shift.
Our price estimate for Dish Network stands at $31.50, roughly in line with the market price.

I said it before but will say it again...

I do believe DISH will offer some kind of streaming in the future... you should see the data center they are building currently. Its HUGE!

Speaking of Dish's streaming option, has anyone else noticed that when using the Disney app (More Video Services) on the Hopper or Wally to watch a show (such as Cloak and Dagger from Freeform) and they insert an ad for a pay-per-view movie, it is a Sling Television ad, not a Dish ad? That seems odd, since I am watching the show on a Dish receiver.

7 year old thread, talking about 10 years into the future. Close enough. We have HEVC now. Not sure we will have such advances in the future.

When they picked up the frequencies, they made a presentation of one option using a one to many broadcast system.

Transmit a streaming package that many receive. Think of it as a mini TV transmitter.with no data caps.

$6.3 billion in crypto stolen by hackers

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

The company later added it began recovering assets impacted by the breach after pledging to cover losses using its Secure Asset Fund for Users.

The "Secure Asset Fund" had about $1 billion in reserves... in Bitcoin.

The fund started in 2018, so it may take a while to make investors whole, much less replenish the fund.

That's kinda what I was seeing but all the news reports are suggesting that all investors will be made whole immediately.
The other thing they weren't clear about was the BTC that was "locked out" of the system. I guess that means that the stolen BTC is basically worthless now because I don't see how it could be replaced....but there is a LOT about the crypto world that leaves me scratching my head.

USA Healthcare Costs are Ridiculous

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

You have to find my account in the settings. Only works if you're connected to internet.

It is really really simple install (no special tools or instruments required and they guide you through using their starlink app and a simple set of instructions.

You can order direct from starlink online or from an authorized retailer.

Not at all like the special equipment needed for a satellite install.

Yes, I fully agree. I can install it with my teeth, and both hands tied behind my back...but this installation is for a commercial user that will not do it themselves, and myself, Im overseas...

But it looks like that we managed to find someone who can drive there for the work.

New report states 29% of vehicles being traded in are under water

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. :eek

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

I'm pretty sure the most you can get is seven.

What America can't afford is the payments on $80,000+ pickups and SUVs and $40,000+ crossovers.

Believe it or not, 8 yrs...96 mon is starting to become common.

What I can't believe is the interest rates they are charging now. I've got a high credit score and when recently at a Ford dealership I inquired about what the rates were for new vehicles and he said 6.9%. Yikes.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

I'm curious how they are going to implement Tony into Origins (If they do) ...
Tony was introduced to Gibbs and the team, on NCIS, which makes it the Mothership side of things, he worked in Baltimore prior to NCIS, NO mention when they met that anyone had known one another ...
