ESPN's Top Ten Sports Rivalries

On tonight's Sportscenter, ESPN's "Top 10" was the biggest ever rivalries in sports .

Obviously, this is a VERY subjective list, but I found it interesting that three Boston teams were involved (I'm personally glad that Bruins-Habs got the recognition it truly deserves).

1. Red Sox-Yankees
2. Duke-UNC (college basketball)
3. Army-Navy (collge football)
4. Lakers-Celtics
5. Bears-Packers
6. Ohio St-Michigan (college football)
7. Barcelona- Real Madrid
8. Harvard-Yale (college football)
9. UConn-Tennessee (women's college basketball)
10. Bruins-Canadiens

Off the top of my head, Cowboys-Redskins and Auburn-Alabama are the biggest omissions on this list. What's your opinion?

Lol, northern rivalries......the definition of "hit and giggle" rivalries.

I will say that without a doubt, the Iron Bowl is a fierce of a rivalry as there is in ANY sport. Whether that is a good or bad thing is open to discussion. lol

Agreed on the iron bowl, but since you're touting the SEC nonsense again, where is the other big one? The Egg Bowl? Meh. The Cocktail party? More famous for its activities

SEC teams seem to get up more for their ACC counterparts, strangely (Georgia - G Tech, Clemson - South Carolina, UF - FSU).

The Egg Bowl is pretty fierce as well, it usually means far less to the outside world, but there is no love lost between the two.
The "Saban Bowl" has gained some added fuel as of late, but Bama/LSU has always been a big one for both teams.
The "Third Saturday in October" is arguably as big as the Iron Bowl to some fans o Bama and Tennesse. I am biased here being a Bama fan, but i would say that this is the second fiercest rivalry in the SEC. After the whole Fulmer connection to us going on probation it got ugly.
Auburn/Georgia, AKA "the Deep Souths Oldest Rivalry".

All huge games.

The in-state rivalries tend to be the biggest, especially when they're in the same conference, which is why the Iron Bowl has remained so huge.

The GT-UGA rivalry lost something when the Jackets left the SEC, as the game no longer has bearing on conference position. Back in the day though, my dad said it was huge. Tech had a huge one with 'bama as well (we're still in their fight song), but a lot of that was the personal rivalry between long time coaches Bobby Dodd and Bear Bryant.

Auburn's still a big one for UGA and GT, as they're right on the State line. Auburn would still probably be considered the Dawgs biggest rival. If the Chickens wouldn't be scared to play Tech then they'd be a big rival for them still.

The cocktail party though has never been a big one (more of an excuse to go party in JAX than really see a game). Before the Evil Genius, Florida was on the level of UKY, and the Dawgs regulary spanked them. After the Evil Genius showed up though, the tables turned, and the Dawgs have been puppies in the game.

The Pitt-Penn state game was big until Penn state decided they would rather play temple and be guaranteed a win instead. The Pitt-WVA game, the back yard brawl, is big but nothing like how Pitt-Penn state was.

Pitt-WVU in a nutshell:

Pennsylvania has a "tiered" system of higher education. The best students get into Pitt (and Penn State and Temple). Others are assigned to its state colleges. The state also focuses much of its finances on the student, in the form of aid they can use at any college, even private or out-of-state, rather than on the college, keeping in-state tuition low, as most states do.

West Virginia for complex historical reasons mis-placed WVU right on the Pennsylvania state line, far from the vast majority of the state's population. To keep the school full, it subsidizes it to a huge degree, such that out-of-state tuition is actually less than in-state tuition for most northeasterners, including Pennsylvanians. It also has, as do all colleges in the state, a virtural open admission system, anybody that has any business in college can attend.

So, faced with the "thin envelope" from Pitt, many western Pennsylvanians choose to forgo places like Slippery Rock for a lower total cost and a "big time school" experience at WVU. Such that 68% of on-campus students at WVU are from out of state, the majority from western Pennsylvania. The fandoms hate of Pitt is born of pure jealosy. The hate that can only be born of applying to a school and being turned down.

Am I the only one that hates what Dish did to their mobile app?

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I think most are using it on a firestick or other device as an extra receiver, rather than their phone. Just a guess based on how I use it. 99% thru my firestick, 1% phone.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.

would probably also work well for NHK on 101W and possibly for PBS on 99W. I used one for a while on 30W. Just keep in mind that because it's undersized for those satellites, it might work fine in clear weather but won't have much margin to account for signal degradation during rain/snow

If you can find one, the Shaw / Star Choice 75e ellipticals are great for use on 97, 99, and 101W. They are really just rebranded ChannelMaster 75 cm reflectors and use linear LNBFs by default out of the box.

Everyone else's mileage may vary.

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.
