Dish channel line up vs AT&T U-Verse channel line up

I am contemplating leaving Dish after 11 years and moving to another service.

Is there a website that I can go to that has a comparison of what all the TV services have over the other?

Thanks for all the updates and info, for those of us (or at least just me), that was looking for a recent, unbiased, account of the quality and functionality comparison. P.S. I say unbiased because, while you had and liked Dish, you were looking forward to the possibilities of the U-Verse. Thanks again!

I called a 800 number that the sales rep left me in case anything happened before the install. The number he left was for the UPS Store. The other number he labeled "direct support." Level 2 support explained that they were having an issue with my current DSL service. He asked me what company I had service with. I replied AT&T. He seemed confused at my answer. He said that they couldn't install U-verse until I cancelled my current DSL service. I said why can't THEY do that since it is through AT&T. After having said that I immediately thought he would answer with: "that's another department" Lo and behold he said, "I know that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but that is another department."

After some conversation that I don't feel the need to repeat here, I asked to be transferred to someone else who could cancel my order.

Here comes a retention specialist. After some conversation with this rep I find out that my AT&T DSL service was not through AT&T but through another company but billed through AT&T. Man, say all that 5 times as fast as you can.

The rep pleaded with me to hang on as he investigated the issue further and he or another rep would call me back.

Sounds like att. I have em for my DSL but if I had another option I'd dump em as fast as I can. But their internet competitors prices are highway robbery. Att doesn't know their heads from a whole in the ground. Its amazing they remain in business.

May 3, 2012...

Dish installer came by about 8:45 and about 2 hours later, I was up and running with a 1 Hopper/2 Joey setup. Installer was very impressed with my knowledge of how everything was going to work. Of course I mentioned Satellite Guys as my main resource. He said he knew all about Satellite Guys!

I made the switch from Dish to UVerse TV and Phone. Already had UVerse internet for 3 years. Got a great deal for 1st year with the new UVerse service. After that my bundled service will be about $40 per month less than I have been paying for the Dish service with a few more channels plus Starz, Showtime, and The Movie Channel. I am about 2200 feet from the box and have 3 HD streams. My observations after 6 days: The HD quality is about the same. I have not seen any macro-blocking. The SD picture quality is better with UVerse. I have 25 Mips total bandwith. Each HD feed appears to take almost 6 Mips of bandwidth with the SD feeds taking about 1.5 mips. When recording 3 HD channels last night, my download speed decreased from about 18.5 mips to about 8.5 mips. The DVR has a 320 MB hard drive. The response of the DVR (similiar to the Hopper) and receivers (similiar to the Joeys) is quick. UVerse has all of the Atlanta HD locals in HD while Dish does not even have the local CW station in HD and has dropped WPCH that carries about 20% of the Atlanta Braves.

If I had staryed with Dish, I would have probably changed to a 2 Hopper, 3 Joey system that would have been better than the 1 DVR, 4 additional receiver system that I have with UVerse, but with a substantial upfront cost and a continuing additional cost of about $55 per month higher without rebates. The problem that I have with Dish is a substantial increase in hardwire fees the last few years. I had 1 owned 722, 1 leased 622, and 1 leased 722 and the increase in hardware fees has been very substantial.

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

USA Healthcare Costs are Ridiculous

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

admin can close or delete it if they don't want here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

Dish Hopper and Dish Hopper Plus No Alexa in settings

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.
